RoboCop: Trilogy Collection [Blu-ray]

I am happy I bought this package; one of my favorite action heroes!

The first movie I can rewatch many times, despite the sequels being not as good as the first one, I still watch it once awhile just to relax.

Maybe I'm missing something but I found this Robocop Blu-ray collection looks and sounds very good compared to other similar movie transfers from the 80s. It's definitely 1080p and not some "upscaled DVD" transfer. I have the  Alien Anthology [Blu-ray ],  Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Skynet Edition) [Blu-ray ] as well as  Blade Runner (Five-Disc Complete Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray ] and this Robocop set compares favorably to those transfers. Yes the first movie does have SOME grain...DUH...given that it was originally filmed on...gasp...FILM and not some digital HD rig! In fact the grain isn't even that big of a deal considering that some modern films have MORE ARTIFICIAL grain added than this movie. As for the sound the main track is encoded via lossless DTS-HD MA!For the price I paid..less than $6 per disc and free shipping I have no reason to even think about complaining. I'm so glad I didn't fall for the uninformed negative reviews and just went ahead and ordered this set. Given that I also own the Robocop DVD set...there's just NO WAY you could upscale those low resolution transfers and end up with the great quality on this Blu-ray set. To do a proper review you need to have seen or own the DVD set AND you need to own a native 1080p TV and have it receive 1080p output from a Blu-ray player. A computer with a Blu-ray drive connected to a native 1080p display is acceptable too.Oh and one final note, I think the people who said the video quality looks exactly like the DVD are either blind or they erroneously watched the first couple of minutes on the first film and thought that was the actual quality of the entire film...LOL! For those who do not know the first couple of minutes is supposed to look blurry and low quality due to the fact it's supposed to be footage of a "TV broadcast"...

I had seen these movies a couple of times on regular TV over the years, but with all the commercial interuptions, I needed to see the full versions. If you like action, with believable hero characters, this is the set for you. Despite the age of these movies, the plots were realistic, and quite current. The first two are definitely my favorites among the three. The video quality was also very good.

I already have the Robocop Trilogy on DVD. I bought this blu-ray version of the box set because I was expecting to see an improved High Definition re-master. And it's not. This transfer to Blu-Ray looks no better than the DVD's. So, it's a waste of money, isn't it?So, I've done a little research of some of my other re-purchased films on to Blu-ray (from MGM) and I've noticed that they too, were disappointments to me as a blu-ray transfer. So, I know now: If it's released by MGM, it won't be any better than the DVD. MGM just doesn't seem to care WHY we would re-purchase our favorite movies on to Blu-ray.The first Robocop in this box set is the same 2007 release. They didn't even bother to change the brownish artwork of the disc to match the other two movies bluer artwork. And of course, there are no extras on any of these discs.With the HDMI cable I had with my older regular DVD player, many of my regular DVD's were greatly improved in picture quality. So, it's proving to be very few and far between that a Blu-ray reissue of a film is actually going to look any better. Some do. I have about 75 Blu-Ray discs now, and only about 45 of them look greatly improved. (When I buy the Blu-Ray, I compare them right away, side by side, Blu-Ray against the DVD, with my two TV's in my den) I guess some movies can't be helped, while some other movies were great masters from the start so no re-mastering effort would be required.I outta just re-cellophane this Robocop Blu-Ray and give it to somebody for Christmas because my DVD's are just as good anyway. I hope they will apply somewhat of a better effort to improve all the James Bond films onto Blu-Ray.UPDATE: I've just recently bought a new 47" LCD TV. Maybe this was a mistake because it is NOW that I see a great improvement of my Blu-Ray DVD's over my regular DVD's. So, I guess the only way that I can continue enjoying my regular DVD's is to keep watching my DVD's only on my 32" LCD TV with the HDMI hook-up because at 32 inches, DVD's look very much like High Definition. On the 47" TV, regular DVD's just don't look that good.

I like Nancy Allen and in robo cop I think she held her own.

Good box set of a classic trilogy, at least two out of three. It still keeps the grain of the original NTSC image but the sound is enhanced and far crisper and better. I'm glad they have resisted the temptation to use CGI to improve the original effects which look very 80's, especially the ED-209 which is a poorly superimposed model when moving. But they are still good for it's time and modest budget. What I would say though is Robocop is not a Director's Cut. It's the exact movie I had on VHS before it was censored for digital release. There is no new footage and reinserting the cut scenes causes a slight pause in the playback which is distracting. It's a minor criticism though. Robocop 2 has never to the best of my knowledge been censored and is a decent sequel, Robocop 3 is just disappointing as it was the first time I saw it at cinema. Also while there are many extras for Robocop the second and third movies only contain a trailer. Even the VHS of Robocop 2 had a making of. Value for money over content.
