Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Vol. 2: The Weeping Angels of Mons

This is a classic bringing the weeping angels to the center stage. They have been a thorn in the Doctors side for the longest time. I admire the improvisation the doctor portrays or does he know what his doing? The art work took another turn but it feels mixes nicely with the war narrative. Is it me or Gabby changed her appearance later on?

Volume 2 of the Tenth Doctor's Titan Comic adventures is a stellar addition to your collection, but not as good as Volume 1. The story is really cool, I think better than pretty much any Weeping Angel ep of the series. The details are incredible and most characters are well written. That being said The Doctor doesn't feel as Tenth Doctor-y as I would like. He seemed more early Ninth Doctor-ish here. Gabriella is a delightful companion who is better written than many recurring characters on the show in recent years. Yes, the end of the main story will probably remind you of S3's "The Family Of Blood" but that's not a terrible thing. The secondary story here is quite enjoyable as well. Robbie Morrison did a great job with story but the Doctor could have been written better. Now for the artwork. I hate to criticize because no way I could draw that well but the art was strange in regards to the Doctor. He only really looks like the The Doctor on the cover. For some reason the artist was consistently drawing Ten as looking angrily distressed or confused. He's The Doctor, not Batman. They also drew him as being a bit bulky at times. The Tenth Doctor is infamously skinny. Seems like weird choices were made by the art department. There is a really wild picture of The Doctor standing in front of a mass soldier graveyard, reminiscent of the album cover for Master Of Puppets. It's fantastic art but it would be better if they'd actually made him look like the Doctor instead of angry Batman Doctor. The other art is really wicked but it's slightly distracting how little the Doctor looks like himself. To sum it up we have a great story but a Doctor acting like a prior version of himself. And we have great artwork but a Doctor who doesn't look like himself. No offense to those involved here but I hope the powers that be stick with Nick Abadzis and the other artists in the future. Volume 2 gets a B 8/10.

The Tenth Doctor continues to be my favorite and I'm so glad these comics exist. The Doctor and his companion Gabby find themselves in the year 1916 and not only is The Great War happening but the Weeping Angels have showed up so things are about to get complicated. I've been enjoying all of the Titan DOCTOR COMICS for some time now and this tale of the Tenth Doctor fighting Weeping Angels during the carnage of World War One was absolutely top-notch and totally worked for me. I highly recommend this for Tenth Doctor fans or Who fans overall.

My 10 yr old son has spent the last year more focused on viral videos than reading, so the combination of Dr Who and graphic novels have proven to be a huge hit and one where he will retire early to read a half or whole one of these.

his book collects Issues 6-10 of Titan's Eleventh Doctor Comic series. The first four issues feature the return of the Weeping Angels, this time going up against the Tenth Doctor and Gabriella in World War I. The artwork in here is simply glorious. After, "Blink," the Weeping Angels got away from their original concept of sending people back in time for far more ordinary means of murder, probably because the original method would mean creating costly locations. But in comic book form they can create the locations with a stroke of the pen. The art is great and there are some beautiful full page and two page spreads. The writing by Morrison is very good and he does a solid job of capturing the feel of the Tenth Doctor particularly in this post-Donna era. That angst about having a companion comes through clearly. True, the end did seem to borrow from, "The Family of Blood," and there was a pointless straw man about religion and a priest whose faith depended on them not being real angels. Still, this was a solid story otherwise. Issue 10 features a return visit to New York for Gabriella in, "Echo," a story involving a sound creature in New York. It a typical romp that would have worked well in Doctor Who magazine as a tell a story the television show couldn't touch. Overall, this is another nice collection for the Tenth Doctor.

Gave two of these books as gifts and the person loved them.

Era un regalo e so che è stra piaciuto. Per i grandi fan del Doctor Who, penso che non si riesca a resistere. Io ho dato solo una sbirciata al fumetto: il disegno a me personalmente non piaceva tantissimo ma la storia sembrava interessante. Da quanto ho capito sono storie a parte rispetto alle puntate della serie, con nuovi personaggi che affiancano il Dottore. Penso che se avessi saputo che avrebbe avuto tutto questo successo (nella mia amica intendo), avrei preso tutti e 3 i fumetti sul 10° dottore!

Doctor who and comic books 2 of my favourites. This is a brilliant comic book for any fans, it continues the adventures of David tennats 10th doctor. The story is brilliant and the art work especially that of the angels is really well done. All in all a good read.

It's good, the morality of letting soldiers get got by the angels doesn't really play into it but it's still an enjoyable story.

This one I tried to buy from Waterstones, due to some weird contract problems they could not get hold of it. Amazon had it so I bought a copy. The legend of the Angel of Mons is well known among those who served in the first world war in France. Dr Who ramps it up to volume 11 but remains sensitive to the real situation. It does not pull punches where detail is concerned, the scenes of death and destruction all around is right there on the page. the Doctor's assistant is from New York 21st century and seems to take in her stride, the characters feel real as they try to make sense of the madness occurring hourly about them. The weeping Angels are the perfect villains, seen and unseen as they stalk their already traumatized victims and sending them thither and yon throughout history with often just as tragic results. As a graphic novel it succeeds over where the written word would struggle, with the visual comes a starkness that lends gravitas to the story. As a story it works well within the Who universe, one is reminded of the war games, Patrick Troughton's last story, that involved time travel on a very bizarre level, this one however manages to just plain creep out the reader, a battle field everywhere you go and if that isn't enough, hungry predators ready to consume any living being left over from the carnage. I won't give away any details as this would be spoilers unwelcomed, but I admit freely some of it brought a lump to my throat, my own grandfather was a Royal engineer in this conflict and he was gassed in the trenches, he made it home but died from corroded lungs in 1920 aged 42, he was a train driver at Waterloo, I have his service medals. This story works on a personal level unlike others and lacks the gungho go get em' ritual that a lot of war stories have without taking away the bravery and stoicism the real soldiers had to exhibit trying to stay alive in the insanity they were thrown into. Dr who fans will like this I think, WW1 has no one living now that could comment on it, but I would like to think they might have given it a look at least. Well drawn and faithful to characterization makes it breeze along, I felt mentally out of breath afterwards, very absorbing read.
