How should I prepare the leaves before using?

Wash in tap water first, boil for 10 minutes using fresh or bottled water, you can also soak for 30 minutes or more in bottled water. Ensure the leaves are properly cooled before introducing them into your aquarium.

Do Catappa leaves change the water color?

Yes, they do. The leaves release tannins, which can cause the water to turn slightly brownish or yellowish. This is entirely normal and safe for the fish. In fact, many fish species, like bettas, enjoy and thrive in this good, tinted environment.

How long do Catappa leaves last in the aquarium?

The leaves will gradually break down over time as they release their beneficial compounds. They can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Once they have disintegrated, you can replace them with fresh leaves.

Are these leaves only for Shrimps?

No, even snails and fish love Catappa leaves.

Can these leaves be used with other aquarium additives like medications or fertilizers?

It is best to avoid using medications or other additives simultaneously or take off the leaves temporarily during any treatment. Tannins and other substances released by the leaves might interfere with the effectiveness of certain medications.
