Great collection of gesture drawings from Japanese master illustrators
A collection of female figures from Japanese illustrators with very different styles. It is not really a "course" despite the step-by-step instructions provided since these are all so skillfully drawn B&W illustrations that you should not expect to reproduce them by just following the steps. Copying them over and over is the best way to imitate and emulate their style. Good reference for self study for gesture drawing.

Good instruction.
Very instructional book. Wish I knew about a year ago, but glad to have in my collection. Delivery got messed up. Driver delivered to my neighbor instead of my address. However neighbor brought over to me next day.

Didn’t mean to get a book that features women in negligees and little girl dresses.

it is what it is but not what I want
Many people like limited time period sketches. If that is your interest, this is a very good instruction book. A group of Japanese artists exhibit their ability on 5 or 10 minute sketches. Many drawing courses including the ones that I took have you develop this type of sketch to free up your expressive abilities. If that was what I valued then I would give this book five stars. Excellent. However, I never keep such sketches. Nor does the time constraint help you develop skill. Thus, I threw away these types of sketches. I don't value them at all. So I took away a couple of stars.

It sucks!
Too much like gesture drawing. Very little detail. I’m not a fan of gesture drawings or line drawings. Get your pictures from the internet instead.

It's a good book. I wish it had more detailed how to. It is a good book just wish it had more do this then this.

A great reference
This book was a wonderful surprise – great detail, great poses and a lot to gain from studying some excellent sketching. Well worth the money.

It's oversimplified an so rudimentary.
Yes this book is for beginners an it's simplefied to the basics but more the learning rules of drawing shapes an angles. Far to many step by step images of same model then actual explanations or the process .It's a very visual learning medium but limited.in what a student will have actually learned at the end of it .It makes a nice introduction for the young artist curious to see what figure drawing is about. Like a public school level art book that they might use. Do be aware it contains full nudity .

NOT lifelike
i wanted sketches that look real. entire book sketches are just squiggly lines. apparantly its some kind of japanese style, nothing at all real attempts to sketch what actually looks like real people
