Awesome Game!
Plants vs. Zombies sets itself apart from other multiplayer third-person shooters. Firefights can still be fast and furious, with good shooting mechanics and class-based combat between 24 players, but thanks to its zany character classes and silly sound effects, itโs actually laugh-out-loud funny. Itโs a good game that spits bright green peas in the face of todayโs brown-and-grey shooters. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The Game is Focused on Co-Op and Competitive Multiplayer 3rd-Person Shooting ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare changes up the formula by adopting a 3rd-person shooting mechanic that comes alive with co-op/competitive gameplay modes. This mutliplayer-only title will allow up to 24 players for online play and a 4 player co-op mode. Each player can control their own class of plants/zombies and engage in huge skirmishes across wide open locales. One mode lets players pick a plant class and deal with waves of zombies, which leads into even more zombie waves or a final boss encounter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Itโs Being Developed With The Frostbite 3 Game Engine ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This title is being published by Electronic Arts, a publishing gaming company thatโs known for its most recent video game development engine โ Frostbite 3. This engine is most known for powering Battlefield 3. This engine is being utilized to develop these upcoming EA games: - Dragon Age: Inquisition โ Star Wars: Battlefront โ Mass Effect (Sequel) โ Mirrorโs Edge (Prequel) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. Three Game Modes ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - GARDENS & GRAVEYARDS: n this massive 24-player mode, plants must defend their garden bases from zombie invasions โ and you get to play either side! To capture a base, the zombies must conquer the garden and raise their tombstone โ the more zombies that are in the garden area, the faster the tombstone rises. Once a base is captured, the combat shifts to the next garden objective - TEAM VANQUISH: In the second mighty 24-player competitive mode, players square off directly and try to send the other team to the compost pile. Pick your side, powerful plant or fun-loving zombie, and let the botanical battle begin - GARDEN OPS: This four-player co-operative mode is ideal for gamers that want to team up with their friends. The objective is simple โ the Plant team must defeat waves and waves of zombies and zombie bosses like Gargantuar who are on the attack. Like in all modes, teamwork is crucial if you want your brains to survive ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Verdict ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Garden Warfare respects its roots by preserving its characters and their humor and skillfully adapting their charm to a third-person shooter. A few clever twists on the standard modes give the action some fresh personality, and the co-op survival mode is a fun homage to the original games. Plus the solid controls, fun modes, and varied map design make it a good shooter to boot.

I was skeptical, but this game is the real deal. It's great for all ages!
A Tactical, fast-paced, and all-around enjoyable Shooter. Plants vs Zombies : Garden Warfare brings this franchise to new grounds. I was very skeptical about this game before I purchased it, as a Plants vs Zombies fan, I thought this was another franchise getting involved in a genre that it was not meant for, and simply alienating veteran and newcomers alike. However, I couldn't have been more wrong. This game is every bit of fun as any other Shooter right now on the market and the best part about it is is that it's a game acceptable for all ages too. Before I go any further, I should mention that this game is meant for players who have Xbox Live. If you do not have Xbox Live, this game unfortunately will not even load for you. It's a bummer, but unfortunately more and more games are going to an "Always Online" format to combat pirating instead of other methods. So again: If you are planning on purchasing this game for yourself, a family member, a friend, or anyone else that is not an Xbox Live member, do not bother! Past that, that is my only real flaw with the game. The game itself is almost always enjoyable with it's cartoony humor that you would come to expect from Plants vs Zombies at this point. The game isn't overly violent, even though it uses guns, none of the effects on any other characters "kill" a target other than making them fall over where you are knocked out until a teammate picks you up, or you respawn. It's not gorey, it's all cartoony, and isn't anything different than you'll find on most cartoon shows for children these days. At the end of the day, this game is an enjoyable shooter that is similar to Team Fortress 2 in terms of gameplay, but plays out for a game for any gamer of any ages, even if you weren't a fan of the franchise before. I've sunk more time into this game than Titanfall by far and it's been worth every minute.

Incredibly fun game, beautiful graphics. All future DLC will be free.
I've been having a blast playing PvZ Garden Warfare. The online 24-player matchmaking is incredibly fast and rock solid. There are tons of upgrades to unlock and customize your characters. You gain points after each round which you can use to obtain card packs for items and upgrades. There are 8 different characters to learn and level up plus alternates of each class. Each character in the game is extremely distinct and has a very unique play style and set of abilities. For the casual gamer there's a more laid back "boss mode" that lets you control the battlefield from above with a tablet or Kinect. This casual game has you collecting sun drops like the classic PvZ games to unleash special attacks or drop support on the battlefield. Gardens and Graveyards has you defending or advancing across a massive map fighting for one check point at a time. Garden Ops has you playing a 4-player online co-op Horde/Tower Defense game against waves of AI and bosses. My only criticism of Garden Ops is that there should be more environmental defensive upgrades in this game. Horde mode in Gears of War 3 for example had more Tower Defense gameplay than this. Considering PvZ's heritage I was disappointed to see that there wasn't a greater emphasis on building up and leveling up your defensive position between each round. Considering the price this is a great deal. For those who are concerned about a lack of modes keep in mind that the developer has promised that they will be delivering a steady stream of FREE DLC for this game going forward. This game is great for all ages and is a refreshing change of pace from the standard shooters you see on Xbox Live.

