What a pain
I am not sure how GM came up with this design... In any case, this tool make it possible to disconnect the fuel filter. Even with the tool it is a MAJOR pain . At least it was for me. The tool helps to open the pins that hold the filter in place on one end (pls see pic). On my first try I disconnected the bracket that holds filter in place and unscrewed the other end of the fuel line. This made filter hang free, and then I tried using this tool to disconnect the other end of fuel line. After struggling for 40mins I gave up. (I consider myself pretty handy and do all my car maintenance . After giving up on this thing I have changed rear shocks , springs in the next 45mins, just to give you an idea of what a pain this fuel filter is).Attempt number 2. I have unscrewed the other end of fuel line, but did not completely unscrew the bracket. This way the filter was snugly in place but could move sideways. I have then inserted the tool and used a large screwdriver between the tool and the filter to pry it. This has finally gotten it off. Hope this helps someone..

GM fuel filter removal tool
I have an 04 GM with 5.3L Flex fuel. I don't know how you would get the filter off without this tool. Although even with the tool it is not that easy. I really needed 3 hands to hold the pieces and use the tool. Also, lying on my back under the car it was hard to maneuver. It would have been much easier if I had a lift. But overall if you are going to change the fuel filter yourself you should get this tool. I have attached some pictures of the tool and the filter. Also, please note the filter comes with a new clip, you will need to remove the old clip (see picture) to insert the fuel line. Read the directions on the package, I know, but it really does help. It took me a while to figure out how to disconnect the line, again, 3 hands would have helped.Pros: 1. The tool is metal and not plastic so it should last, I did not feel at all like it might break on me. 2. Once you get the tool on it it does work.Cons: 1. It takes 3 hands 2. I think if the parts were magnetic it would be easier, the half circle pieces kept dropping and of course rolled out of reach.Again, if you are going to change the fuel filter yourself get this tool. I used a screw driver to move the fuel lane toward the filter with the tool installed. There is no click or pop to tell you that the fuel line is disconnected. You just need to move the fuel line away from the filter, you should not have to force it. Don't get frustrated if it doesn't happen the first time, it took me a couple of trys. And be prepared for the fuel that will come out of the filter when it is disconnected.

Be very patient
I used it to remove the fuel filter on a 2004 Chevy suburban. It is a pain to use this. The first time I tried I got frustrated and gave up. A few weeks later I approached it with positive attitude and lots of time. I lifted the car high enough to be confortable, removed the fuel line from farther up. Took it to the bench, put the filter on a vice and I was able to remove the line. Then I learned that the first time I tried this, the tool wasn’t all the way in and when I forced it like that one or two of the tabs that click it in place got bent, making it impossible to remove from under the car.

A necessary tool to replace the fuel filter on Many GM
Without this tool it is difficult to disconnect the fuel line from the filter, as there is not enough clearance to get a standard disconnect tool into position. This unit consists of two metal halves which are of the correct length to push into place. The included handle holds the two halves together and allows you to rotate the disconnect tool to get the fuel line to detach. Yes you could probably make your own from a standard disconnect but unless you already have one on-hand you will probably expend more effort than it is worth.

Don’t fully seat the wrench to the adapters
So just did the replacement using this tool this am and what a pain in the butt it was. Now I am going to save everyone the pain I went through by giving you a tip on how to use this. When you insert the metal tabs into the quick connect and then slide the wrench over make sure that the wrench will not catch the lip of the connector. I pried for almost 3 hours until I finally realized that the wrench when it is full seated on the adapters is actually hitting the lip so you aren’t able to fully depress the release. After you get it pushed out then take the wrench off and use a flat head screwdriver to pry the rest of it back. Literally a 30 minute job took me a Saturday morning to do.

Mala calidad del producto ,No recomiendo comprarlo ..
Definitivamente no recomiendo este producto está hecho de un material muy blando,y si la parte q vas a remover nunca se ha quitado se doblan las medias lunas antes de que se quite el tubo del filtro ..

Overrated and frustrating performance.
Too much frustration and wasted time. It is now in the drawer of useless tools. I went old school and cut off the filter with a hacksaw and used a screwdriver to pop out the old fitting. Popped in a new and done. Less than thirty minutes and no stress.

Useful but awkward to use
I have an 04 Yukon with flex fuel, and the design of the filter does not allow enough room to slide a standard fuel line tool between the filter and release tab. This product has shorter fingers and got the job done. It is awkward to use due to having 3 parts vs my 2 hands, and I dropped the 2 semi circles more times than I care to remember, but eventually I got the filter off. That's really all you can ask for a fuel line removal tool, right? It's well constructed and feels like it will last quite a while.
