HIGHEST QUALITY AND NEW FAVORITE BOARD GAME
When receiving this we had alot of expectations after having read reviews and the price point. But after receiving it, it surpassed them all. The board and the cards are stunning, the board was so sturdy and thick. The cards so detailed and clear/ non blurry. Even the ships exceeded by being so durable and thick, along with the masts. The game is for up to 6 people, you can be allies against other allies or every player for him or herself. The attention to detail on the entire game was clear. From the masts that made ships go faster, cannon that added extra blast points, trading or bribing, conquering islands, a storm system that moves through the board the entire game, or the treasure hunt that you could complete and it would regenerate to a new location, or change the board to make a new map for the next game, trying to conquer an island and the island protecting itself, the entire game was so entertaining. Logical 8 year olds very easily could play after watching a few times or a bit of patience explaining it. Though it is very strategic, so against older players it may be hard to win. Even 5 year olds could be included easily by letting them spin for the storm system and to move the treasure mark. Such a great family game! So easy to play after reading the thorough directions, and enough variety to keep everyone engaged. Honestly, all in all, best game our family has ever purchased and the new favorite.

Great game for family game night.
We have 6 kids, and the oldest 3 (12,10, 9) all play this with my wife and I and it is generally a hit. Key high points: - The materials are generally well made. The ships themselves are well-crafted, solid and have great little details. The cannons and masts are detailed and fit nicely. The rest of it is on the high end of standard for today's games. They are without defects and have held up well to several iterations of the game so far. - The rules are easy to understand and the turns only have a few parts to them. - No one gets 'knocked out' of the game. If you lose your boats and island, you are still involved and can still (theoretically) come back. This is important on family game nights because no kid wants to be out of the game early, especially since this thing can take more than an hour. Drawbacks: - Moving the treasures and almost every turn, and managing the resource bank can both get a little monotonous. - The harder to conquer islands don't provide bonus resources, which is a bummer. - The storm feature, while interesting, could have more impact than just costing a resource. In general, this game is easy enough to learn and fun enough to keep people engaged. Now, I want to respond to a few of the critical reviewers' points. "The game is boring." - So, we have never played it with less than 5 people, and in the larger group, there is only 1 'free' single skull island. This puts people into conflict straight away and spices things up. Yes, you have some turns where you just collect resources, move a few spaces and hand the die off, but I feel like that is a necessary part of any well-structured strategy game. You can't have conflict and intense action on every single turn or there wouldn't be much time for strategy. "Parts of the game are poorly made" - Now, the boats are fantastic. Very high level detail and durability. Not every part of the game is on that level. But we own A LOT of games. The rest of the games, including the board pieces, the cards and even the spinners are as good or better than what you find in most other games. Some games feel like they tried to produce it as cheaply as possible, and that is not the case with Plunder. "The game is repetitive and drags on." - Well, it can, I suppose. But since the finish line has to do with plunder points, if people are working their strategy to get the last couple they need to seal the deal, and others are actively working to block them, there is nothing repetitive about the later turns. It usually turns into a constant back and forth battle with 2-3 players having a serious chance at victory. "The game isn't interesting after the first play. Replayability offers nothing new" - The main parts of the game are the competing strategies. Every game we have played has had the same lineup of 5 people, 3 of them kids. There has been a wide range of flows and rhythms to them. Yeah, the treasure cards don't change. and there are a few features that universally seem to pan out similarly, but most of our plays have had completely different feels to them. It is a favorite of 2 of my 3 kids. All in all, if you are looking for a well made, thoughtful game that can accommodate up to 6 players and features a Catan-like feel with the addition of direct player on player conflict, this is worth a look. Our family loves it and we are very satisfied with our purchase.

Wonderful game!
We bought this for our son for his 16th birthday. Risk is one of his favorite games, and when I saw the videos for this game, it looked very similar. Well, it’s a lot like Risk, and it’s a lot NOT like Risk! This game was so much fun. Set up and learning the rules did take about 45 minutes, so that delayed starting the game a bit. But once we got started, it was fairly quick to learn. It did take us about 2 1/2 hours to play before someone won, so it is a long game. But that said, we were still learning. Game design is absolutely stunning. Whoever came up with this game was brilliant. Not only the game play, but the board, the cards, and the pieces. So much thought was put into the game. And I absolutely love that the ships are nice chunky game pieces that are easy to pick up and move. I dislike tiny pieces that are easily dropped, so big pieces was a nice surprise. The quality of everything was amazing as well. Well worth the price we paid for the game. Plunder very quickly became a family favorite in just one game and my kids are already asking to play it again during our next weekly family game night. I suspect this is one that’s going to be played A LOT. P.S. My nine year old absolutely DOMINATED the game. If he can play it, so can teens and adults.

