Beyond A Reasonable Doubt

Brilliantly contrived movie!
I have to say at the beginning this movie struck me as fake to the core! All the stars might have brought people to the show, but it had a strange pace to it. Jessie Metcalf as beautiful as he is, had a really bad haircut. Michael Douglas as handsome as ever, looked and acted the same as he always does. Amber Tamblyn ruled, and Orlando Jones rocked his part. To me this story was brilliant, the actors talented, the dog did great, However the direction needed a good tweaking. This is a thriller, a mystery and at times one wants to scream "idiot'! So many bad decisions but at the end the viewer will see why idiot moves were made. I truly believe the viewer will rethink this story over and over and realize what looks like a stinker is indeed brilliant to the core. As malicious as one particular character is, that part is a display of a great actor showing his talent early on. This movie is not for children, it is full adult content. At the beginning it is relatively clean but as time goes by the curse words ramp up! There are two scenes where characters are in bed together, but those scenes are mild and necessary to show a point that will come together later. Let's just say somebody got used and manipulated! This movie ends well, and all of the bad guys get what is coming to them. And Amber Tamblyn's character does indeed have the last word. Don't mess with the female Assistant D.A.!!!!! For those not easily offended but who like to enjoy a great WTF movie, this is your baby! Action, a love story, a mystery, Jessie and Michael and a few seriously funny scenes and some ice cream and away you go!! Enjoy!

A Surprising Thriller.
The two young journalists' plan got me nervous from the start. The movie engaged me all the way through. Michael Douglas is in it enough to satisfy fans. It needed a stronger "I've got you, you S.O.B," confrontation scene for one character, but then paid off great. I thought a character was doing something stupid, but I got fooled. Great story-telling pace by the director of Capricorn One.

Good intrigue
I enjoy the "who-dunnits" movies and the suspense surrounding it. Acting was pretty good overall, and I appreciated the fact I didn't have to endure nudity and sex just for an R rating (or PG-13 in this case). A good story should carry itself without smut to push it over the top. I would buy this one again.

THE WAY THIS WRAPS UP MAKES IT WORTH THE WATCH!
WHILE MICHAEL DOUGLAS IS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE PLOT, AS A CHARACTER, HE DOES NOT HAVE THAT MUCH SCREEN TIME.IT DOESN'T MATTER- WHEN HE IS ON SCREEN, HIS APPEARANCE CARRIES IMPACT AND KEEPS THE FILM'S MOMENTUM GOING.WHILE HE PLAYS HIS ROLE WELL, ANYONE WHO COULD CARRY A COCKY AND SINISTER ATTITUDE FOR THE PART, COULD HAVE HAD THE ROLE.THE PLOT IS A BIT DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU ARE USE TO SEEING AND SO, IT DOES PULL YOU IN, ONCE YOU SEE IN THE FIRST 30 MINS WHAT THE INTENT IS. IF SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY THIS MOVIE WAS MADE GIVES YOU THE FEELING OF A * MADE FOR TV* FILM- DON'T LET IT DETER YOU FROM FINISHING THIS MOVI THE PAY OFF IS HERE, EVEN IF YOU REALLY HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT AND NOT WANTING TO OFFER A SPOILER, ALL I CAN SAY IS SIT TIGHT AND LET IT UNFOLD.

Michael Douglas was not in the movie enough
Unfortunately, this movie was slow and boring. Michael Douglas a classic actor was seen very little. I think the actors were ok. I especially liked the Black detective and the funny big cop who was complaining and cussing a lot. Nice laugh. However the ending sucked. It appeared they just dropped that out of the sky. They do not give the viewer any info regarding his involvement with the deceased woman-not fair. So the end was not a twist-but really a road block for the viewer who is left wondering: " what the hell". And the actor who portrayed the reporter- i had a hard time watching him. The guy who said Di Caprio should have played the reporter. He really puts himself in all the roles that he does and BECOMES THE CHARACTER. I was going to watch it again to see in the beginning if the end justifys the means. But decided I could not stomach watching again.

A GOOD, UPDATED REMAKE OF A CLASSIC
This remake of a classic Fritz Lang film noir is typical of the work of the much underrated director Peter Hyams - gripping and entertaining. All the modern tweaks that Hyams has made to the story to bring it up-to-date really work, and the two young leading players (Jesse Metclafe and Russ Tamblyn's daughter Amber)are ideal for their roles. It astonishes and saddens me that a thriller as good as this has been denied a cinema release here in the United Kingdom, presumably because it's too "old-fashioned" and because of negative reviews from critics. (What do critics know? They don't, and can't, make films themselves.) With the right kind of publicity this could have been a hit. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well-written and well-crafted thriller.

Entertaining Enough
How do we give stars for a movie? Is it based on whether it is a deep, powerful story? Is it whether it cleverly made with expert direction, editing, script and acting? Or is it simply whether it is an entertaining diversion - nothing special, but does what it says on the tin? It's the last option with which I give this four stars. No, it's not a great movie, but if you want a film which is an enjoyable, straightforward thriller, competently made, and inoffensive - a pizza movie, if you will - then this fits the bill. Some of the reviews for the movie are a little odd - 1 star? Really? There's no big shocks here: a journalist tries to expose a crooked DA by framing himself for murder and it all goes a little awry. We know that much from the back of the case, but it's a decent way to spend 105 minutes. Jesse Bradford is on good form here, and makes you wonder why he doesn't appear in more prominent films as he's a capable actor who manages to carry the film with ease despite the fact it's all a bit predictable. Michael Douglas, on the other hand, should be chewing up the scenery, but seemingly can't be bothered. True, he doesn't have much to work with, but creating a character for himself to play might have been a good idea. As it is, he is simply a cardboard cut out bad guy and, oddly, the weak link in the film as a whole. But is this worth a fiver? Sure.

A gem of a movie
A truly magnificent cat and mouse game that will hold your interest to the very end guessing, A crooked DA and proving this is harder than it looks, so an innocent man sets himself up for murder to get closer to the truth been told, Full on suspense that holds your thoughts and feelings together so I rated this an A grade plus for the development of this story and a masterpiece, with ideas coming thick and fast so you better hold on to your chair as this is a roller coaster thrill ride that will have you thinking all the way, suspense and action thrown in for good measure will make your day. To many hints will spoil the show and my opinion it's worth being put in the library. Acting is marvellous and what more do you want, a nice companion, unfortunately that doesn't come with the movie so you'll have to settle with what your got. Highly recommended. Enjoy!

A twist at the end!
I purchased this title as it looked like it could be a good suspense thriller with Michael Douglas at the helm and it was at a good price. But that's where it ends, unfortunately the story plods along with not much suspense and it feels more like you are watching a T.V movie. Douglas seems like he is just going with the flow, a very disappointing performance. But not to spoil it if you watch it their is a surprise twist at the end.Bonus features; The whole truth, the making of, Criminal forensics- The burden of proof.Video: 1080P 23.98/16:9 1.85:1, Audio : DTS-HD master audio 5.1.

A reasonably good film with a few twists at the end certainly ...
A reasonably good film with a few twists at the end certainly worth watching, but... . All spoiled for me by the incredible very end of the film, which Brainiac was responsible for the last few words.!!!!!