This is an amazingly creative game and unique in the genre.
First off, let me just say that it was known ahead of time that this game was multiplayer only and required Xbox Live to play online. Giving the game a poor review when that was a known aspect written about the game for months and written on the box is rather disingenuous in my opinion. Now, for the game itself. Excellent! I played several hours with my friends last night and while there were a few hiccups with the servers on day 1, it didn't detract from an amazingly fun experience. PopCap has done a tremendous job in translating the PvZ universe into a class based shooter. The gameplay, environments, music, and even the mannerisms will all be familiar to PvZ fans. Meanwhile, as a hard core shooter fan, I find myself very happy with the depth of the characters and the shooting mechanics themselves. It's even very well balanced in that each of the 8 classes is truly viable in their own way. Both the online competitive multiplayer and the "Garden Ops" co-op are a blast to play and very well designed. The card pack unlocks are near endless and are fun to collect almost like being a kid again with the classic sticker books. It's blast to not only customize your characters with unique items, but there are also rare variants of each character that have special abilities like a Sunflower that shoots flames and lights zombies on fire. Even better for those that aren't aware, PopCap will be supporting this game with FREE DLC going forward including new maps and other bonuses. For $40 this game is bargain in my opinion and I know I will spend many days playing it both with my friends and with my sons. Well done PopCap.

Fresh, Fun and Addictive!
(Just so you know, this is an online-only game. Meaning you NEED a reliable internet connection and an Xbox Live Gold account to play it. It says so on the box, but some people failed to see it and were very upset when they couldn't play the game. You've been warned! Moving on...) In a world filled with so called "hardcore" shooters this game feels like a breath of fresh air! The style is lighthearted and comical, but don't let that fool you, there's a lot of depth in it for the more serious gamers. The graphics are quite beautiful on Xbox One with a bright color pallet and an impressive attention to detail. Gameplay is smooth and solid with all the action feeling instantly familiar to anyone who's ever played Halo or one of the many other popular shooters on the market. It's got 2 main modes; Garden Ops and Multiplayer. [Garden Ops] Garden Ops is a horde style survival mode where you fight wave after wave of zombies as a team of up to 4 players controlling various plant types. The goal is to protect your garden from the invading zombies while trying to keep your team alive as well. It's a simple premise, but there are additional elements to mix things up a bit. You can place "dummy" plants in pots located in various locations around the map to aid in the protection of your garden and give you some reinforcement in a firefight. There are also "Boss" rounds which randomly select more difficult opponents to throw at your team. [Multiplayer] Multiplayer in PvZ:GW consists of somewhat standard modes, with the exception of "Welcome Mat" mode. There's "Team Vanquish" which is a standard deathmatch mode where the first team to score 50 KOs wins. Then there's "Gardens and Graveyards" where you have to capture an enemies base in an allotted amount of time before moving to the next round. Both of these modes are also playable in a classic format where the players are stripped of their unlocked items in favor of a more balanced game. Then of course there's "Welcome Mat" which is essentially "Classic Team Vanquish" with an added health bonus given to players who get KO'd. This makes it much easier on less experienced players because they get a bit of an advantage against the enemy team if they're repeatedly dying in battle. [Stickers] In all game modes you earn coins for many different actions. You spend these coins on "Sticker Packs" which are randomly generated assortments of dummy plants to use in Garden Ops, weapon upgrades, character upgrades, custom apparel and character pieces (collect 5 and you earn a new unique playable character). All these stickers come with a value rating ranging from "common" to "very rare". There is an enormous amount of unlockables in-game, so expect to put in a lot of game time if you want to unlock everything. The Sticker Packs also vary in price with the more expensive packs more likely containing items of greater value. [Characters] There are 4 different classes on each side. A soldier type class (Peashooter/Foot Soldier Zombie). A medic type class (Sunflower/Scientist Zombie). An engineer type class (Cactus/Construction Worker Zombie). And a specialty class (Chomper/All-Star Zombie). Each has unique abilities and strengths. You'll have to experiment with them to find a play style that suits you. I'd recommend trying each class at least once, you might find one you like even if you initially weren't interested. There are plenty of ways to customize your characters as well so don't be afraid to get creative! [Extras (Split-Screen, DLC)] There are is an exclusive split-screen mode on Xbox One for 2 players, but it's VERY limited. You can only play Garden Ops and only offline. There is an option for a 3rd player using Xbox Smartglass or Kinect, but that too is limited. The reason it's exclusive and not too fleshed out is that the developers added it in late into the development of the game. It's also limited to 2 players because it runs on a very complicated game engine which has never been used for split-screen before. It's a nice bonus still. As an added value there's FREE DLC out now for the game which adds more maps and a new mode called "Gnome Bomb". Normally you'd have to pay around $10 for an addition like this, so it's a nice gesture from the devs to do this.

