Still using for almost 2 years with ZERO issues. Clean the pump people!
TLDR: I like it, pets love it, easy to clean/assemble, never has failed, wish base was larger. 100 oz capacity is nice. And CLEAN THE PUMP. Thought I'd give this a review as I stumbled back across it. June 21, 2019 was when I purchased this item. At the time of writing this review, it is Feb 5, 2021. I've had this item and still using the same one since day 1. My fur-children consists of 3 dogs, and a cat. They are a 65# pitbull, a 53# dachshund/boxer/german shep mix, a 3 month border collie, and a 20# cat. They all use this fountain with no issues. The cat and puppy loves it. There was about a 4+ month period where my wife bought a separate smaller fountain for her cat, thinking he would use it instead and let the dogs be. We used that for a while, and I put mine into storage. The cleaning was about the same time length, held 50oz less water, and the pump clogged more often. We said eff it once her filters ran out and I bought another 12 filters for this one. All of our fur children uses this fountain just fine. Between the 4 of them, we top this off once to twice a day. We have a 50oz Tropicana bottle that sits next to it to assist us with refilling this thing. The cat likes this one a better due to the waterfall effect compared to the previous fountain. I've never experienced a case where the pump stopped working because I clean it at the beginning of each month and I replace the filter at that time, but I do give it a quick rince when I see debris at the bottom in between my cleanings. A box of 12 filters lasts me at least a year. For my routine cleaning, I just run the pump under the sink on the inlet and outlet side for several seconds a few times. I'll do this with that plastic intake cover off. I dont remember, but I think I've only removed the impeller once for a super deep cleaning. I always clean using a sponge and the bottle brush cleaner. I've scraped/cut myself on the plastic edges where the pump sits when I wasn't paying attention, so i use the bottle brush cleaner for the bottom. For the tube where the water gets pumped up, i use the straw brush cleaner. The little cap at the very top is also removable. This is what I do and has worked for me without fail. I also add plaque/tarter water additive in this and everything still works just fine. If you add *way* too much, many cause bubbles/foam from the fountain effect. What I like/do/pros -great community tank -cat and pupper loves the water fall and will drink from it -easy to clean. I spend about 10-15 min to clean this (some may consider this a con?) -easier to disassemble, due to a small broken tab. Read con -filter lasts a month or so -never has failed me -I like how theres a power cord separator from the wall. Makes it easy to disconnect and clean the unit. What I don't like/cons -I wish the base was larger, my main and only complaint. I may 3d print a larger base if i get a larger dog -a little plastic tab that holds the upper and lower pieces snapped off when i removed/separate it one time near the vertical vents. But it does make it easier to separate for cleaning. This may be considered a pro. -use caution when cleaning, may cut yourself on plastic edges that "guard/house" the pump -i wish the part of the power cord seperator was closer to the fountain side/ or longer on the base side. I have it plugged in behind a fish tank, so it's a bit of a reach for my wife, but that's just our situation. But i do 99% of the cleaning anyways when it comes to cleaning the dog fountain and fish tank pumps 🤣🤣

Drinkwell Multi-Tier Pet Fountain
In the scope of all purchase decisions ever made in my lifetime, this PetSafe Drinkwell fountain for my cats would rank in the top 10, I think. I was given this model of fountain a decade ago as a Christmas gift and have been loyal to this fountain ever since. The fountain is easy to assemble. There are just four parts. The fountain itself comes in two parts, then there's the water pump and the filter. I've found that the filters last around 4 to 6 weeks and are pretty affordable in the scope of filter product prices. The water here in our condo has a little bit of an orange tint somedays. The pipes are older and need to be changed out eventually. I filter all of the water my husband and I cook with and drink. I just want my cats to have the same opportunity for better water, so the fountain makes perfect sense. My male cat has issues with constipation (he takes a medication to help with this twice a day). It's imperative that he drinks to help ease the constipation. He doesn't like a stagnant water bowl. However, he does like the fountain and really will drink from the part of the fountain where the water comes up. I don't have anything negative to say. The water pump is super easy to clean, it comes apart. The grey color is a little boring, but I would rather have functionality and cat approval over cuteness. I would purchase this item again if needed and I would recommend this item to my family.

