What is the difference between this and mini-click model?

This model has an instant shut off when it starts raining - the mini clik will only go off when the pre-set level has been achieved

Will the rain-clik be compatable with my rainbird controller?

Yes - if the controller doesn't have a rain sensor port, you can wire the Rain Clik to the common valve wire. It will work just fine.

can I just buy the sensor, I don't need the mounting hardware?

I guess you can, if you can find someplace that sells it in pieces...

Do these sensors still use the old technology of cork type floats to shut of sensor?

The one I installed 2 years ago has a series of disks , 4-5 stacked vertically , may be made of cork don't know but the sensor works great.
