Invaluable gold!
Invaluable advice for my hobby of making cigar box guitars and battery driven amps.

It does what it says on the tin!
I'm surprised at the negative reviews for this book, mainly with complaints about the lack of wiring diagrams. The illustrations do the job perfectly. A novice like me finds pictures so valuable because you can actually see, without the risk of ambiguity or doubt, where each component is in the circuit. The book, to me, reads like a refresher course on information I have studied, but with the significant benefit of its content being applied rather than theoretical. It uses clear, plain English, avoids jargon, and takes the project in logical, linear stages.Anyone at the expert or intermediate level probably has enough skill and knowledge to complete a project like this without the book and these seem to be the people complaining. For a novice like me it is perfect. Good work, Tim and Mike!Alan, UK.

Too basic
Too many pictures of soldering irons, hole cutting tools and components and not enough circuit diagrams and reasoning. If you've never done O-Level / GCSE physics then this book is for you, otherwise there are better websites.... that are free.

Glad I bought it!
I'm finding this helpful is explaining the basics. Looking forward to building my own 9v amp.Would help if he listed the parts needed.

Util
Una guia paso a paso para construir tu propio amplificador portatil a 9v. Biene muy bien detallado y explicado, y no son necesios conocimientos amplios de electronica.El pero está en las fotografĂas en blanco y negro.

There is plenty of information, but there are other options-
Here's the problem with a book like this. You can go online and get all the information you need to build one of these amplifiers and not spend any money on a book. Cigar box guitars are a great hobby. Once you start thinking outside the "box", you would be surprised what you can come up with. Same goes for these amplifiers, you could buy a kit, they're cheap. and get started. Have some fun. Get away from the TV. Do something and do it now.

cool book
Good book for the absolute beginner. It describes one way to make a small guitar amp, it's very specific. If you want to make a more powerful amplifier or make modifications, you will have to consult other material. In other words, the author made one or two of these, with minimum electronics knowledge, and published a book on what he did. Welcome the world of Amazon: do a thing once, and write a book, self publish on amazon. You don't have to know sheet from shinolla.I bought this, and several other more comprehensive books on electronics, in order to get an overview of small battery operated guitar amps, there are many excellent how to books on electronic circuits written by professionals, not amateurs. If you want to to understand capacitors, amplifier circuits, diodes, resistors ect, there is some good general info in this book as well; Its a good start. I recommend the book.

Difficult to follow the instructions, too many useless pages
I was a little bit disapointed when the book arrived today. I thought, I'd learn a little bit more about 9V amps, building my own amp, tweaking it, aso. Everything I got was a big book with countless b/w pics which are difficult to use. You'll see inches of white wiring stuff and start puzzling around, where they were fixed. Buy a breadboard (the book is built upon this thingy)! I thought, I would get a pcb image, a schematic, instruction how to built a tone control for my "boutique 9V amp", which parts are used, and other useful stuff. It's missing (not even a drawn schematic is present). If you'd put all unnecessary pics in the wastepaper basket, you'd get a book which will be a third of the printed one. I think you understand: every www-diy-board gives you more information, for less money.2 stars only for the fact, that you'll get a link to dld a full colour version of the book.

I find this book electrifying!
Awesome, easy to understand book for a beginner (like me). Have had fun reading this and am gathering parts to build my first 9-volt portable guitar amplifier. Very cool book, and the updates on the web page are nice, too.

very disappointed
this book does not teach you how to build an amplifier. It teaches you how to attach a speaker and a capaciter and a volume knob to a premade amplifier chip. There is no information about how to make an amplifier in this book.

Just so-so..
This book focuses more on tools and soldering than on amplifiers. It keeps referencing website content that isn't really available yet.

Okay but not alot of info.
Get's the job done real simple. Doesn't go beyond one model and doesn't give options. The title says amplifiers plural.

way to go.
Simple and concise.

an OK book!
If you are a complete beginner this is a good book for you! If you are a skilled ampbuilder, not so much.
