Nice bookcase for home or office
Item arrived well-packaged and complete with decent instructions on assembly. The finish on this bookcase, especially on the top and sides, is very nice. Seems like a better grade of wood and composite was used than in most small furniture kits. When assembling I added clear all-purpose glue to all connection points and connecting hardware to give additional future resilience. When attaching the top to the rest of the shelf, flip the whole thing upside and have someone push from above so those cam-locks grab and hold correctly - be certain they do, otherwise the top is not fully connected. Again, carefully adding some glue between the top and sides helps hold everything more securely. Overall I am pleased with this product. Didn’t take a lot of effort to put together. Seems very solid. I really like the decorative crossbar. Be sure to follow the assembly instructions carefully and you will have a nice bookcase for your home or office.

Great astetic, nice finish & terrific value
Love this bookshelf! My daughter put it together in 30 minutes. I had read mixed reviews before ordering. I find it to be attractive, wood is smooth and finish is nice. Great value for $’s spent. It smells funky, but the odor will dissipate with time out of it’s box. Was packed well with all parts included to assemble. Sturdiness is adequate for my needs. If you twist it, it gives a bit, not bad for an assembly product.

Great Bookshelf, kinda stinky!
This is a cute little bookshelf! It was bigger than we thought, probably due to just rough estimating the measurements next to the wall. However, we love it! I docked a star due to it having a SUPER strong chemical smell. As most have said. It started giving me a headache after a while. However, it looks awesome in my sons room and worked out super well! We put it together quickly and it looks great. As others have mentioned when getting our wood it looked black. Once we put it all together you can see it looks more dark brown then when I just had a few pieces in my hand next to the espresso crib. You can see my photos attached. All in all I would refer this to a friend, but I would say set it up somewhere you can air it out for a bit.

Assembly and initial sturdiness issues
The shelf was ok but not easy to put together. The instructions appeared incomplete for some reason. It didn't outline how many pieces there were or exactly what parts to use for each step. After a lot of guess work and some readjusting, we eventually got the shelf put together. The only issue after that was that the cam locks wouldn't seat properly to lock. Some wood glue and a little patience later, it was completed. Overall the shelf looks decent enough. There's no weird smell and the stain was even. It was just the assembly and initial sturdiness that was a pain.

It stinks, literally
The price was decent (though it has dropped from what it was when I bought it) - but if the box hadn't already been recycled I think I would send it back. It was easy enough to assemble, and quality what you would expect for an item of this price, but the problem is it stinks, like really, really bad - like nausea-inducing bad. If you've ever smelled fish leather (which is as bad as it sounds), that's what this smells like. I had to put it in the garage, and now the garage stinks. Since I can't send it back I am thinking I will try to paint it. I don't think I can bring it inside as it currently smells, and it doesn't seem to be dissipating, so painting it seems my only option. So - in short, buy it if you need something cheap and decent, but plan to paint it or only use it where the smell won't bother you.

Elegant looking
Wow much nicer than I thought it would be!!! Greats size not too big and not too small!!! I added the baskets and a placemat on the top For my plants. It has a nice color to it and pretty sturdy! Thinking about getting another one. Very easy to assemble as well! Only think it has a small Nick on one of the wood shelves but I used a furniture wood filler and it looks fine now. Overall great product

Good, reliable flat-pack.
[Pat’s True Review: I bought this. 2020] This is the third piece of furniture I purchase on Amazon from Winsome Wood and, as with the other two, I am left fully satisfied. As far as affordable flat pack go, I’ve seen a lot worse and not much better. You have to understand that these are built to a price, so more than anywhere, you get what you pay for. Winsome Wood Keeps price low by using creative designs and cutting down on the frills. However, they do not skimp below what would be an acceptable level of quality: The OSB is fairly rigid, the connecting pieces are of decent quality, the veneer looks good if obviously thin. Instructions are well documented and easy to follow. Construction makes sense. Final product isn’t a heirloom you’ll leave your kids, but looks good. This is perfect if you need something utilitarian on the cheap, or for an unbudgeted expense needed in the now... Or, if like me, you'd rather do furniture assembly than tabletop puzzles during a pandemic quarantine. I am very satisfied. Good job.

it has a strong smell
It's a nice little cabinet, it was easy to assemble and it has a nice rich look to it, but the main problem I have with it, is it has a really strong chemical type smell. It stunk up my dining room as well as my living room. I've had to put it outside, hoping the smell goes away. because I threw out the box to be able to return it

Great Bookshelf...Not just for books!
Great sturdy shelf. The only thing is it doesn't tell you in the description that the middle shelf is not easily removeable by just sliding out. The middle shelf is attached with cam lock screws. I chose not to attach the middle shelf as I am currently using shelf to place a fireplace insert. Looks great! When I decide to convert to bookshelf I will attach shelf. Cons: Backing should be one piece so line doesnt show vertically down the middle where the two pieces meet.

Toxic Smell, Poor Quality
I never ever write reviews (this is only the 2nd time in my life I have ever written a review about anything), but I feel like people need to be warned about this. I read through the reviews before purchasing the cabinet, but thought that, like most online reviews, people may have been exaggerating somewhat. I was very VERY wrong. As soon as we opened the box, the smell was overpowering. I thought my husband was being ridiculous, so he put it together anyway. I should mention that the wood pieces had some slight scratches on them from the manufacturing process, as if they'd been dragged or slid across a surface. The hardware didn't fit correctly, so we had to improvise to get it together. Overall, not the end of the world, we got it together and it looked nice enough. Except for the smell. I wiped it down with a damp cloth as well as Lysol wipes every day for a week. And we waited. The smell was so bad that it traveled throughout the house (this was upstairs in my son's room). It took us 2 days with all of the windows open and the unit shut tight in a bedroom to get the smell out of the house, but my son couldn't sleep in his room. Being ever so optimistic, I assumed it needed to air out similar to getting new carpeting installed when you have to wait for it to stop emitting the gases over a few days. A week later the smell was just as bad as when we opened the box, and my son is still not in his room. I did take some time to get up close to inspect it to see if I could figure out where the smell was coming from. I realized that the wood itself is fine, but the finishing products that they used (the paint/stain, lacquer, or both) are emitting the toxic smell. After all of this, I contacted the manufacturer to see if they could tell me what to do to get rid of it. Their response was as follows: "Hello, we apologize for the inconvenience I don’t know why there is a smell on the furniture. Please contact place of purchase for a return." Considering how many reviews discuss this issue, I have a very difficult time believing that they did not know about the issue. Obviously there is a chemical in their finishing products that is emitting a gas. Whether it is actually toxic or not I don't know for sure, but judging by the smell I wouldn't be surprised. It was so bad I wouldn't let my kids near it - that should tell you something right there. Buyer beware.

toxic smell
when I read other reviews - I thought how bad could the smell be - well it's pretty bad - I tried using febreeze but that actually made it worse - had to put the baskets outside! need up stripping off all the wrapping which seems to be raffia wrapped around a cloth and soaked in a tar like material that flakes like crazy. very toxic smell.
