The guide for this said to use a larger hole drill bit, but I used a 1” bit and this slid in perfectly. If you use the larger bit they say to, it will fit loosely and you will have to position it just right or you’ll get leaks. I used this on the side of a plastic storage container; think Sterlite or Rubbermaid, those rectangular storage bins you find everywhere at department stores. Don’t over tighten this thing either; the rubber-like piece that threads on the back that acts as the “nut” on the inside of your water container is not rigid, it is a soft rubbery plastic; if you over tighten it, you will “jump” the threads and possibly damage the grooves. I didn’t experience this but I could feel that even just hand tightening it more, I could have easily torqued this thing down to where it would have jumped the threads. Just hand tighten, test for leaks, adjust if needed.

I have purchased five or six of these for all of my rainbarrels that have fixed tops. Had some doubts at first: read unflattering reviews here and they do feel kind of cheap, but I have never had a leak. For my larger barrels, 55-gallons, I took the precaution of inserting the seal partway, circling it with a heavy dose of silicon glue, pushing the seal the rest of the way in, then screwing in the faucet a few hours later. For the smaller barrels I don't bother with the glue and have zero problems. In fact, when one of the smaller barrels, which was full to the brim with rainwater, fell out of the trailer and the faucet was forcefully pushed out, I checked the hole I had drilled, checked the seal, everything looked okay so I cleaned up the area, re-inserted the seal and screwed in the faucet, and they are still working fine.

I manage a community garden and these barrel spouts are a great addition. We use rain barrels as “water towers” and had difficulty finding and fitting spouts to barrels. Most products require you to get inside the barrel and are next to impossible to install into the 55 gallon barrel we require. These are super easy to install and they are a terrific price. My only complaint is that some develop a leak over time. Otherwise this is a excellent product!

So far so good, I bought these for white vinegar barrels I’m using for water barrels. These spigots are perfect, no need to cut the top of barrel to insert. Cut your hole close to bottom of barrel and follow directions, 3 seconds. I have 4 barrels and they all work perfectly. Cleaning them was the hardest part but that’s another story

I didn't have a 1 1/4 inch hole saw bit so I used a 1 inch then used a Dremel to widen the hole out carefully to the proper size. Once fitted into the barrel, I filled it full of water. After bouncing around in the back of my truck on dirt roads no leaks and firmly seated in the barrel. UPDATE: Barrel was full and I accidentally kicked the spigot with my foot and it popped off. While water was coming out I screwed it back in, no problem. So this is exactly what you want to happen, instead of it breaking in half or damaging your water barrel, it goes back in and works fine.

I have a 1-1/4" hole saw which made the installation quick and easy in a High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) 50 gal drum used as a garden water barrel. The valve/spigot is all plastic so don't plan on hanging anything heavy from it. It helps to lube the outside of the inside-threaded grommet with a bit of soap before forcing it into the hole, as it's a rather tight fit. Shipped without instructions but none are really needed; just remember to separate the spigot from the grommet before installing the latter.

This is the only such spigot I found that can be installed from the outside. Others require you to drop in a fitting and somehow find it, and pull it through the hole. Totally impossible! This one is very easy, and generally does the job. There are two problems. First, it is subject to a lot of water pressure which sometimes pops the spigot out of the hole. I can find no solution to that. Secondly, there seems to be no way to filter out sediment, which often blocks the flow. Still, it works, is easy and I'm buying a second, hoping a new one will stay put.

This worked perfect for my rain barrel. Water flow is very good. The knob is an on/off vs. screw type and I like that feature. Only had it for a week but so far it’s perfect!
