Knitbone Pepper Ghost Dog and the Last Circus Tiger

Second Book in a Wonderful Series
In this the second book of a wonderful series, we meet again Winnie Pepper and the Beloveds, the ghosts of the animals who had been special to previous occupants of Starcross Hall and in particular Knitbone Pepper, ghost dog and Winnie's own Beloved. Just as in the first book in the series, the clever story mixes laugh out loud humour and dazzling use of language with poignant touches, as befitting a story dealing with the loss of a beloved animal friend. In these books, Claire Barker has created a superb cast of characters who stay with the reader long after the book is finished, because, just like the Beloveds themselves, true friends never leave us.

Fantastic series
This is the second book in the Knitbone series and is a fantastic read. My seven year old daughter is totally gripped by the story, which manages to be both hilarious and poignant at the same time. The characters are wonderful - we particularly like the eccentric Lord and Lady Pepper, and Orlanda the cheeky monkey.Although this is a book for young children I have enjoyed reading this as much as my daughter has. We read a lot of books together and Knitbone is one of our absolute favourites - we’ve been recommending it to everyone!

Three Cheets for Claire Barker
Excellent reading for DD 8, lovely characters, flowing text, beautiful drawings. Have all three books in the set now and eagerly wait for more to be written!

Hats Off To Starcross (and Claire Barker)
A wonderful book that makes my daughter laugh out loud (we love Orlando the Elizabethan monkey and his tendencies towards stealing spoons). Beautifully illustrated and Claire Barker's writing is bright, funny and engaging with well-drawn characters.

Enjoying this even more on second reading with my 8-yr-old daughter. She could read it herself but is enjoying having it read as a bedtime story. It’s funny, heart-warming & has lovely illustrations
