Innovative Marine Skim Mate Ghost Protein Skimmer - Desktop

I use this skimmer on a Fusion 20 by IM. So this skimmer was designed for this line of tanks.While my experience did not start out great. Once the problem was solved this skimmer is great. Currently it pulls a full skim cup of dark brown stinky gunk out over 3-5 days. I don't think this skimmer will ever pull out a really dry skim but it does a really good job for its size.My problem was micro bubbles. I tried all the fixes I could fine online. Filter floss (which I didn't want to use, but was willing to try), changing water levels in the pump chamber, vinegar bath, and break in time. None of this seemed to do much.I had removed the filter socks from overflows. 1 side to install a heater and the other side I was running a floss in a modified basket. I was getting different flow rates in each over flow. I think the side with the skimmer in the 2nd chamber was washing through to quick and taking bubbles with it. Once I moved my media around and evened out the flow rates (even slowing down the skimmer side) bubbles were gone. Water is clean and clear and I am getting great skim.I did contact IM directly for help. They did get back with quickly with suggestions to try. I was able to fix it myself prior to them calling me back a second time. But they were willing to call me instead of trying to email back and forth. So props to IM.

IM needs a re-design on this one. The unit I received was leaking air around where the air control pushes into the body -- ended up having to silicone this in place. The air control is super-sensitive and even just cleaning the container cause you to have to adjust the unit. Basically, I have to adjust it every single day and it tends to create tons and tons of micro bubbles. It's not worth the money in my opinion.[1 year update]I *really* wanted to like this product since it fits in my Nano Fusion 10 perfectly.Unfortunately, it is the worst designed skimmer I have ever used. It takes about a week of making micro adjustments to the air mix to get it so that it will skim anything without filling the tank with micro bubbles. If you empty or clean the cup, that week starts over. When the cup starts getting skimmate in it it needs further adjustment. If the cup gets any build up it needs further adjustment. You get the picture I think :)If you have literally hours per week to adjust your skimmer constantly, maybe this will work for you - I need something that works a bit better.After 1 year of trying to not have wasted $130, I will be buying a different skimmer.

After a month I gave up on trying to control microbubbles coming from this unit. I also started receiving an electrical shock in the tank water until this was removed so I left it out. You are better off getting a unit like reef octopus to run in line with a canaster filter. I could only get this unit to wet skim and it overflowed each morning back into the 20 nano tank. No matter the air sitting or the elevation if catch cup I had the same overflow situation. Air settings are very difficult to make. Some say you are better off opening wide open then adjusting downward. I tried everything, read the manual, watched the videos but still had microbubbles in the tank and out of control over skimming. The electrical shock was the nail in the coffin for this product. It needs to be thrown in the James River three times and retreived twice. I am stuck with this unit.

I purchased the IM ghost protein skimmer for my IM 20 gal aquarium. It's does fit perfectly but instructions are lacking and it's loud. I can hear it from the other side of a 20ft room. I am also getting entirely way too much micro bubbles closing my otherwise crystal clear water. I'm looking at alternative nano skimmers to replace this unit.

I got this skimmer for my Nuvo 16 gallon. It does the job pretty good I find myself cleaning it out every few days. My only issue is personally I don't want to see the extra bubbles from my skimmer enter into the tank. Not as easy to do in Nano tanks. I found a thin sponge pre-filter and wedged it where the water comes out of the skimmer back into the tank. This has made my water very clear and hasnt changed anything with the skimmer.Works great so far. Going on 3 months.

At first, the skimmer made a ton of bubbles. But I called the manufacturer and they told me to let it be, and make sure the water is having a cascading effect on the back chambers.So, once I stopped messing with aquarium chemistry, made sure all levels were consistent, stopped doing so many water changes, the bubbles stopped in a week. The only times bubbles kick up again is if I do a water change. Which I don't do anymore (I get DARK BROWN SKIM). I keep all my trace elements in check by dosing. I dose amino acids, two part, and mag.So, overall if you are having issues with this skimmer.. just let it be. I tried adding a sponge to prevent the bubbles, but the skimmate wasn't as dark.My thoughts:Skimmer is designed very wellIt is not loud once it breaks in and you stop messing with itFollow the instructions and you will be satisfiedVery sleekDoes its job.

This has to be the worst Skimmer that I have ever owned. Would not Skim, Air Valve would not do anything, its like it was just there for looks. Horrible design. I have never saw a skimmer that wouldnt produce foam. Over Priced Junk! Stay away. Nuvo Stop making 10 gallon Fusion tanks so small in the rear chamber forcing us to buy this kind of junk. I will be replacing this with the Tunze 9001. I will have to cut and adjust the rear chambers of my 10 gallon Nuvo Fusion but its worth it to have a good running skimmer.

Noisy and didn't do much for for the first couple of weeks, then just come home to no noise and foaming perfectly. It needs time to break in but once it does it runs like a dream.

Beau produit en pvc et ce cache facilement à l arrière du nuvo fusion marine 10. D un point de vue esthétique rien à redire par contre je trouve qu il est légèrement bruyant à mon goût.

Worst skimmer ever I have, noisy , foam poor quality,

my skimmer still new 10 days old, very noisy . I ran it in distilled vinegar as some advised by some to speed up break in time, but I am getting only very watery minimal skimmate. the pump sounds like a tractor in my living room.Update: after 4 months of noise torture I replaced the innovative marine very noisy and ineffective skimmer pump with a Chinese red devil skimmer pump. I needed some DIY to do this, but what a pleasant difference. straight away excellent skimming and dead silent.

I didn't receive a ghost skimmer I received a skim mate so wasn't happy
