Works Great For Most People Including Me...
I purchased this remote to replace my father's aging remote. His old remote was the RF version, but since he didn't really need the RF anyway, I just changed the receiver over to Infrared under the settings menu. For the price of this remote, it is a great deal considering you can also control your tv and two other devices. I guess in earlier listings this device was mislabeled as RF capable which it is not. However I think many people don't actually need the RF. If your receiver isn't hidden from view and you don't need to control a receiver in a different room, this remote should work for you. Programming the remote takes only a few minutes, and Google is your friend here. Just write down your receiver model number (found on a sticker on the bottom usually) and use it as a reference when searching. If your current remote is RF and your receiver is set to RF only, you need to change it under the menu > setup > remote control option to use IR for this remote to work properly. I am very happy with the remote and the price was awesome.

I should have ordered this a long time ago!
My old remote just wasn't functioning smoothly anymore. The select button required mashing that no number of cleanings could remedy for a decent period of time. I took a gamble on this remote seeing as it was so $ cheap. I can't tell if it really is an RC64 because the model label was sanded/buffed off, but that doesn't bother me. What matters is IT WORKS! It even came pre-programmed. Not just for the DirecTV receiver, but my TV as well! That was a very pleasant surprise. None of the buttons are worn to the point where they aren't legible. In fact, they don't look worn at all. Maybe the underscore next to the 0 is, but I might just be imagining/seeing things. That is how clean and new it looks.

Bought 2, had to return 1
I bought two direct tv remotes from them. They did not come with any batteries. I put in batteries and the first one worked like a charm, no programming what so ever. When i put the batterys in the second one, it did not work what so ever. The lights didnt turn on or anything.I then contacted etcomm and with no questions asked they sent me another one, and recieved it the next few days. As of now they all work like a charm and was an unbeatable price!

Great replacement!
Needed to replace my old RC64 which after years of use was intermittant where the buttons would not always make contact. I was getting sore thumb joints from pressing so hard every day as I channel surfed and fast forwarded through DVR recordings.Turns out the RC 64 has been supersceded by the RC65X which was sent to me. It has updated programming to be compatible with newer TVs (not an issue with me) but it is new, works great, and was an excellent purchase compared to paying DirecTV's inflated price for the same replacement.

Same old quirkey designed remote.
It's OK. It replaces the unit I received when I became a Direct TV subscriber nine years ago. The same exact unit as before and I have never been a big fan of the design. The serial number is the same except for one number. The soft buttons are not all that responsive. Sometimes I have to press them repeatedly. Sometimes they do not respond at all. Batteries are fully charged. I never use the DVD/record functions so it is wasted space and extra clutter. Buttons are a bit too small and I do not get a secure feel when pushing them. I suggest a better intuitive/ ergonomically design as an update but given the culture of DIRECT TV this design will be around forever. Fortunately it is not over priced. No recommendation.

Remote Falls Apart After 1 year
Product works great as a DirectTv remote. Universal part is OK for basic parts of DVD player, but doesn't have controls for switching input mode on HDTV.Oct 2013 This remote is refurbished. Within 6 months the rubber on the backside of remote starts peeling away. About at the 1 year point the most use keys (ie fast forward, etc.) stops working effectively....have to really press hard to get the contacts to be made. This is my 2nd remote from this company...1st one did the same. So went to Best Buy and for $12 got a brand new Direct TV remote...expecting to get the 4 or 5 years use that I got with the new remote when signed up with DirectTV.

DirecTV Replacement Remote
I cannot believe the number of people who don't read things before they buy. Of course this remote is not RF. The RF remote is an extra cost item when you buy a DirecTV receiver and YES the receiver is a LEASE item but they give it to you free when you sign up for service so what's the big deal. As to the remote control it works perfect and how can you beat $1.95 plus shipping? You can purchase it for $20 at Wal-Mart or from DirecTV for $15 plus shipping. At $1.95 each I bought two, one for my wife and one for me and they both work perfect. What a deal.

Great remote . Great price !
Looked at Best buy for replacement remotes (needed two ) and they wanted 50 bucks apiece . Checked on Amazon (which is what I should have done in the first place and saved a trip) and found the RC64 for $4.99 each . Two remotes plus shipping was less than half the price of one at Best Buy ! A tip for those ordering replacement remotes . Order the SAME number remote (number top left front ) as your old one and you won't get one like some of the complaints on here .