Fun Game for the beginner or advanced players
The game is amazing, easy to learn yet hard to master. It is a mix of skill, planning and the luck of the dice and cards as you build up your fleets, sail around the map conquering islands, searching for treasure, gathering resources and battling your foes. The ships and pieces are very well made and durable. Each ship starts with 3 life pawns and can be upgraded with 2 masts and 2 cannons. The parts are solid and with not easily bend or break. The spinners, map pieces, and board are the standard, as expected, punched out cardboard. The board pieces are sadly the only pieces that I am concerned with, they interlock like a puzzle and even though they are durable they are sill just cardboard with an image overlayed on them. Meaning eventually I expect the ends to wear, bend, tear or break, my heart is already sad for the day this will occur :( No two games are the same with the myriad of options to choose from. You have a grid of 6 map tiles, each map tile can be used in one of its four directions, plus there is a second side, so each tile an option of 8 different layouts. Meaning you have a total of over 200,000 ways to layout your map. You start off your meager fleet with one ship and one island. You set a course for the randomly plotted 'X's which as ye all know to be treasure! The treasure can be a blessing or a curse but well worth the risk. Slowly you gather enough resources to build up your ship or maybe add a new one to the fleet. Once you feel ready you can set a course for an unclaimed isle and make her yours. Each owned island allots you one new resource card at the start of each round. You can choose to sail with diplomacy or with the Jolly Roger as your guide. You can work out deals and treaties with foes or barrage them with your freshly installed cannons. Sink their vessels as a way to gain "plunder" points, the goal is to be the first to reach a predetermined amount of plunder. The biggest thing I want to really to tell you about is the game makers care for the game, the tray has a location for EVERY single piece. They even take time to give you a page in the rule book about how to store your game properly ensuring the game will last for many sessions to come. THANK YOU Lost Boy Entertainment!

Great, Quality Game with Easy to Learn Gameplay
I stumbled upon this game while looking for board games to help to pass the time and was immediately drawn to the art style of the board and the concept of a pirate-based game. Despite never hearing of it before, it seemed reasonably priced compared to other strategy games, so I figured "why not." After playing this game three times the night it arrived and three more times a day later, I can safely say that this game is absolutely worth it and a blast to play, especially 1v1. The goal of the game is relatively simple - acquire enough "Plunder Points" to become the greatest pirate before your opponent manages the same. These points are earned through purchasing them outright with Gold resources, building ships, conquering islands, finding buried treasure, and sinking your rivals' ships as you compete with one another. The art on the board pieces and resource cards is beautiful and very stylistic, with both being well made and durable. The rules are not too complicated and easy to pick up - we only had to reference the rules once during gameplay after reviewing them before the first playthrough. The included reference cards provide a quick, easy way of managing what you can purchase with your accumulated resources such as ship upgrades - masts and cannons for more maneuverability and attack power - extra lives, additional ships, or Plunder Points. The game pieces are hardy, and all of the extra pieces fit perfectly into their designated slot. Additionally, the map tiles are reversible with alternative layouts so that you can generate a different play area for each game to allow for a different experience each time. While the objective is to gain the 10 Plunder Points, players can choose various methods to attain this goal, meaning that no two playthroughs will end up the same. In the first run, I focused on combat by sinking my opponent's ship early and finding treasure spots to chase the win. During the next game, my opponent concentrated on taking over as many islands as they could to generate more resource cards for upgrades and direct purchases of Plunder Points to secure victory. Finding treasure can result in a boon of wealth and resources, or offer less beneficial effects such as gaining gold at the loss of wood, or force swapping cards with another player. The continually moving and random path of the Storm can also help or hinder, as you can try to force your opponent into the area or become stuck yourself. Similarly, moving treasure spots ensure that everyone has a chance at finding loot, though some players may end up lucky enough to wind up with multiple treasure spots in their immediate path. Not always hostile, player interaction can also be inspired by offering bribes to avoid being attacked, or trading resource cards towards mutual benefit. Depending on playstyle, and with a bit of random luck from dice rolls, our 2-player games have lasted from 20 minutes to an hour. Plunder: A Pirate's Life is an excellent addition to any household and is absolutely worth the investment. I'm looking forward to playing more, and this will definitely be a go-to game for our home.

