A great way to start learning Erlang!
If you are only going to buy one book about Erlang this is the one you want. This is a fantastic book for anyone wanting to learn Erlang, it has helped me tremendously accelerate my learning. Sure you can read it for free on the web, but I wanted to support the author and I find it faster to open the book to whatever section I need than to navigate a web interface. Besides it’s always nice to have something to read when the power goes out and you want to save your batteries!

Jam-packed with Content
Some points I thought worth mentioning:* Hebert tries to teach on a level that is both for those who may be totally green, but also aware that his demographic is probably those who know a good chunk of computer science concepts and are fluent in other languages. Many will correctly claim Hebert's teaching style as humorous and quirky; I'd like to add that it takes the pragmatic approach, as well.* Concurrent application design is hard and Erlang can be a bit of a zoo, but the structure Hebert takes in the book is well paced and logical. Protip: read the chapters before you implement anything. Abstaining from implementing will help test your memory of the concepts at hand when you finally do code the examples in the book.* The book, like Erlang, is crammed with content. It's roughly 600 pages where its muse of Learn You A Haskell for Great Good is only half that. Again, Hebert is trying to get you acquainted and exposed while also touching on _important_ particularities (rather than bog one down in page long explanations of graph theory, for example. See my first point). If you're unsure whether or not to buy the book, I recommend reading the forward by Joe Armstrong.

Definitely not Squidward Tentacles
Seller:Bought it from Good for Readers. It came well packaged with no damage. It took nearly 1 week to arrive. I bought it for 26.25 bucks + shipping.Product:If you're an "aficionado" with new languages, different infrastructures and gimmicks, you may as well take a look on Erlang. Most of its concepts, if not all, came from barebones communication infrastructure. And with that, a lot of different and interesting solutions. Although functional, Erlang is quite a simple language to use. Some of its facilities can make your life as developer easier. There are some interesting projects built of Erlangs solutions (i.e. ChicagoBoss, Elixir). It is definitely worth a shot. As for the book, its really well written. Mr. Hebert gives some great good advices and insights all around the book. As well as maintaining a good sense of humor through out the book. Making it enjoyable to read. There a whole bunch of practical (complex) examples in the book. Definitely an excellent product.Do I regret buying?Nope!

The book is excellent. Some parts of it need a bit more of a push to get you to understand the language, but if you have problem solving skills it should be easy. If you don't understand, read it again, it'll sink in. If you encounter a roadblock, don't give up, theres your chance to think outside the box. Googling provides meager support if you're looking for an easy out.

If you want to learn erlang, start here
The best intro to erlang you can get. I'm still learning, and still coming back to this book for reference, but I have a true understanding of the language now, thanks to this book. Now I am just lacking practice and a few other things before I would call myself proficient in erlang.

A must-have for Erlang aficionados
I've bought and read all of the other Erlang books published so far, but this one is my favorite. The book, and the site that started it all, has excellent depth as well as light, fun writing! Most likely, Erlang will never hit mainstream, and I'm glad it won't. But at least the few of us will have some excellent books to cover this obscure language/platform.Outstanding job, Fred!

Best book on Erlang
This is the best book I have read in Erlang and OTP. It thought me Erlang, OTP but also how they work. An excellent book for anybody interested on concurrency and parallelism. After reading it I become a full time Erlang developer who creates REST JSON APIs with Cowboy.

To funny
Its a good book for beginners, if you are interested in language as a tool. But if you seek a fast help with your project use online free version because of search tool. All tye funny names and jokes render tutles in this book mostly useless. But it is well written. It goues verry well with „otp in action”. It is a definatelly book for a fun read.

Ottimo starter.

If you want to learn Erlang *this* is the first book you should get
This Book started initially as a Website where the author described his experience how he learnt Erlang himself.Well it got out of hand, Learn You Some Erlang or LYSE how it is referred to in the Erlang community is *the* goto Book for beginners *and* Experts alike. It starts with the very basics but if you stay with it it takes you all the way through the hard parts. All this time keeping the tone light and the examples accessible, not to speak of the nice drawings by the author. For the experts (or the beginners who will certainly soon be experts if they read this) there are great chapters that are nowhere else explained in this clarity, like e.g. Building Releases or Common test, where the original documentation is quite inaccessible reference manuals. These advanced chapters provide the introduction into the topic that is indispensable to get into the topic. Its great to have all this now in book form, I'm working with Erlang since 2007 intensively and will take this as the opportunity to read it end to end again. If you are still not convinced look at the web version before you buy this great book.
