My dog has been on high doses of prednisone and the thinning of the skin along with hair loss from the drug has resulted in a significant bare patch and elbow callus on her right front leg. I was looking for something to provide relief to the dry, cracked skin as well as to hopefully begin the healing process and found this product with excellent reviews. Since my dog is still under the care of a veterinary internal medicine specialist, I ran the product by her to make sure it was okay and she said, "Oh, yes, I like Elbow Butter a lot!" At first, I was a bit stumped on how to get it out of the tin. It is pretty packed in there, reminiscent of candle wax (but oilier). The instructions recommend using a spoon if you have trouble getting it out. I purchased some "popsicle sticks" at the craft store and find it is much easier to scoop and apply the product with these. Once I have a layer of the balm spread over the area, I then use my fingers and the warmth of my hand to massage it into the skin. I am seeing hair regrowth as well as a softening of the callus, which doesn't seem to occupy as much area as before. This is after about 10 days of use. I am going to continue to apply at least twice daily for a while. Kudos to the company also for their terrific branding -- cute logo on the box and sticker on the bag containing the balm. Loved the handwritten postcard, wishing us well with the product and the terrific instructions folio that also includes information about other products. Shared all of these things with my small business marketing class -- it's great to see a small business that is paying attention to the details and going the extra mile to connect with their customers!

We are on a quest to find something that will work for our dog's dry nose. This is a list of the ones we have tried and our opinions of them. The Blissful Dog Organic Elbow Butter for Dog's Elbow Calluses: Probably the best in terms of moisturizing so far. We don't care for the smell, but it works the best. Burts Bees Paw and Nose Lotion: Runny. Not very moisturizing. Dog Nose Butter Balm Cream Lotion Moisturizer: Hard as a rock. We can't get anything out of the case. I would return it, but it isn't worth the hassle. Kerasal Intensive Foot Repair: Our vet recommended this for our dog's nose. It really isn't for that purpose, but we tried it. We were specifically told to put it on the dog's nose and then wipe it off immediately. Our dog HATES it. We don't know if it burns or if he just doesn't like someone messing with his nose. That being said, we didn't see any significant improvement, so we started for looking for other products.

What Makes It My Go-To: I’ve tried a few options out there, and while some are decent, this one is consistent, high-quality, and actually works. It’s also great for minor dry spots, rough paws, and even his hock joints. Multi-use win. Packaging & Value: Comes in a cute little jar with clean labeling. A little goes a long way, so even though it looks small, it lasts. Great value for how targeted and effective it is. Verdict: Even pampered pups have elbow struggles. I found out that my fur baby was bleeding from one elbow. It looked very dry and was probably cracking every time she laid on the kitchen floor. I tried a formula I made to protect her paws in the winter for her elbows, but it was too hard with most of it being beeswax. This elbow balm was better because it was softer and easy to apply. She even stays still while I apply it! Amazing! That tells me that she likes it. I have used it a few times already and I have noticed the callus is getting softer… it works well! Yes, the 1 oz tin is expensive and small, but a little goes a long way.

The salve seems like it might be very moisturizing. Unfortunately, my dog finds the smell/taste of the product extremely appealing and immediately licks of the product.

I wish I would’ve taken before and after pics. I’ve been using this on my dog’s elbows morning and night for about two weeks. They were black, rough, and calloused. The one elbow was completely ripped open and constantly bleeding from her scratching. The one that wasn’t broken open is almost completely normal skin and hair is beginning to grow back. The ripped open one has now turned to a scar and is still in the process of healing, but it look so great. She hasn’t really scratched them at all. She so happily lets me rub it on her elbows that it has to feel good and be a relief. Get this for your pup! I’m sure it’s great for other areas of their skin too.

This WORKS!!! I have tried several things on my dog even prescription with no relief. I got this balm to put on his elbows and I was surprised how fast it started working to soften his skin. I started putting it on all his dry spots and it has healed his skin like nothing else. It doesn’t break him out like most products do. It’s soft and easy to apply. BUY IT!!!

We purchased this product for our 10 month old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is developing a callus on one elbow. We have been using this 2-3 times a day for about a week now and we have already noticed a huge improvement in his callus!! It is no longer scaly and flaking and certainly seems to be well moisturized. We even feel as though the callus is beginning to thin. We are shocked that it is working so well and as quick as it is and are so happy we caught the callus early. We purchased the Elbow Butter in stick form, and it is very easy to apply so he isn’t bothered by it at all and doesn’t try to lick it off. We couldn’t recommend this product enough!!!
