Finally, a device that does exactly what I need.
So, I had an interesting dilemma. My AV Receiver has a built in HDMI switch, but I started having an odd issue with it's image quality. Certain blue ranges of color would just be flattened into a band. I only hand banding on that color range of blue. I checked my TV, it wasn't my TV. Checked cables, it wasn't my cables. It was certainly the AV. I can't even find anyone online having a similar issue, so I didn't know what to do to fix it. (Capacitor swap, maybe?) Well, I went with a different approach: bypass the AV video entirely.I bought an HDMI splitter for $20. One cable went to my AV, the other to my TV. Input was from an HDMI switch. See, I still wanted to use the AV's audio capabilities. Decoding 5.1/7.1 audio, and getting uncompressed 7.1 from my PS3/PS4. I turned on my PS3, I got audio and video. Great! Turned on the PS4, I got...video sometimes...but never audio. Turns out, the PS4 wants to detect its video and audio options upon every successful connection, and the cheap splitter was the issue. It wasn't able to talk to both and report back to the PS4.After doing some research, I begrudgingly paid for the HDFury AVRKey. Why begrudgingly? Because I just bought a $20 splitter, does it seem like I really want to be in the price range to spend $150 on this device? WELL, IT WORKS. I can't even be angry after trying it, because seeing this device in action lets me know it's more than just a splitter. It allows communication between the PS4 and AV as well as the PS4 and TV, which is a lot more work than what a mere splitter can accomplish. This thing has a very specific job, and it does it very, very well. Does spending $150 seem like a lot when my AV is obviously having some issues and I should be spending money towards maybe just replacing it? Bah! You're not my mom. I'll keep this AV going as long as I possibly can!If you have a very specific need (like I do), THIS is the product you want. I can see this being useful for those with a 4K tv but an AV that cannot handle the signal. Now your AV can get high quality audio again, and you can still have your 4K HDR video.

Works well, runs hot
I bought a new 4k tv and then realised my receiver won't handle 4k video and locks up when it receives it. I could just run video and audio to tv but then I can only get standard low res Dolby or DTS audio....I didn't want a new receiver as I don't have another 1500 bucks...so I didn't some research and this was the solution...It works very well and sends full HD audio to receiver and the 4k hdr video to tv...I read that the second gen unit has an updated heat sink but this think still runs really hot....I have it behind tv stand and actually place it in a piece of metal to help reduce the heat....I was worried about it being on carpet...I have had it 3 months now with out any issues and it is on all day at times ..would buy again

The right tools for the job
Intelligent product that is the perfect solution for the problem, even though a little expensive. My gripe is that it runs hot and does have a audio glitch once in a while. Excellent customer service, who suggested upgrading to a higher end device that runs way cooler. The GUI application is small and with minimal controls, and the software upgrade process went without a hitch. It does separate audio and supports the max audio capability of my Integra DHC 80.3 without any problemsIt can drive my 10 yr old heavy guage, in wall HDMI cables over 50 feet, and with repeater at the other end, supports 4k HDR 12 bit color flawlessly
