Bar Harbor New England Style Clam Chowder, Condensed, 14.5 oz – Classic Creamy Chowder

This was absolutely delicious. But you need to prepare it properly to make it perfect restaurant quality. This starts as a base. I warmed it up and added a 1/3 of a can of heavy cream and 1/3 of a can of milk. I also added salt, pepper, paprika and chili powder to taste. I also diced up a golden potato and boiled them to make them soft, then drained and added the diced potato to the chowder. Finally, I bought a can of chopped clams (same brand as this) and added those. You can slice the clams before adding as you like. I let this simmer for a while and had it with sourdough bread. Absolute perfection! Same quality as a high end seafood restaurant. You can also add bacon, chives of whatever you like. Depending on whether your serving this as a starter or as a main course, this feeds 2-4 people. Definitely will be making this again, but I'm also going to add some rosemary and thyme. I'll update once I make again with those extra ingredients.

This is a great tasting product, and I will continue to buy it. However, you will taste salt all day long after eating it.

I must start by saying I've never had a can soup that I truly enjoyed. For me it's always to salty and gives off a tin taste or is just gross. But This one doesn't! Compared to others it's not nearly as salty although still to much for my taste but it's acceptable for a canned chowder. I noticed other reviews saying it's tasteless but I disagree, I do think it should contain more actual clams, I had maybe 4 extremely small pieces. if I were to have this again then I would have to add clams. I won't buy again because it's just not for me but I will say it's definitely much better than others I've tried.

Somehow, we thought this clam chowder represented Bar Harbor on the east coast and thought well it must be good. VERY disappointed! It was more watery than creamy and had very few chewable ingredients like potatoes, carrots, or clams. The clincher that got us to try it was there is no bacon in it and that's hard to find for some reason. We have found delicious canned clam chowder that is bacon free but this one will definitely not be purchased again.

For reference, let me start by saying Red Lobster Clam Chowder may be the best clam chowder going. Its thick, rich, full of potatoes, clams and flavor. For canned soup at home, Capt Marriner's was right up there, maybe even better than RL Since the Capt is now out of business, focusing on vegan dishes, probably the next generation, in any event, I am looking for a substitute and bought a few different brands available on Amazon, I tried this one first. If RLs is a 9.5 (no one gets a 10), this is a 2. Even with a half of can of light cream, its extremely watery and bland, I couldn't even finish it. The 1 star is for the large clam pieces, not that there were very many of them and because I cannot give 0 stars. This is mostly broth with little flavor. Sorry bar harbor, not even close. The search continues.

Excellent tasting soup! Could use more clams but it still tastes delicious!

This is the next best thing to making it yourself. It requires only a little milk to bring it to a familiar consistency, so get twice as many cans as you think you'll need (if buying the concentrated version).

Didn't buy it for myself but my dad raves about New England Clam Chowder when he visits a market in Boston and apparently this is the closest you can get in cans. Pricey though.
