Psst! Want to know more than your broker does?
The credibility of the author is indisputable in terms of expertise and experience. The work reads like an encyclopedia, but breaks away from that format with great anecdotes, historical perspective and contemporary context.A gifted writer as well as an intellectual titan in the field, Larry Harris - well I wish I was smart enough to take him to lunch and pick his brain. If you really want to understand the value and potential profits found in market micro-structure, there are fewer books more informative, and I am sure Mr. Harris has read them all.Psst... Want to know more than your broker? Get the book, but only if you are intent on being a serious professional making gobs and gobs of money in short amounts of time. Otherwise, why would you work your way through this data type? The Lone Comic TM

The must book to begin with...
Excellent book that covers market microstructure and trading practices at length. The writing style is very clear, and the book uses most of the jargons one would normally come across in the field of trading and quantitative analysis. A perfect concept builder for the novice as well as the experienced. A true value bomb for every guy aspiring to enter or excel in the field!

Most helpful trading book I have read
The author does not lay out a trading plan but he does give the blueprint if the reader uses his/her imagination. It's the kind of book one should read and then meditate on. In fact, they should ponder the material after each section. The insights that are shared would take the rest of us years and years of real world experience to gleam. Here, Harris presents it to us on a golden platter, if we take a few moments to digest and review what he's shared. It should get your mind racing with possibilities. Couldn't ask for more, except perhaps for an updated edition.

Good book but full of typos (Kindle edition)
I purchased the Kindle edition of this book. I don't know about the hard copies, but the e-version is chock full of typos which sometimes makes it hard to read.Other than that, it's a well written book that clearly explains the material with a few jokes and amusing stories thrown into the mix to make it more interesting.

Great book - hope we could see an updated version now
I agree with those who rate this book 4 stars or 5: this is sincerely a great book showing market microstructures. Applauds have been listed previously. It would be excellent if the author could publish an updated version - with more examples outside stock market and more analysis in High Frequency Trading.

High level book
Complex book, essential guiding tool for one of my Master courses. It requires time, but it's quite easy to understand, concepts are well defined. The order should have arrived in one month, but I received it 10 days earlier, in very good conditions.

Incredibly informative and fun
This is a book that incorporates economics and all the activities that can and do take place in trading on the Stock Exchanges or over the counter. It is mainly geared for the US but as someone who works in the industry in the UK I believe that this should be a must read for anyone interested in trading or regulating the trading environment. It explains most aspects of trading clearly and balances out the good and bad sides while also managing to delve into economic and human motivations. Not many economics books have references to trading places the movie with Eddie Murphy and Dan Ackroyd (apart from this one) and LH has these informative bits all around the book ensuring that the reading never gets too heavy. Its a bit like an advert from a Paul Verhoven movie enlightening you to the social attitudes within the movie society and also managing to amuse you.Good Book Larry... now please write a bit more.. shame to waste such talent.

Excellent explanation of the market mechanism
After 20 years of developing IT systems for global Capital Markets giants, I went back to school to do a Masters in Finance. This book was one of the recommended ones in a course on Financial Markets - I'm glad I I bought it. It's filled with useful and details information, presented in a clear to understand manner. I'm looking forward to reading it from cover to cover, and not just the parts required for my course :)

Highy recommended.
This is the best book about trading I've ever read. It is particularly suitable for people interested in the fundamental concepts rather than mathematical models.
