Wild Animals: Trace line art onto paper or canvas, and color or paint your own masterpieces (Trace & Color) Paperback – January 1, 2015

I'm a huge fan of Jason Morgan's work. This is a pretty nice little book, showing six different animal paintings and templates (tiger, snow-leopard cub, black panther, squirrel, baby elephant, and lion. Each page shows what colors you will need (in a little circle) to do the paintings. For example black, burnt umber, light grey, etc.But there are two issues I have with this book. One: two of the paintings are quite large, so the page binding goes right through a critical part of the picture. The very center of the black panther's face/nose is right in the middle where the binding is, so you really can't see much of it clearly. The other painting, the tiger, isn't as much of an issue because you can see that one on the cover of the book.My other issue is it doesn't explain when/how the colors are used. It just shows you and expects you to figure it out. In some cases it's pretty obvious, but in others, where several colors are layered, it isn't so obvious. So I wish there was some kind of notes or indication of which colors are used for the fir (base, highlights, etc), eyes, etc. Like I said, not a huge deal, but it could've easily been fit into this small book and made things a bit more clear.Otherwise, this is a great book and I love the template idea. I give it 3 1/2 stars.

Please don't get me wrong the images are great. I gave this a 3 because the outlines remind me of paint by a number set I had when I was a kid,long long time ago. Do not think that you will be able to trace an animal with the enclosed graphite paper and presto you have a masterpiece. This takes a lot of patience and time.You can outline the animals with no problem but when you get into the detail like fur, get prepared to fill in the little areas with your paints or what ever medium you choose. The instructions tell you what colors to use but the pencils, brushes, pen strokes are up to the individual.The book is mostly on artist mediums and their use.The cost of this course is good. But if you think this will make you a great artist after using it, it will be up to you to decide.

Great tracings and nice big color pictures to work from. There are no sstep by step instructions so don't complain about it. They do give you a line of color dots to compare to and for what it is Trace & Color it's great!

Beautiful book; would say for advanced painters.

I like this book , the only thing is to add a littleinstr on how to do the paint in oil it is wet,use acrilic etc .

Love the illustrations, and great tracings! so excited to play with it! Glad it leaves so much creative liberty for the artist!

Jason morgan is a fantastic artist and a wonderful teacher..I have one of his other books....he is a natural. This book allows even a beginner the chance for greatness.

I can hardly wait to get started. It gives a good clear instruction on color and shading. Good book. Added bonus are the tracings to use.

Bin sehr überrascht von diesem Buch. Es hat keine besonderen Anleitungen und trotzdem ist es für Anfänger ein absolutes must have.Verschiedene Tiermotive als Vordruck um es übertragen zu können. Verschiedene Materialien und Techniken werden behandelt so das man sofort mit dem malen beginnen möchte. Einfach TOP !!!

To bad they didn't explain how to mix the colors, but I still like the book for all the information on color mixing, the the beautiful pictures to trace of animals, and the graphite paper..
