No complaints, only praise; What a deal
After about 3 months with this laptop, I can safely safe it met my expectations. I'm going to write this review for those that are just casually looking right now, which I was not too long ago. I didn't know much about gaming PCs/laptops so hopefully some of this helps Pros: - The fact that it's a laptop; I will mention in the cons that it's not a "lap"top by any means, but it is mobile and attracted me for that reason (ex. I can go out on my back deck and play Dota/Farcry) - The price is pretty ridiculously good. Comparing the specs with its competitors I might actually place this as the ultimate bargain. - The specs themselves. Can run almost every game on Ultra minus some of the aliasing (which doesn't seem optimized in the game not just for how this laptop handles it). - It also is a great looking and definitely "quality" build. The keys are nice and firm, touchpad is great, the accessibility features are great, and it just feels and looks well made - It's Asus. I'm not a fanboy but they do provide pretty reliable products, and they seem to be in good business practices. Call them if you have any issues. Cons: - It's heavy. As I mentioned above, it's not a laptop for the lap. Place it on any desk and it runs like any other PC. - The 980m graphics is great, but I was a little mislead by thinking it was just a regular 980x gtx. It's essentially not much different than a 970x. This isn't really a con but just wanted to note it's the only thing I wasn't aware of before purchasing. - Windows 10 is still working through the kinks. This will be a problem on any pc or laptop so it's not ROG specific, but windows 10 still has issues that go unanswered, which can be frustrating. - Low battery life. This, however, needs to be taken in context. If you're using a high amount of GPU than obviously it will be lower. However, I don't know of any gaming laptop where you can expect to play hours on end without needing to plug in the battery. If that's your goal then you'll need to severely sacrifice the performance specs that you're looking for. If you are shopping for gaming laptops I would highly recommend this one. I have 0 complaints, only praise. I personally have no intention to ever have my own PC and this laptop is the reason why. Some tips are to uninstall the Gamefist 3, it seems like a program that's in the works but as of now will cause issues on this laptop. Perform clean graphics updates through geforce experience, if you have any issue with geforce experience check out the forums or feel free to comment here, but that's the best way to keep drivers updates (from time to time, also check the Asus support center to update specific drivers when needed). I also will re-recommend getting in touch with Asus if any issues seems too challenging, they have helped me in the past.

It seems like it worth the money !!! [GTX 980m]
This is my first gaming laptop. However, I can barely call this a laptop. It's a compact gaming desktop on the go, and.. it's really heavy and big, so it might not be so portable. Asus are known for their good and well-made product, but be aware as many users received it with dead screens. But don't worry, amazon is a custumer-centered store, so replacing it will be easy. You can replace it in 30 days, but if you are going to make an international order and 30 days may not be enough, they'll get you covered. I wrote to support service and they said they'll offer me more time, as it's an international order. It arrived safe even in Moldova. I was wondered. The packagind is nice, really nice. As I only spent just 3 days with it, I can't tell you a lot, I will update soon, but there are some things I already mention and I can talk about them. *The build quality is fantastic, it looks and it feels amazing. *It's the only nice laptop with gtx 980m for the price, I was searching a lot. *The power adapter is really a brick - you can kill somebody easy with that thing. *The display, oh the display, it rocks. Just turn on the Vivid mode in that "Asus Splendit" pre-installed program. *The keyboard is very good for a laptop. I was thinking to buy a mechanical gaming keyboard with this one, and nothing will be better then a mech. keyb. , but after writing some articles and playing some games, I am very pleased with it and I do not want to buy another one, it's just damn good and the keys are very rensposive. *The red backlit is also very nice-looking. I like it a lot. *Of course, as you know, that 5 extra buttons on the left top are terrible and useless, but maybe pro gamers will use it to macro some things. The only thing I found good in them is that you can program a website on each, except steam and that video button. It would be a lot better without them. *I find the trackpad very nice, it's big and just doing it's work. *The speakers, as other reviews says, are not terrible, but very bad. I recommend getting a headset. *The ROG button on num-pad is useless and you'll get a bit angry when you want to turn on the num-pad and you'll get to that useless program. *BLOADWARE! Yes, there a bunch of totally useless pre-instaled programs, but I will not decrease y rating because of that, as the majority of laptops comes with it, and it's very easy to deal. Just make a clean install and get the all necesary drivers from asus website. It took me an hour to instal windows 10 again and install all the drivers. *Boot time is standart for all SSD, I am not surprised. *Speaking about the SSD... It has a m.2 slot, but the SSD came with sata3, and there are no adapters for that little thing, some if you plan to get a m.2 ssd you'll also need a adapter, and by adapter I mean that thing that will hold it, as the port is right there. *I played StarCraft2 on it and Battlefield4 both on ultra ( you'll want the settings to be made by geforce experience, as it's doing a great job optimizing the game's settings) *Speaking of GeForce, it won't run because of a s*** program that I have already deleted ( game first 3), you can see in the reviews here some other useful thing you should do. * I fefinetelly recommend a CLEAN INSTALL, it;s very simple to do and do not spend extra money fo some other companies to do that for you, at least if you're not 70. Otherwise, respect yourself :) I will update after some time of use, but for now, I'm very pleased for what I got for only $1568 with GTX 980m inside. If you have any questions, write in the comments below.