Very awesome products with minor hiccups- but still worth it!
I've been wanting to switch to a filtered fountain for my cats for a while. I have 2 cats and foster so I really want to encourage them to stay hydrated and healthy (especially since we live in AZ). So after much research I finally settled on this guy and I have to say it's pretty much everything I wanted. Very nice product that has been working extremely well and my cats love it. I'll break it down to the pros and cons: Pros: -very good looking fountain. It looks nice and isnt overly obnoxious in the design. -very easily to clean. Buy a pipe cleaner, small brush or tooth brush and cleaning it takes MAYBE 10 minutes. -encourages cats to play and drink with more water! Keeps the kiddos hydrated and happy. -the filters are super easy to replace and coupled with my Amazon subscribe, I always have a filter when I need it. -when full (keyword being full) you wont even know it's there it's so quiet. All you can hear of the soft sound of water and it's great. Cons: -i find myself having to top it off with water constantly. I'm not sure if that's because the cata are just drinking so much or where the water goes but after a few days I will have to top it off. -when it reaches about halfway empty the noice level becomes substantial. You can definitely hear the little pump and gurgle or water that goes do away when you refill but it can get pretty loud and annoying. There are times when even when it's full its makes noise but that usually means it's time to clean the fountain. - maintaining it can be a con for some. For the fountain to be at it's best the manual says to clean and replace the filter one a month (which is actually what I do). I have no problem with it but it does require more handling and plus money for the filters. You can probably clean and replace the filter less but it gets pretty dirty so I wouldnt. All in all I think personally the cons arent to bad. Definitely has its quirks but I dont regret getting it at all. I'm glad I got rid of our static gravity water jug thing and got them this. I've been using it for about 6 months now and still love it. If anyone else asked I would definitely reccomend but would make you away of the cons for sure. Hence my 4 stars. Almost perfect! 😻

Great product, save an old toothbrush or pipe cleaner to clean it well
The cat kept trying to drink out of our sinks (probably because I forget to fill his old bowl) so I got him this. It works well, I like the filter option. Been using it over a month. It's not loud to me. It sounds exactly like my fish tank filter running. If you need quiter then stick with just a stagnant bowl as let's be honest here, you need silence. I've cleaned it twice, the first time I left some soap in it accidently so don't do that. The power cord is 68" from the very back of the bowl where it comes out to the bottom of the power plug. I know, you think it's weird I mention that but I didn't think about where the water dish used to be. It wasn't close enough to an outlet so the cat got relo'ed. Two things: 1) When you clean it you'll really need a toothbrush like device to get around the top dish groove that runs around the outside, as well as around the sides where the removable pump goes. Its not hard, I just mention it because I threw out a toothbrush a few days ago without thinking about needing to clean this. If you don't clean in this groove, or lift the suction of the motor out to clean under that, you will have some soap residue and your cat will be right back in your sink. It's pretty idiot proof for (re)assembly. The motor only fits one way. The top only fits one way. The little cover where the water comes up is easy to remove to clean in there and replace the cap one way. Except for one thing, 2) Replacement filters. Guess who doesn't pay attention if the old filter had the black or white side facing the motor? This guy. Do yourself a favor and sharpie on the back of the bowl as soon as you get it "black side of filter faces black motor". There. Because this filter is used in multiple models the printed instructions direct you online for the direction to put the new filter in. With the marker you've saved yourself time and frustration googling which way the replacement filters go into the machine. You're welcome future or past self, depending on which you identify with. All in all this is a solid purchase so far. I refill it once a week to avoid the water level dropping and burning out the motor. Depends on your pet(s) and climate of course. My cats not a spaz so I can fill the bottom bowl darn near the top. I can't speak for yours. They might be a spaz. But that's probably cool and you have lots of wacky pictures. I have a reminder in my phone every Wednesday to fill up the water. So there you have it. Cats happy and out of the sink. There's enough water to last a Vegas weekend (or more). Replacement filters are cheap enough. A quick clean once (or more-ish) a month and you're on to more productive and fun things in life. As a bonus the cat stays alive, and that's why we're really here, right?

