Great small backpack, daypack for traveling
Just received my backpack in the mail and I love it. Perfect size, like an slightly oversized handbag, not a big clunky backpack at all. Looks like the soft shape will hold a lot. I bought it to use on vacation, for cameras, books, my small purse, money, etc. Nice pockets inside, nice zipper pocket on the outside. To address the negative comments some made, the printed info clearly shows that the entire bottom and front of the backpack has the metal mesh protection. Not just bottom. The hook on the zipped pocket on front and the zipper (with two tabs) on top, do have a bit of hidden elastic used to sew it in place. This appears to be a necessary design feature because the angle of the zippers makes it hard to snap the safety hook on unless it is a bit flexible. It would be impossible to fasten it if the elastic was a woven tab instead. One of the straps has the locking feature that allows fastening the bag to an object of almost any size. It is a solid metal buckle that snaps onto a locking snap, also metal. Takes 30 seconds to figure out how to work this, snap has little collar marked "locked" "unlocked" and that has to be turned to line up its slot with the thumb snap. I think because of the wide angle and no need for hook flexibility, the snap is fastened with heavy woven material. Quite sturdy and I look forward to using this and being able to keep my bag safe without having to keep it on my lap when I eat!All sewing is double and tripled, often with an additional rectangular or square shape of stitching next to it, with an additional X sew into rectangle or square. All straps have matching binding on all edges, again, nicely sewn, and all buckles are heavy and solid. The side pockets are two different sizes, and go all the way to bottom of bag. Easily fits a big water bottle and an umbrella with nothing falling out. Front zip pocket on front of backpack is again, flexible and soft so you could really stuff it. Two pockets, pens and cell phone, and maybe small camera will fit here nicely. Lots of room so more can easily go in here. Fun lining. The color of backpack is a silvery black, very nice soft material, but crinkly or stiff like cheap polyester. Inside lining is a fun sage green with blue and cream dots. Easy to see contents. RFID pocket is super wide. Looks like it is 6"x6" with slightly smaller pocket next to it. Underneath the twopockets is a long pocket, width of the backpack, padded for tablets. If no tablet is carried, it looks like a dandy pocket for holding anything from guidebook to wallet etc. Some backpacks are very fitted, and stiff, so packing them full would be a problem. Especially those made for carrying tablets. This one is wide, deep, with flexible sides so I think it will easily hold anything I can think to put in it as a day pack on vacation. Usually I carry a small crossbody handbag and a tote for all my souvenirs, guidebooks, cameras etc. I can see using only this on my next vacation.Overall, this backpack exceeded my expectations. Beautifully made, nicely sewn, well designed, not too big or small, it looks like I am going to enjoy using this on my next vacation.

Perfect little backpack....
This is the perfect daypack for vactioning! It fits ALL your essentials safely and comfortably. It's a very clean, neutral design so I feel confident taking it anywhere without feeling like a student. The fabric is water resistant and all the safety features make this a must have for any trip.It comfortably fits a water bottle and umbrella in the exterior pockets. In the front pocket I put my personal hygiene items: glasses, sunglasses, extra contacts and solution, chapstick, sunscreen, toilet paper/tissue (a must for Asia), bug spray, hand sanitzer, my Tide To-Go stick, paw paw ointment, toothbrush/floss/toothpaste, a comb and dry soap sheets.IE ANYTHING you'd need during the day. (Some of these I will instead carry in my purse, see below, but they DO fit in this pocket). In the big pocket I carry my DSLR in an oversized camera cozy. An extra lens in an oversized camera cozy. A pashmina scarf (you never know when you'll need coverage from the sun, the cold or for entering holy places). My iPod touch (does the same things as an iPad only they're smaller and lighter). Headphones. A Moleskine and 2 pens. And there's room for my jacket, snacks and souvenirs!I carry a Travelon Anti-Theft Signature Slim Pouch along with this pack. It keeps my passport, ID, money, etc. securely on my front left hip. I left a review for those too. To me these two items go hand in hand and I can't imagine traveling without them!

This is a good sturdy bag
This is a good sturdy bag. I thought it would be a little bigger based on the pics and other things I had read about it on other sites. It holds most of the things I will need for a carry on bag. I cannot fit my air plane pillow and travel blanket into this so thats my one criticism. Yes, I could get a bigger backpack but I dont want to deal with it being to big for TSA. But it seems sturdy, many pockets and good zippers. Once I use it on my trip, I will probably have a better idea but upon first review, I like it.

Inadequate
I'm sending this back without using it. Here's why:1. "Narrow at the top" opening very inconvenient for loading large articles.2. Steel mesh only extends half-way up the bag -- a thief could easily slash anywhere on the top half of the bag, including the top of the bag, and help himself to my stuff.3. Exposed lobster-claw zipper-holds are easy for a pick-pocket to loosen... ironically, it's not so easy for you to feed the zipper holes onto the spring-loaded claw. (I.e., they are hard to use.) You could put a little lock to connect the top zipper pulls together, but the thief can still cut through the bag, and there is no way to lock the small zipper... thief can easily pull on it, slice the elastic holding the lobster-claw catch to the bag, and grab the goodies.4. No chest or waist strap. I consider this a security concern because it makes it much easier for the thief to get the bag off you in a drive-by or knock-over.5. Bag loop at top of bag too small to fit hand into.6. Soft plastic zippers... very easy to cut right through them or just yank them open. Wouldn't want to wear this on a crowded Italian bus or subway.7. In order to make the straps adjustable, the tougher material used for the shoulder straps ends under the padded area, where a foot of thinner, un-reinforced length of nylon webbing continues up the bag and through the looseners. The padded part could have had wire in it, but doesn't. All the thief has to do is grab the loose end of the webbing and cut through it, just below the loosener. So the "protection" is dangerously illusory... this is no strong box.
