If I were looking for "straight-up" combat boot, these would be perfect...
I actually really love these boots. The material is quality, they're comfortable, the fit is good. They're not heavy at all, even though they look like they would be. This color is a really great reddish brown, and they'd look good with dresses and leggings or jeans.Sadly, I'm returning them because they're not what I wanted. I was looking for something a little more delicate. I was after something more Victorian England than government issue. As I meantioned, I do really like them, but for almost $90, they needed to be exactly what I wanted. Also, I noticed in another review that the reviewer questioned whether or not these are actually Steve Maddens. I think they are, but there is some confusion. A search on the Steve Madden website turns up the "Troopa 2-0", on the Macy's website, they're listed as the "Tropa 2.0". The listing here is for the TrOOpa, but the inside of the boot itself says TrOpa, but the box says TrOOpa. That is a little weird, and could lead someone to believe they're counterfeit. I think it's probably just a mistake somewhere in the manufacturing/marketing chain, though.

My first pair of combat boots! They are so classy and comfortable!
These are my favorite boots. The shine is really nice and some of the layers in the sole are real leather. The part that touches the ground is rubber or something else, but really well made. So they hold their shape very nicely and are just very comfortable. They have some arch support, but not a lot. I could easily see wearing all day, either dressing up or down. I have had so, so many compliments. It's easy to look classy and retro with these boots. They are well made and I expect them to last for years. I had doubts that the side zipper would work out and cause problems, but it's actually really a clever move. I can get in and out of the boots and there is no rubbing of the zipper on my skin. I'm telling you, these are really fantastic boots. I liked them so much that I bought another pair in brown, with the rear zip. But these are my favorites. When I have a tough day of things to take care of at work, these put my mind in the right frame to get the task complete and done well!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE BOOTS
i LOVE these boots! the quality is sooooooo nice. i always wear a sz 8 so i decided to order 8's even though i heard they run large - i thought i'd wear socks if they were too roomy. but when they arrived, they were VERY long and so i returned them and amazon promptly sent me a 7.5 which are perfect - i wear them with thin (-ish) socks and they are fine. i have a narrow foot and they fit great, i think a wide foot would need a size up. i love everything about this boot. i will wear them for years. they are very well made, love the cognac color, nice soles for colorado weather, can lace all the way up or just part way. perfect to wear over skinny jeans or under boot cut. perfect for dress and tights. perfect for everything!

Love-Hate These Boots!
I have a love-hate relationship with these boots! What I love: The style is great (goes with lots of outfits), the quality is good (smooth leather, the ankle shaft & tongue is soft/flexible), thicker sole, and great color (the wine is like a deep burgundy). What I hate: The shoes are narrow. I even ordered 1/2 size up and its still narrow across the ball of my foot. This contributes to rubbing against my pinkie toe. The left boot rubs against the back of my heel, but the right boot doesn't. The thick sole is great, but it is not cushiony, so its very "hard" when I walk. The toe and heal are a stiff leather, which is not flexible and leads to some rubbing against my feet. The laces are slightly short, they could have added another inch or two to them. They need to be broken in - they are not super comfortable out of the box.Overall: My love of the style has over ruled my comfort so I'm breaking them in. I added an insole which has helped some and I'm hoping the rubbing will be reduced in time. These boots are probably best for narrow feet, if you have wider feet I suggest ordering a 1/2 size up.

best boots ever....at first
UPDATE: After less than 4 months of wearing these boots to my desk job, where I do not where in inclement weather and do not walk far in them either. The tread has worn down significantly as pictured. The heels have a leather stripe around the edge that is falling apart as pictured. They also leave scuff marks on the floor...everywhere!!! Not as well made as originally thought, but are still super comfy. I am thinking about getting them re-soled to salvage them seeing how they are still pretty new.True to size. I wear combat boots for a living and by far these have been the most comfortable right out of the box. They did not require to be "broken in" at all! They are very light and the soles are not too hard either (it allows for quieter steps). Seems to be good workmanship and good quality materials. I would highly recommend.

Love these boots!
Very comfortable, almost no break-in period required. They fit perfectly right out of the box. I've been looking for a good pair of leather boots for a while but didn't want to pay $250+, and I'm so happy I found these!

Leather side-zip combat style boots
I absolutely love combat style boots. I like that these are laced up boots, but also have a side zipper to make it easier to put these boots on and off. These also have good grips for wearing in the Winter. These are my go-to boots.

A little tight
Beautiful boots and they do fit true to size. If you have a wide foot they will be tight. When they first arrived I considered sending back for a 1/2 size larger, but I think there is a real potential for them being too big if you go with that option and the reason why is because the ankle does already have some wiggle room. Rather than exchange what I chose to do was apply a little "Foot Matters Professional Shoe Stretch" spray. It is available here on Amazon for about $10. Just spray and wear. It will stretch the leather just the right amount to fit comfortably to your foot. You can test the spray on the tongue of the boot if you are concerned, but I can attest that it did not discolor at all when I used it. Very happy I decided to go with these boots and not a cheaper similar looking brand. They are well made and should last for years (fingers crossed). They have a slightly higher heel that just gives a more feminine appearance without it being uncomfortable at all. Zippers are very smooth and strong. I would recommend.

True to size and absolutely perfect 🥰
I wear size 8 and I ordered a size 8. I have an average sized foot in terms of its width and thickness. So the boot was absolutely perfect fit for me. However if you have a wide foot or a thick foot this will be a tight fit. I live in Québec, Canada and these were perfect for our fall weather. They don't have any lining so I don't recommend wearing them for temperatures below 5 °c. It's possible to wear wool socks with in the Boot but that makes them much tighter and is restricting.

Are they real or fake?
These boots arrived earlier than expected. They appear to be very good quality however, the label inside reads TROPA not TROOPA which leads me to wonder whether they are, in fact, the genuine article. Perhaps the seller could contact me to tell me why the label inside is mis-spelt.
