Easy Windstream Set-up
I went through a couple of TP-Link modems that one didn't last two weeks and the next didn't last two days. We're on a fairly tight budget and I wanted a simple modem because I have a wireless router that I'm very happy with and didn't want a combo unit. I tried this Netgear modem since it was in my budget and had fairly decent reviews. I didn't realize when I bought it that it was used....but "like new." I had been without a modem for awhile and thought, "what the heck??" So I hooked it up which was incredibly easy and in a few short minutes I had internet and it was super easy to connect to my wireless router. We use a lot of Prime Videos, I have a Fire and two of my boys have Fires. Every now and then we've got all of that running and this never disconnected us at all unlike the TP-Link modem that had such great reviews but didn't work for us at all. I'm on Windstream and this modem works incredibly well. Every now and then it feels a little hot, but it hasn't seemed to be a problem. It was easy to set up, actually works without constant resets and didn't break our budget. That's 5 stars for me!

Great Modem
I'm using this modem with an Airport Extreme Router Base Station hard wired and then wireless connected to an Airport Express as a booster upstairs at the other end of the house. Everything was very simple to install and worked first time tried. this unit works great as a stand alone dsl modem with the Airport Equipment which is the Best as far as I'm concerned. I read other feedback that was negative and seems to be the only time someone gives feedback, so i wanted to set the record straight so others can use this modem & router combination. Go for it it's simple actually and you will love the Airport Equipment, very strong signal, i probably don't need the booster but bought them at the same time so I'm using them.

User manual online doesn't match
The user manual tends not to match the web interface of the device (it could cause problems for some). I would also like to have a better selection of dynamic dns providers than just the single one provided (not much of a selection). I have had trouble figuring out how to map external ports to different internal ports (probably a simple error on my end), but it is annoying as I don't like using standard ports facing the internet. The performance of the device is as to be expected, and loses the star just because of the detriments mentioned above.

Started dropping the internet connection after 3 months.....
I was using this modem in bridge mode as part of my wireless network. It worked fine for 3 months - and then started dropping the signal. At times, I was having to reboot the modem every 15 minutes in order to be able to keep working. The India-based tech support from NetGear was very polite and tried to help, but couldn't resolve the problem and didn't seem to want to admit that it's a hardware failure. I was told that I need to change my internet line coming into the house (which I'm not doing). I wanted to believe that I'd have a good experience with this router - don't be fooled and buy something else.

Very fast modem + setup info
I got the modem working and it is much faster than my Cisco Linksys X2000 modem/Wi-Fi router combo. No BS it's way faster. What's odd is the speed test at my DSL provider website does not show much bigger numbers, but when clicking between websites from my browser bar the pages "pop" quicker compared to the Linksys X2000. Maybe when I hook up the Netgear R6300 Wi-Fi router things will slow down. If they do I'll update this review. Now the really important stuff - Setup. There are reviews about this modem being hard to setup and I think I may be able to help some. The problem is in the setup "genie" I believe. The genie works well, but does not make it clear when to quit. After the genie is finished it takes you into the modem setup page and makes it look like you need to keep going - don't! When you get to the "Netgear Smart Wizard" page with a blue menu column on the left you should be seeing the "Basic Settings" display. When you get here just kill the page with the red X in the upper right and go cruise the Internet. However, if you want to check your VPI and VCI settings - click the "ADSL settings" button in the left side menu below the "basic settings" and enter or verify that VPI is set to 0 and VCI is set to 35 and then click "apply" Then kill the page and go.

Itโs NETGEAR and should have worked
Got this DSL modem to replace a old, old modem that finally died. First let me state that I have been a Netgear user for years and liked their products. I did my research on the requirements for a DSL modem to be used with the Windstream DSL service that we had. Was told by the Windstream technician that their experience was the Netgear modemโs didnโt seem to play well with their network but I decided to chance it. Received this DSL modem from Amazon and hooked it up and sure enough, could not get it to work with the Windstream DSL service. Called Windstream Tech Support, a technician came out and spent a couple of hours trying to make it work. Results were we returned the modem to Amazon and had to lease a DSL modem from Windstream as we needed to get back on line. I was surprised that the NETGEAR modem wouldnโt work in this situation but we could not get it to train with the CO headend. The moral here is ensure that the network item youโre getting has been certified to work in your situation before buying. I donโt fault this modem and would expect it to perform in other system but we just could not get it to do it with Windstream thus the 3 stars rating.

Much better than the TP-Link ADSL2+ modems (TP-8616) that this unit replaced. Netgear quality. Looks modern, never had to reboot it and the lights are dual tone (green/red) to better inform you of status. Works perfectly with Bell DSL 15Mbps (with Teksavvy), even though this modem is not on their compatibility list. Was looking for a modem without a built-in router as I am using an AirPort Extreme as main router (much much better than any hybrid modem/router could offer). Those are getting rare! They're almost all hybrid now.

Although a little dated, I use this device as a modem only. ADSL modems are a rare breed and it's nice to not have to rely on one's ISP to supply their particular version which is often even more outdated as well as inferior. Very easy setup and the usual great quality you would expect from Netgear.

I cannot say that I like it (and give it more than 3 starts) even if is still working after one year. It cannot achieve the full speed that my line could provide (tested another 3 brands prior to this, one was able to download constantly with 10MBs, this one never more that 8MBs). If the environment temperature is higher than 40'C, this modem/router may freeze and reboot by itself. And is quite difficult to install it on a wall...

Purchased this to replace isp supplied modem and discovered Isp service died. Service tech replaced a card at their central office. I never had a chance to try it again but expect it will be fine.
