An interesting guide for learning the nuances of writing
Writing is an art and for a piece of art to be acknowledged and valued, it needs to pass the muster. Peter Yang introduces the readers to the basic nuances of writing that determine if the written material is worth getting the necessary attention. The points are basic and common yet the way he goes on to explain the value of each of them is what makes the difference. The book comprises several principles of writing. To begin with, economy (with respect to the words used) occupies the first place.Writing precise and lucid text often gives an impression that the writer knows his/her mind well and has the ability to express profoundly using the least number of words. Peter emphasizes avoiding repeated thoughts/ phrases or ideas as they tend to cloud the original intent and conviction. It is imperative to focus on the purpose of writing as well because no author wants to leave their audience hanging out to dry just because the text sounds baffling! He also reiterates the principle of using figures of speech and intelligent words to make the writing impactful. Yet there are some points that I couldn’t associate with like the suggestion to stick to one interpretation. Being an author myself, I tend to leave my stories at a cliffhanger quite often. There is an uncanny feeling of accomplishment when you give your readers a chance to hold the paddle of your boat and see where it steers!Nevertheless, the principles of introducing variety and maintaining harmony are quite important. The best part is the conclusion where the author deftly brings out the beauty of making mistakes, for no writer is a perfect one. It is imperative to experiment and fail than to be arrogant about your creation and ignore constructive criticism.Overall, The Art of Writing is one such book that is a little different from what’s already available in the market. The points make sense and are quite applicable. This book should be given a chance as it can help one fine-tune the writing process and the product, of course!

Helpful Guide to Better Writing
As a writer, myself, I'm always attempting to improve. This book sets down four principles of writing in a concise, easy-to-read fashion, and should be on your bookshelf (or Kindle) along with "The Elements of Style," by Strunk and White. The principles are economy, transparency, variety and harmony, and each one is illustrated with examples. Whether you are writing fiction or nonfiction (or fake news), this book will help you to make it more readable, and to gain a wider audience. You will minimize the use of the word "that" and maximize your readability. In today's world not everyone will agree with our opinions, but at least we can state them in a fashion that our opponents will understand. This book will help us do that.

The craft of writing is one of my favourite genres and I loved this book from the very first chapter
The craft of writing is one of my favourite genres and I loved this book from the very first chapter. Over the years I’ve read many books on the subject of writing. Several are memoirs, such as Stephen King’s On Writing, and Annie Dillard’s The Writing Life. Others are motivational, such as Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones, and Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. In contrast, Peter Yang’s The Art of Writing is more specifically directed at showing us how to apply four principles of writing to improve the structure of sentences, paragraphs and most importantly to the whole writing project, be it a book, an article, a blog post, or other categories of writing. For those of us who have learned a lot about writing, this book will enhance what you may already know. For the novice, I say, read this book, it will set you on the right path for all your writing experiences to come.Occasionally I am invited to review a book, by an author, or a publishing house. I only review books I enjoy, usually books I would tag with a GoodReads’ star rating of three or more. It is my custom to read within a narrow range of genres, and I read for pleasure and knowledge. The original book offered to me for review by TCK Publishing did not match with my interests, so I declined their invitation explaining why. A few days later I received an invitation to choose any book from their catalogue — wow! I opened their catalogue; immediately one jumped out at me: The Art of Writing by Peter Yang, a Canadian. It wasn’t long before the publisher emailed a complimentary eBook of The Art of Writing. After reading only a few pages I knew this book would be one I wanted in my Amazon library, along with the matching audiobook — so I purchased them. Some readers may wonder why I would buy the book even though I had one already. It’s because I enjoy my eBooks being in one place, it’s easier to keep track of them, the matching audio gives me the opportunity of continuing my reading at night, and I like to highlight and save passages that speak to me. It’s an extravagant pleasure of mine; some people have boats, I have books.I read the book over a period of two weeks, enjoying a slow read which allowed me to apply Mr Yang’s suggestions to my writing works-in-progress. I wasn’t far into the book before his principles started making a difference to my writing technique. Currently I’m re-building my book blog, Artuccino, and while I’m focussed on correcting links and improving the graphics, I’m editing my blogs. Many of my blogs were written several years ago, and since then I’ve participated in a year’s writing workshop with Joyce Kornblatt, and I believe I’ve matured as a writer; it’s a lifelong process, so I’ve lots more to learn, but my recent improvements have me patting myself on the head.Within The Art of Writing I found so many sections worth highlighting. Originally I’d highlighted sixteen passages, however, not wanting to give away spoilers I trimmed the them down prior to making the highlights public on GoodReads. The book included excellent comparisons and analogies helping emphasise the importance of some techniques and grammar quirks.I think I may have gushed enough over this book and the treasure within. Buy it! Peter Yang’s four principles are logical and easy to follow. Reading this book certainly can’t do your writing any harm.

Overall, an easy read with bite-sized sections.
Overall, an easy read with bite-sized sections.I can’t say that it improved my writing, or maybe I’m not yet ready for it to improve my writing, but I’m glad I read it.I liked the example sentences of each section and I do recommend you read it if you’re a writer.

Not for advanced writing.
It’s a good book. Basic. Very basic. If you’re looking to learn the basics or rudimentary of writing, you can get one or two things from this book. If you’re looking to advanced creative writing approaches, you won’t get it from here.
