This is my second time buying. It works perfectly. My only complaint is the part that would hold a badge wore out over time; however, that time was three years for it to wear out from nearly daily use for those three years. Even with that it was only the plastic that wore out and the fibers made into it never tore so it still stayed intact. I never had problems with it not retracting and it has a strong enough pull for me to carry everything I needed for my job (badge, safety card, locking socket removal tool, and security token)

I’m sure anyone looking at these as I did, are looking for something that will hold up over time and not lose an important item. I have had many styles and types for a tap card at work. If my holder breaks and my badge falls off somewhere, Im stuck for the night and it’s a big ordeal to get a new one. The reviews I have read on here said a weak point on this is the clip. Im pretty mechanically inclined and so far it looks decent. I am pushing it in about 1/2” which is plenty to get it around a belt loop. Im sure with this style latch, if you forced it further it would break but you can feel the resistance so think it’s common sense. I could be wrong but I will update this review if and when anything fails on this since it’s an important item to me and I appreciate others reviews. I believe this item states that the cord is stainless with a coating. It looks and feels to be true. A review on here said they took a magnet to see but a magnet doesn’t pick up stainless steel. The badge clip on this has fiber woven into it so it looks like if the plastic cracked over time the fibers would still hold the badge. Tension is pretty tight but probably to hold the weight of keys. The end of cord where it meets the badge clip has a metal end that swivels inside the plastic end. I think that helps it not bend and fray when your pulling on it. My cheap ones would break at this point. This looks sturdy and feels sturdy. I received two in the package. Time will tell how it performs. I normally don’t leave a ton of reviews and you do have to take into consideration that out of over 10,000 purchases, some will be negative and possibly because of misuse sooooooo…. I will update if a when something happens. If you don’t see an update, you can look at my purchase date and assume it’s still functioning fine. Just an update… Still working well. The clip lever can pop in front of hook if your careless but this is very typical of this type of hook. I have used this every day since purchase and this happened maybe once or twice. I still would recommend this item. Update: Still working well. Nothing broken. Been 15 months. Definitely would buy again Update: One of these broke last week. It’s been 19 months. The swivel plastic piece that attaches to stainless cable cracked and came off. I am going to order another one. Seems worth it to me. Update.. The second one broke at the same spot. It lasted about 20 months. I bought another set. I think they are worth it.

The mechanics are good. Strong retractable line and has not weaken in over a year. The only fault I could find is that it only lasted just over a year and the coating over the line came apart.

The retractable badge holder that I was issued at work was a cheap piece of junk that quit working in less than a year. I almost lost my ID when it came apart. Rather than ask them for a new one that will do the same thing, I bought this and hoped it would be more heavy duty. Thankfully, it has been so far. I've been using it full-time for about 4 years now without a problem. It still retracts and holds my badge securely, the coated cable has not frayed at all, and none of it shows any wear. I've accidentally left this thing clipped onto my backpack and driven home on my motorcycle at highway speeds. It stays securely clipped even in a 70+MPH slipstream, even with my ID badge flapping in the breeze. The only issue I've had is that the wire clip that holds it to your belt look has started to oblong the hole it goes into in the carabiner portion. When I press the wire clip down to clip it onto my belt, it can sometimes come out of the carabiner. I have to take the time to put the wire back in the tiny hole so I can clip it to my belt. It's annoying but it doesn't really affect the usability. If it does begin to bother me, I have the other badge holder sitting unused in my closet (I bought this as a 2-pack). This is a much better badge holder than you'll typically get from your HR department. If you have trouble with those cheap ones not lasting, buy one of these, even if you have to pay for it out of pocket.

I originally bought a pair of these on October 1st, 2021. I kept one and gave the other away. It worked great for what it was but a year later the wire snapped. Now, I'm pretty sure I had too much on that badge clip. I had two badges, two keys, a small flashlight, and three metal usbs. It was heavy enough that the wire didn't retract all the way. On October 29th, 2022, I bought the item again. This time I bought two sets. I gave one away to my dad, but kept the other three. I removed the three usbs from the key ring and that solved the weight issue. I'm writing this on February 7th, 2024 and the wire did start getting worn down around the same spot but still hasn't broken. The piece that strings through my badges is, literally, holding on by a thread. I noticed that just yesterday and am in the process of switching over to one of my two other backups I bought at the same time as this one. 12-15 months of usage before having to replace the badge clip isn't too shabby. I use the clip five days a week and have to constantly pull on it to badge myself through doors around multiple office buildings.

I just got these in the mail about 3 or so hours ago (yes my mail runs late) anyways..... Pulling and releasing the tab caused the box to actually come apart leaving the square clip attached to my pants and the box to be flung across the room. Now.... Does this mean it's a bad item? No. Is this user error fixed with super glue? Yes. Ultimately this item is amazing, it's sturdy, relatively quiet, strong pull and very fast retraction. I haven't had the chance to "overload" the weight capacity as of yet but! I will probably be buying this item again because it is amazing! The coated metal string is more than enough of a reason to purchase it. So what if it needs a little help with super glue? I mean we've all put duct tape on our cars and we don't immediately run for a refund.... User error aside this is an amazing product for the price and honestly it's well worth it. Yes I put 4 out of 5 stars on durability due to the potential of an ADHD user purchasing this and getting bored and pulling the string and letting it go about 10 times and having the body snap... But a good company will take that into consideration on the next product and make it so it'll snap at like 50 ADHD pulls instead of 10. Amazing product just gotta remember it's not a toy and to not play with it like I have no common sense.

I bought these b/c it said "Heavy Duty"... I expected "HEAVY DUTY"... I.e something that would hold up longer than 5 months. That being said, technically at 15+usd for a 2 pack, is value for the money, BUT not time! {I'd rather pay 50 dollars & it last my lifetime.. if it's good design, its GOOD DESIGN! "Timeless" That word exist for a reason. Anyways It's not the end of the world financially, if one breaks. BUT I wish the durability had been better than literally 5 months!? Heck, maybe I got a Lemon? I don't know. The "failure point" on my retractable badge, if you look at ATTACHED image, was the cable end. Basically there is a little "stopper" that is clamped on to the end of the cable. Right at the base of that stopper, that goes inside the "retaining head", THAT broke. I don't know how they could fix this, other than, maybe make that "head stopper" a little longer, or more robust? BUT since it's a "2 pack" I've got a back up I can instantly go to, but it made my day in mfg. really crappy. The review date on this is 2025 July 30. I may give an update in the future if the 2nd unit in the box actually impresses me with its longevity. I took my unit that failed apart, b/c I was curious how it "ticked" after it broke... the guts of the unit are surprisingly designed well, they even have some sort of "lubricant" or "grease" in the unit, which was a pleasant surprise. The parts are all plastic internally though-you're only as "strong" as your weakest link, as the old saying goes. Also here's my suggestion... if you got the cash to blow, buy like 3 of this deal. That way you'll just have "back ups".. B/c even with my luck, do I have any "better options" on the market? I honestly don't know of any off the top of my head, even with Amazons search feature..
