Yes，Surely you can spot feed small pellets.This coral feeder you asked is a great product.There are two ways to suck the coral food in and three ways to push the coral food out to feed to coral.Three ways to feed coral are as below: (1)You can press the white pole down to push the coral food out to feed the coral. (2)Rotate the white gear down to push the coral food out to feed the coral and If you rotate it slowly then the coral food will come out slowly. (3)Press white rectangle pole to push the coral food out to feed the coral.

Does frozen mysis and such fit through the opening to feed or would that clog the tip?

I took the tip off, it's only pushed on. And I only use it to direct feed my corals. I only use it for reef roids.
