Milescraft 8408 Center Finder - Center Scriber and Offset Measuring & Marking Tool for Woodworking

I’m always on the lookout for inexpensive gadgets for my woodworking shop, and this tool is small, easy to use and easy to store. I’ve found several uses for it and it’s durable enough to last for many years.

Had bought this quite some time ago and finally got around to use it and break it in.

First, this is a functional tool. I was disappointed that none of my mechanical pencil would fit. Only wooden pencils. Ok, that works, but it did not bring me joy. It’s about a solid 1/16 to 1/8 inch away from joy. I may be doing some mods, but it would be awesome if it had come with some limited adjustability.

It’s my ‘go to’ tool for marking the center of a board befor cutting or drilling. It works for all of my smaller wood boards. (2x4 or less)

Well, I finally got around to using this marking tool the other day. I needed to quickly scribe a short piece of 2x4 to bore a couple of holes with a forstner bit. I needed to add two round magnets to the edge of the workpiece for use with a poorly designed TV stand the boss brought in to work for business related training sessions. The center scriber works good if only working with narrow edge materials. I was only able to center scribe the center of my work piece because it was shorter than the width of the tool's two posts. This tool can not center scribe to the ends of narrow edged boards or PVC panels we sometimes use to fabricate enclosures for electronic devices. The pencil was a bit snug when inserting into the tool. I had no problem removing pencil after using the marking tool. It is a good tool for quickly center scribing the narrow edge of your work piece. With some improvements, it could be more awesome.

Such a great tool. Very easy and versatile to use. Seems pretty durable. I like the magnet and storage portion to hold a pencil.

My dad works at a hardware store and asked for this for Christmas. He tends to be a skeptic about products since he sees alot but overall he reported its easy to use. Durable for a variety of jobs. As well as a convenient size.

I worked fine I just wish it was a little bit larger. You won’t be able to use for pieces of wood thicker than 3”
