How to Start and Operate an Elderly Adult Day-Care Center Paperback – January 16, 2006

The title that presumes the book covers everything you need to know about opening an Elder Day Care Center is most assuredly an overstatement, as was the first draft of this review that I am now revising. Before I threw the book in the rubbish, I made one last pass to make sure I hadn't misjudged. And I had. At first examination, it appears that the topic of Adult Day-Care Centers is only mentioned on the first four pages. I was wrong, so I've upgraded my review from one star to two stars. The text is actually quite well written, despite the excessive number of typographical errors, at least one glaringly evident in a bold title.If someone has never owned a business, the list of all the various agencies and government entities that you will have to deal with is useful information. Having operated my own small business for 15 years before I embarked upon the exhausting adventure of retirement, 99% of the information provided was extraneous for me.My community does not have an adult day care facility and it needs one. It was to help my friends and community that I decided to explore what it would take to get one going. For openers, I am interested in staffing requirements, typical programs, physical plant, and grant sources. This book verified that these are things I need to look into, but did not provide details or even point me in any direction. In short, I didn't find anything here that I didn't already know. The most useful advice is on page 1: "If you have no experience with this type of business, you should visit at least three adult day care centers." Since there are none within the reach of the local bus service, I've decided that I'll begin by speaking with the director of my local Senior Center. She has been in charge of expelling people who don't meet the requirements of being an "active senior." Hopefully, she can inform me of any past or present efforts to meet the needs of those spurned by or ejected from our center for active seniors.

Easy to read. A great guide.

This book contain common sense these that everyone should know. I did not receive any new information that cannot be found by doing a simply internet search.

It was not definitive enough, TOO VAGUE. I am always looking for concrete information. This book fell short in giving clear directions and resources.
