Is it able to withstand weather or does it need to come down?

It does withstand weather just fine but if you have snow and won't be using it we would recommend storing it inside during the winter months.

Is this device compatible with the 72 inch, Lifetime Mammoth basketball hoop?

Yes, the iC3 should work just fine with the Lidetime Mammoth. We have only found 2 hoops that have crossbars at the rim that pose an issue.(Listed Below)Lifetime model 1529Lifetime model 1268

Is there a locking mechanism available so it does not get stolen while I am at work?

No locking mechanism. A bike chain to the pole is a simple solution

Is that esay to fold it put it in my car every day?

I felt it was pretty easy to fold up and put away. I never left mine up. As far as in a car, if you had an SUV or van, yes. Car? Maybe slightly harder, but doable I guess.
