I have long hair, just past the middle of my back. Would I need two of these?

I have the same length as you and alot of hair so i usually buy two just to be safe because i apply on all of my hair. If you are only going to apply to bleached sections one will do.

Does hair have to be dry for application--or is it applied to damp hair after shampooing? Thanks.

Hi! I prefer applying it to dry hair after shampooing (no conditioner) for 2 reasons. 1. Dry hair allows me to saturate the hair strands with dye, cos I feel like water hampers absorption. 2. Applying it after shampooing ensures that there is no dirt/oils that will prevent the hair cuticles from absorbing the dye. Good luck!

Can you use purple on auburn hair?

If it’s virgin hair, you’ll get a little but if a tint, but that’s about it. If you want more dramatic results, pre-lighten a shade or two. You can safely lighten all over by doing a shampoo cap.

If you have brown hair and want Black hair, do you need to bleach it first?

No. if you want an undertone you don't already have, it can turn out better if you bleach first. But generally no. If you want a blue undertone and have reddish brown hair, I'd bleach it.
