". . .and the greatest of these is LOVE."
if you are gay, if someone you love is gay, if someone in your family is gay and you have abandonded them for "religious" reasons, please, please, please watch this film! start with the three interviews with the director, and the two leads. i know this shall seem overwrought, but this film has the power to change, to move, to enlighten, to heal if one lets it do so. this film is about LOVE (as so few gay flicks are, unfortunately); it looks at love from a very distinct perspective -- one which few people want to acknowledge. there are many gay, young people who are "invisible" and need to be seen, accepted, and loved (when you see the film, you'll understand this). your two hours spent with this film shall be worthwhile, trust me.

For Anyone From Ex-Gay Ministries
This is a great movie for anyone who has come "out" of the Ex-Gay ministries, as I have. The movie does not make the people in these ministries seem like bad people...only the people that most really are in real life: folks wanting to do what they understand the Bible to teach. They just want to help others and be good Christians. And those gays who join these minitries also just want to be good men and good Christians. They want to do what is right. But often in the process they find that they seem to be fighting themselves in the battle--and from what I've read in Sylvia Penningtons book, "Ex Gay's: There Are None", the reality is that many young men have committed suicide over this inner struggle with themselves.I've tried it both ways, and acceptance of my gay side brought me peace. But this is a movie....and the guy does not always find the guy in the end and ride off into the sunset together. (It's the same story with straight people...or they get someone less than who they deserved.) This life is rarely perfect...which is why we needed a Savior in the first place--to save us from it and from ourselves.I highly recommend this movie. I recommend the Ex-Gay person to accept themselves as a Christian who just happens to be gay, while not abandoning their deep faith in God. At least that's been my understanding for the past 25 years of my own acceptance. Nobody in this life is perfect. Do not strive for perfection....strive for Him. To know Him is to know Love and to never truly feel alone in this life.

Chad Allen and the rest of the cast do a great job!
Excellent film with a superb cast. I found the story interesting and the internal battles the characters deal with very real.

IMPORTANT and sadly real.
this film is important.the idea of "Ex-Gay" is sadly still alive and well. This film also contains information for those struggling with their sexual identity to get support.

Not that we gay people need saving anymore than any ...
Not that we gay people need saving anymore than any other sinner. Look only to Jesus Christ, not any preacher, church or denomination.

Awesome Movie
Chad Allen is an awesome actor, but the whole cast here is so real in their roles. It is a must see for those who have suffered through pray away the gay.

Save Me
This is an excellent movie. Very good acting by all the leads. I especially liked Judith Light's character, who was very adamant about her anti-gay beliefs, but was still portrayed as a simpathetic character. This movie was about gray areas and was very well done.

interesting drama as observed from the sidelines ...
sorry if the title's a little cryptic ... it's just as a UK reviewer I feel somewhat detached from what's clearly a big issues in the US. I find it ironic that a country which was founded on principles of freedom for everyone to follow their own religious beliefs remains one of the most bigoted and screwed-up of the western countries over the "gay vs the bible" issue. Oh well about the film ...Other reviewers have given very complete description of the plot ... so I'll just comment on my feelings/reactions to it as a piece of entertainment...On the whole I enjoyed it. Not totally convinced by either Chad Allen or Robert Gant's performances (aside from acting ability aren't they both just a bit too old for the characters they were portraying?). However, Judith Light was amazing! Some reviewer (maybe on US site) complained she was playing herself again ... but I've never seen her in anything before and I thought she was brilliant - she made the film for me. In a totally believable way she captured the brittleness, kindness, control freak, out of control, vulnerable, domineering complexities & contrasts of this fascinating character - and she did it all without appearing to "act". Worth the purchase price.

I Hated It
I found Save Me to be extremely offensive. I think J Komer's review captures the film very well, but is far too kind to it. The review by Joe and Dave contains exactly the kind of language I was afraid I would find in reviews of this film: "This is a brave movie." "The writers refuse to vilify those wishing to cure people of their gayness." The movie is not brave, it buys right into the ex-gay movement's rationale. Why shouldn't we vilify people who think we are sinful and sick for something that goes to the core of our being, and want to cure us of being gay? This desire to do so ends up in drug treatment, lobotomies, imprisonment and death for gays. Geez, don't you read the papers and watch TV? These people SHOULD be vilified, and their movement exposed as profound evil. Why are Chad Allen and RobertGant even in this movie?--as an attempt to convert ex-gay movements from oppressing us? Get real. Get up off the floor, Chad and Robert. Don't be wimpy victims. Check out Chad Allen's "Shock to the System" and Queer as Folk (US version, Season 1, Episodes 12 to 14) to see how the ex-gay matter should be treated. If you are a right-wing crazy or an internalized-homophobic self-loathing gay, you will like this film and call it brave. If you are like the rest of us gays, you will be appalled.