This is a very fun game
I've had the game since launch and am having a blast playing it. I'm not an online gamer by any means -- it's been 10 years since I spent this many hours with a multiplayer/online game. I'm also not much of an FPS gamer, having only dabbled in Halo campaigns and avoided war games (COD, BF) altogether. I find this game to be fun because the controls and play mechanics are immediately easy to grasp, yet there is real depth to the development and customization options of characters. There are four primary plant characters and four primary zombie characters. They are well varied in their skills. As you play games, you earn coins that are used to purchase sticker packs. Stickers may be cosmetic features (tattoos, hats, celebration animations), planter items, parts of unlockable characters (when you collect all 5 stickers for a character you can use it in game, these are variants of the primary characters) or other benefits. There are a handful of game modes ranging from local split screen to horde mode conquest (I've spent nearly all my time on a mode called Team Vanquish -- 12 vs. 12 battle, first team to 50 kills wins). There is also an Xbox SmartGlass feature that allows one player on each team to participate via their tablet. It all makes for a very fun experience that leaves me repeatedly saying "just one more game" well into the night.

Fun times...
So far this game is a blast. It ain't the best, and it ain't the most innovative, but it sure is the brightest and the most amusing shooter I've played in quite a while! I haven't played a whole lot, but the mechanics are solid and varied among the classes and between each side. Oddly enough for a $40 game, the AI in the horde mode is also surprisingly good. Most importantly for this game is the style. "Exudes personality" is a grossly overused phrase, but honestly it fits the bill perfectly here. This game is more about having fun for an hour or two playing a decent TPS game to for the purpose of unlocking wacky stuff rather than perfecting your game trying to get to the top of the killchart. It's just... fun. Also, very kid friendly. I have no problem playing this with my 3 year-old in the room as compared to Gears or CoD. Yeah baby, daddy ate the mean monster. We're protecting the garden so our flowers don't get eaten! Nice.... There have been some server problems to date (2/26/2014), but hey, what do you expect for launch day. This is one reason they launch on Tuesdays and not Fridays. Could you imagine the fireworks if people couldn't play over the weekends? Yikes. The only real downer with the game involves split screen, which my wife and I were really looking forward to. The good new is it works. Whew. With local multiplayer going the way of the dodo it is nice to see a game that at least offers it. However, only one of you advance, which is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because I play a lot more than she does so she can use the cool stuff I get. A curse because it feels like she isn't really advancing, because, well, she isn't. It's not gamebreaking because the teamwork is still great, but I still hope they tweak this in the future. Finally, be aware this is an online only game. Quite frankly, if you are getting an Xbox you should already be considering a gold account; if you're worried about that, you should really look at a PS4. Just the way it is... But if you've already got one, just know going into it that it needs constant internet, even for split screen. Overall, a solid 8. Loads of fun to be had and family friendly enough to take a break from doll house without kicking the kids outside, but low features in split screen and nothing insanely innovative. EA, quit using your servers and switch to Azure!

Fun (Online) Multiplayer Game
I bought this game because I was very excited about the fact that it supports splitscreen, but it only works offline (only Survival, no Competitive). And after playing for a while with my brother the survival mode got boring, as only P1 will unlock stuff (P2 is only there for the ride), and we also ran into some bugs. All that aside, the game IS fun and has a lot of unlockables. You never seem to run out of stuff you can get. There's a lot of customization options for each class both cosmetic and mechanic. Also the game does feel like a nice addition tho the PvZ franchise, even though it's a shooter, and if you're like me and love the art style of the series and its humor, don't worry because it's there. So, all in all the game is very fun, but if the local capabilities were one of your main interests I'd suggest you look up exactly what you'll be able to play with your couch buddy.

Great game if you have Xbox live
This is a great game and great fun, well that's what my son told me... the one thing to be mindful though is you need Xbox live to play. The multiplayer function is a barrel of laughs and the game is quite random but at the same time addictive, enjoy.
