Wow. Wasn't sure about the quality of this given a cheaper version was terrible, but it has transformed playing my Super Nintendo on an OLED TV. Bright colours, no lag and noticed a massive improvement from the cheaper adaptor straight from the off. Yes you will need to adjust your picture settings a little for the source you connect it to.Certainly if you have a SNES and want to bring that retro magic back on a modern TV, it's worth every penny.

I own an original Super Famicom system and an N64 NTSC J model that are both modified. My HD Tv supports scart for composite signals but wanted a better picture quality for N64. Composite signals on HD tvs lead to pixel separation which make games with 3d graphics look untidy, shooters and racing games are a bit unbearable because it's hard to see long distance. The cheap HDMI adapters loose brightness and contrast, which makes Doom 64 unplayable but decent enough for SNES. I could still use the composite lead for that but wanted to see if I could get a better experience with N64 hardware. Doom 64 looked great even though I had to adjust the brightness and contrast on my TV and in dark areas I could find switches even though it's a bit darker than composite, the crosshair on Goldeneye was more solid making it easier to aim. Mario kart 64 looked amazing. This adapter doesn't upscale, but it does clean the picture quality up more than analogue signal and SNES games looked twice as better. Sometimes the audio is absent when turning on but moving the aspect ratio switch back and forth fixes it.I did some further testing, this adapter is not compatible with PAL region. Works with NTSC only.

Works 100% for N64. Very easy to set up.Some tips:1. Set brightness and contrast to about 50%2. Set colour to warm and about 35%- turn off all ‘processing effects’ like cinema mode, game mode etc. for N64 you want standard picture mode with no processing features switched onMAKE SURE YOU RUN TV AND DEVICE AT 4:3 picture aspect because this is same as original N64 and old TVs.Picture will not be perfect but it is decent!

Initially, the cable did not work. The warranty card supplied with the cable mentions this as a possible problem.I contacted the company directly via email, they responded quickly and sent a brand new cable which works very well. Happy with the outcome, and the cable itself.

Vast improvement on standard hdmi adaptor

Though the item arrived well ahead of its expected delivery, fresh out of the box it doesn't work at all. Plugged into both the TV and an external power source just to be sure, tested on multiple TVs of varying age to rule out that as a hardware issue. Each displayed "No Signal", and although there was sound coming from the TV (note; by sound I mean the singular 'click' noise you used to get when switching the N64 on a CRT TV), there was no signal, leading me to believe despite the seller's claims that this is compatible with both NTSC and PAL N64 consoles, it's probably either only compatible with the former, or it's pot luck on getting a working one from quality control - if such a thing exists for this product.I've messaged the seller via their contact information on their included warranty card, which I should point out lists several potential problems with the adapter (including what I've mentioned above), and offers free replacements. I'm going to give it another shot with a replacement, and then I might change this review. Until then, I can't really say I'm either happy or disappointed by the item, as it didn't work to begin with.

Does what it says on the tin! Found my old N64 in the garage and fancied a walk down memory lane! Plugged in and ready to go! Re living my youth!

I'm not a purist, but this works quite well for what I was looking for. Compared it to using my AV receiver RCA inputs, as well as Gamestop's version of this device ($13.99 as of this writing). In my opinion, it works better than the Gamestop version (Gamestop device only outputs widescreen, which stretches the image, and also appears even more pixelated). Picture quality looked comparable to my AV receiver output, however the added switch on this device allows the image to output the original 4:3 (with black side bars), which is nice (my AV receiver was unable to output the 4:3 format, only stretched widescreen).Understandably, these are retro games, so the game image is going to be pixelated anyway, especially compared to how we remembered the older CRT's with scanlines. I don't have the Nintendo Online versions for comparison, but I imagine those will have slightly better graphics or clean-up polygons by the developer. But it's also nice not having to pay a subscription fee to play. Well worth the $30 (as of this writing) - not sure if I could justify $130, or even several hundred, for the better up-conversion devices out there that can simulate scanlines and crt pixel geometry, or options for pixel smoothing. Possible I'll want to try those later on, but for now I just wanted something to help play my old system on the newer HD TV's, and this seemed to do the trick. Happy gaming!

Cannot believe how well this works. one stop shop for SNES, N64, and GCB. Don't bother with anything else: this is the perfect balance between features and simplicity.