Best family game
Family Review: Pirate Board Game Our family has been playing Pirate together, and it’s become an absolute favorite game night staple. From the first round, everyone — kids and adults alike — was fully engaged, laughing, planning, and trying to outsmart each other on the high seas. The gameplay strikes a great balance between strategy and fun: you’re always making meaningful decisions, but nothing feels overly complicated or slow. Every turn brings a fresh twist, whether you’re hunting treasure, battling rivals, or trying to avoid a perfectly timed mutiny. What really sells it for us is how social it feels. There’s just the right amount of competition and interaction without anyone feeling left out. Even players who aren’t “serious gamers” stay involved and invested in the outcome. The components are colorful and sturdy, and the theme really shines — you can almost hear the creaking ship timbers and splash of waves as the game unfolds. Bottom line: Pirate is fun for all ages, easy to teach, and keeps everyone laughing and strategizing. It’s become a go-to choice for family game night, and we highly recommend it if you enjoy lively, thematic board games that bring everyone together

Less of a family game - Great for couples!
Gifted spouse this game for Christmas as he was a huge fan of Risk and likes the "attack" games. This is a fun game - definitely need to have patience for turns can take a while between ship building, battling for ship/islands, moving storms, and/or playing/moving the treasure. You can lose all of your ships and islands and stay in the game which is a nice option. Overall it took us about 1-1.5 hours to play through the second time (after our initial learning play through). So definitely a time investment but a fun one. I would hesitate to play with more than 2 people unless you know the others are focused to get through turns. I would rather give a kidney than play this with my kids (who are under 10). The rule book is large but there are nice reminder cards to keep with you as you play. We referenced the book only 2-3x the second play through. The 2 person play uses only a portion of the board. Also board setup is a bit confusing at first but intuitive for next time - not just an unfold and play board. I recommend for a birthday or Christmas gift - seems a bit out of the price point to just buy to try. Board is well produced but be careful punching the "X"s out of the cardboard as one of ours already got busted.

Very Fun for Anyone
This game was a lot of fun. My wife and I have played a couple of involved board games with a few friends of ours about 4-5 times total in our lifetime. My wife and our family with two children 12 and 16 have played Castle Panic and Forbidden Island a couple of times. I liked to play Risk when I was a kid. As a family we have now done 2 escape rooms. Took us 45 easy minutes of set up and rule reading to get going. There were four of us, we spent three hours playing, but my wife moves through her turns like a turtle. The game was easy, a good blend of luck and strategy. Attacks, territories, alliances, bartering, etc... We didn't waste any time going back to reread rules just to figure out game mechanics, it was all pretty apparent. We are a close family and try to have a family night at least once a month. While trying to figure out what our family night should be this month I had the idea of a game night vs going out, which could hav cost hundreds of dollars. Yes we go hiking in State Parks, but we also go hiking in Amusement Parks, we don't do the same thing over and over. We've decided that we will play one game for about 2-3 game nights in a row, so we have a chance to really get to know and develop strategy. Maybe we'll move faster and get two games in the time of one once we are confident. Given our patterns, we might have 2-3 game nights in the next 6-8 months. So this little game will get our famiy through the next 1/2 year or so. If my wife and I have our semi annual game night with some of our friends this year, I'll bring this as an option. Board, spinners, box, dice, game pieces, by all accounts, are excellent. I wouldn't cry about the quality of this. And it is a pirate game that works and is cool. I mean come on.

Plunder: Tesori e Tradimenti in Alto Mare!

Catan meets pirates! Amazing game
Really like this one. It has flavors of Catan while offering a really well designed pirate theme. Can be played 2-6 players and also as a team game 2v2v2, 3v3 or asymmetrical if desired. The ships are very cool and the upgrades work well (2 cannons really make a difference!). Very happy I came across this one! I would like to see an expansion in the future that can improve balance slightly because much like Catan, you can be at the whims of a dice role (if you role a lot of 1s you'll not be enjoying pirate life). I've seen suggestions of a ghost ship or giant kraken that chases the top player could be implemented easily. Asymmetrical ship powers would also be very cool to see. -1 point purely because the box was a bit damaged.

Piratenleben, war noch nie so schön!!
ARRR!