Overpriced for what you get
Update: I purchased two of these. With regular cleaning and always keeping it filled, the first lasted 18-20 months and the second lasted less than a year. Had to replace the pump at least once for each, so basically that’s 3 fountains in under 3 years. ———————— My cat loves this. I had to buy new filters almost immediately. They weren’t super expensive, but it’s an ongoing expense. Yes, there’s some black residue from the carbon after you change the filter. It’s ugly, but meh. My real complaint is what a pain this is to clean. The people who say it’s easy aren’t doing it very thoroughly, I think. The pump comes apart, and the main housing can only be cleaned by soaking—I do white vinegar and hot water for a few hours while I’m running the rest of it through the dishwasher. And EVERY SINGLE TIME I break it down for cleaning, I have to fight to get the top water well off the bottom one. It’s a silly first world complaint, but I put it on the shelf for about a month and the cat has been drinking stationary water just fine. I’ve been washing it weekly and the cat LOVES watching me refill it after it’s been reassembled. Would get one star back if the filters were cheaper; would get both stars back if it was easy to clean. It’s kinda noisy, but 1) I like the white noise and 2) it’s intermittent, so not too bad. I can hear it from my bedroom, without a direct line of sight to the room where it lives. Probably a distance of 45 feet or so, plus two corners.

Woohoo! Nailed it!
I like this fountain a lot. Especially more with our set up that I left pic and video of to give others ideas just like a couple other reviewers did that helped me- thank you! I put a plant in the center to cover the black plug and wire running up to the outlet that I already had on hand that added a nice touch, and together, seemed like we just had a fountain display in the house. So zen lol! The feeding mats are Target :) It's not super huge or loud. As others said, if you have very laarge dogs or multiples, you will just need to add water more frequently but it does have a decent fill capacity. I bought for our dog that does not drink water much and I worry about her in the AZ heat, and honestly, don't think it has helped much but my husband said he hears her drinking from it at night. Who knows? I may have to try something else. We have an incoming puppy arriving soon who I hope will take a liking to this. Will update with results. I bought because I like the idea of moving water and it does stay cleaner than a water dish for sure but I did notice a film despite our dogs lack of drinking so something I will definitely have to clean every week. The crevices does make it more difficult to clean at the top of the fountain but i will find a brush to clean in the hard to reach areas. Toothbrush may even work?? I was tempted to buy one of the more expensive and esthetically pleasing models but not certain how my dogs would like it and with a few added touches, it was totally unnecessary. In fact, I like the idea that this will be harder to break than what I saw other reviewers said about the ceramic editions. For the price this was a good deal and way cheaper here on Amazon. Whoohoo! Update: Puppy loves and uses it. Not sure my other dog has increasingly used it though. :/ It cleans easily with a normal scotch brite sponge you can fit in the top crevices pretty easily. I definitely clean once a week and break down pump and all. You really have to or it will get gross. Overall do like having this and do recommend.

