One Color a Day Sketchbook: A Daily Art Practice and Visual Diary

Paper too thin
I love the idea behind this sketchbook and was excited to get started. I successfully did my first two days, but the watercolor bled into the other side of the page and ruined next week's color of the day (of course it's a design challenge but that's not the point!). I had used a regular pan set the first day and there was no problem. The second day I'd used my Dr. Ph Martin's Radiant watercolor and the pigment bled through. I was looking forward to using that set specifically because of how radiant it the colors are.Anyway, if you're looking for a fun challenge, I recommend this. Just be careful about how much water you put on the page and what watercolors you choose to use.

lovely idea but paper not suited to watercolor
love the idea for this book and and the artist/author's suggestions, but would have been better at a higher price point with better quality paper that is suited to watercolor.

AWESOME LITTLE JUMP START INSPIRATION
THIS book is a great enticement into playing with watercolor, or whatever you have, to get an understanding on color and color mixing. It's a beautiful little presentation to offer you some play time and it only takes 5 minutes. The author walks you through the basic setup and if you follow her, it's an incredible way to get your mojo going or even playing with supplies you already have ... think possibilities in coloring options -- not just for watercolor. The book is a perfect little portable piece of "take me with you" that allows you to relax from a busy or stressful time.I LOVE IT!!! After my watercolor "circles" are part of my ritual, I can't wait to try it with pastels, crayons, gauche, acrylics, and anything else that is a colorant... So much fun.UPDATE: 01 10 2020: Now that I've been using it for a few days, I have only one suggestion for anyone looking to try this book. DO NOT USE THE BOOK itself for your circles. The paper is NOT made for any kind of wet media and it's rather disappointing to have the page / paper you are painting start to "pill" after just a couple of strokes. I'm going to switch from watercolor to acrylics and see if THAT will work a little better. AND a note -- I AM using a very low-grade watercolor palette which may have something (or everything) to do with this problem. For a beginner I did not buy into a "spendy" watercolor set. SO, if this becomes a fun little 5-minute before bed ritual (I'm optimistic) that I will make my own little booklet with watercolor paper and be able to use it for any medium I want. I'm thinking: one booklet for mini collages; how to draw or doodles, ... endless ideas. Her inspiration pages for each week are still very motivational and fun to follow.

The paper in this book is of very poor quality.
I was very excited about this book. The idea behind it is fun and useful and I started to use it as soon as it arrived. I was unpleasantly surprised when I saw the paper develop what looked like tiny pin pricks all over the surface where the paint was applied. Just to be sure I tried several different watercolor brands (mostly Winsor & Newton) but got the same results. The problem persisted after it dried over night.

Expecting something different
I really wanted to love this journal. It just didn’t keep my interest. This is just my personal opinion and everyone has different interpretations. For me it’s just kind of boring and I could do this in any sketchbook easily. The idea is great but I was expecting a different format entirely when I purchased this.

NOT FOR WATERCOLOR, FUN IDEA BAD FOLLOW THROUGH
I was very excited about this little volume as I've used watercolor most of my life and I thought that this would be a different, new approach, another way to look at color. Even though the book is well made and has plenty of room for color and comments...the pages are NOT watercolor paper!!! The first few spots that I used the paper immediately started to pill (roll up)... I tried many different methods of putting paint to paper, including more water, less water, watercolor pencils, etc. The ONLY method that worked was being very, very delicate with the paper, color and water. Not very conducive to spontaneity! What I did find interesting is that nowhere in or on the book does it say that it is watercolor paper, BUT on the page "How I Began" Cerruti says that she grabbed a "watercolor" journal to start her process...Too, bad that the publisher did not choose to do the same!!! YUCK!!!!

Great concept with room for improvement
I love the concept of this book and the design is pretty. It would be better if the paper were a little thicker or perhaps just more textured. The paper becomes over-saturated with water quickly and often creates specks in the color. The book is smaller than I expected, which makes it very portable, but there are areas that are so close to the fold that it can be a little hard to work with.Gouache, colored pencil and even markers work fine with the paper and overall, I’ve enjoyed using the book despite a couple of drawbacks.

Überflüssig
Einfach nur ein überflüssiges Buch... Man nehme statt dessen einen Aquarellblock und male jeden Tag einen Farbkreis mit den zur Stimmung passenden Farben...