My kitty loves it
My cat started acting differently for a couple of weeks and stopped peeing almost entirely. After 8+ hours at the vet the verdict was that my cat was mildly dehyrdrated, causing a shift in her behavior and attitude towards me. Knowing that she used to love drinking from the faucet, I bought the fountain hoping it would encourage her to play in the water a bit and get her drinking a little more. It's worked; she drinks a lot from it every day, and she's doing a lot better physically and temperamentally. It's pretty easy to keep clean; about once a week I unplug it, dump it out, scrub it down, rinse, and refill with water, and throughout the week I just dump more water in for her. The motor is really quiet unless the water is low, it's not hard to keep it clean; my one complaint is that I have trouble taking the fountain apart, as the top piece doesn't want to come off of the bottom. EDIT, 7/4/2018. I've had this fountain for almost a year now. I thought I should update my review! First things first, it did at one point stop working, because I hadn't realized the pump came apart for cleaning. It is VITAL that you clean the pump every week, or scum builds up in each part of it and ceases the movement of the propeller. I took the pump apart piece by piece, cleaned it thoroughly, and got it working again. If your pump has stopped working after months of use, try this first. Second, I've realized it is a bit of a pain to clean without special tools. Scum builds up in every corner where there's a sharp edge to cling to. So make sure you're scrubbing it really well, once or twice a week, so your pets aren't drinking it. Third, my cat still loves it. She's so picky, she won't drink from anything else now. She's doing much better these days. Overall, I still think it's a good fountain and works well for a small animal. I've recommended it to friends and I would again. Just make sure you're taking care of it.

Recommend fountain
It took me a lot of research before I finally settled on this fountain. I have a medium sized dog & 4 cats. With multiple water bowls all over the house I couldn't keep track of who was drinking & refilling was a chore. When I got this fountain it was very easy to put together (2 pieces & the motor). As soon as the motor started humming & the water started flowing the cats were immediately intrigued. I've noticed all the cats drink a lot more & enjoy the fresh water. I enjoy the sound of the trickle of water! Its calming to me. Cleaning isn't bad. I wash mine weekly because after 2 weeks hair started blocking the vent & it got gooey. It works best to use a toothbrush for tight corners & motor compartment. Hot soapy water, light scrubbing, a hot rinse, & you're done. It's gross how much hair gets trapped by the filter! I recommend this fountain for the price & functionality of it. My cats love it & it's easy to maintain. I do have to top off the water daily (the dog loves it too), but it's easier than maintaining multiple bowls. I've had mine about 2 months & have no issues. I hope it lasts a long time. Edit: After having this fountain for a year it's still going strong. I did have to get a new motor after about 6 months. It started to make a lot of noise & the humming was annoying. It was clean & the filter was new. I contacted Drinkwell customer service & they recommended a new motor. They sent it to me at no charge & I've had no problems since.

Best fountain for cats- EVER!
**I bought it in March 2023 and am reviewing it now after 3.5 months of continuous use.** I’ve had cats my whole life, I have bought a lot of fountains over the years. I currently have three cats (two are 1 year, 10 months and youngest is just 1 year) and they all LOVE this fountain. The two tier design is brilliant, they can all drink at the same time if they want, there’s option of drinking from the “pools” or from the stream trickling down from top to bottom. It’s the quietest fountain motor of all I’ve ever owned (you still hear trickling water sounds) and all three cats began using it right away. You can keep the water level pretty high so very little whisker sensitivity issues for the cats. I’ve cleaned it once in the 3.5 months of use and changed the filter once. I have all DSH cats so I think if you had medium or long haired cats you’d have to do this more often, likely every month. Taking apart and cleaning is sooooo easy and fast. I hand wash all parts in hot water. I bought replacement 3 pack of filters at my local pet store cheaper than offered for sale on this platform. I also wrote on the back of the fountain in sharpie a little reminder (see pic) of which way the filter goes back in as it’s easy to pull it out of the fountain and forget which way was which. Highly recommend this fountain for cats.

Highly recommend
We have had this filter for about 5 months now and have not needed to change the filter. We remove the cat hair as it builds up, but we also use already filtered water - we run the water through out Brita first (that we drink from), then we just pour that into their fountain. This also helps keep it clean so that you don't need to replace the filter as often. Both our dog and cats love watching the water and they drink from both levels. It makes an air-like noise when it's running low so you know to refill the water.