A great (not perfect) system... fast and a great value
After reading the set of recent reviews complaining about quality problems on arrival of the new system, I decided to take a chance. Multiple sites reviewed the laptop with high scores, and I knew Amazon would make it right if the laptop was damaged or not functioning in any way. I haven't been disappointed. It's not a perfect machine by any means and it took a little bit to get it working right, but once I did, it's been a workhouse, handling World of Warcraft on Ultra settings without a sweat and encoding digital video easily. It is exactly what I needed to replace my previous dying laptop. The pros: - Fast. Really very fast in all aspects. - System boots insanely quickly - Tons of storage on the standard drive - The display is awesome - Game performance is wonderful at high settings on every game I've tried The not-so-pros: - It took some updating of drivers to get the system stable. I had random reboots (no blue or black screen, just reboot) until I updated everything - As always with too many systems, tons of bloatware that needed to be uninstall - The SSD is relatively small given how much room the OS uses. You have to be careful to change the installation drive of everything you don't need on your SSD so you don't fill it up too quickly - Occasionally the sound will distort for no reason, with nothing else really using up the CPU - The "gaming" keys make no sense. Putting a dedicated key to launch a streamcasting app right above the Escape key is idiotic. There should never be a key above the Escape key. I had to uninstall the app that was launched by this other key so nothing happens when it's pressed. The configuration utility for the gaming keys does not allow for overriding this particular key. This is a beast in a very good way. It's fast, brilliant, stable (once it's updated), has plenty of USB 3.0 ports, and has room for everything you need to install and edit if you're careful about which drive you install things to.

Hot rog 🤩
Got so hot gaming with or without plugged in 😁, only lasted 3 years before it randomly just stopped working , bugged out a bit before that but didn't bother repairing , newer rog series is better but g14 style has also terrible heater vents that cause issues with overheating even when doing nothing if not a update to ruin it before the updates run out in august

Dead On Arrival! (Fixed! Edit!) New one works fine now~
2-12-16 Edit: Though the first laptop I was sent did not even work, amazon promptly sent me a replacement. This new laptop works fine and great. The backlit keyboard functions as it should and it has a very sleek design. The ONLY complaint I have is the touchpad is a tad too big, even with my beefy hands; I'll use a mouse most of the time anyhow so it isn't a big deal. If anything new arises with the laptop, I will edit as needed. Though the box and everything was nice and new, it was all for nothing as it was dead on arrival. I expected more from ASUS, being a current (formerly) happy customer of theirs. I don't know what caused the laptop to die before it reached me, but the lack of "fragile" stickers on the box may have been a factor. There is evidence that the box had been carelessly tossed around while shipping. I bought this laptop as a replacement for my current gaming/schooling/programming rig it can't handle the intense work I would be doing, so it was time for a long needed upgrade. I love ASUS and their rigs, and this one seemed perfect for me. I sit at my desk a lot but not often enough for a desktop computer to be viable. It arrived later than it was supposed to. I had used prime for free two day shipping but didn't get it until a week later, which was confusing because I called Amazon before finalizing the order and the representative was so sure that since they had it in stock, it would surely reach me within two days. The package arrived, and it was more or less cushioned by the standard paper cushioning. The outer box was slightly damaged and maybe jostled, but the box inside which held the laptop itself was in pristine condition so I didn't think much of it. I plugged in the charger and let it charge for about an hour or two before turning it on, and to my surprise, it didn't work. The screen itself seems fine, but maybe a few wires are loose or disconnected. In the attached photos, this is what I see when I turn on the computer. The same screen everytime. There is a distinct bar that goes down the screen, and if I had a better camera, you could even see what seems to be a dead pixel. When I turned it on, the indicator lights were the only thing that worked when they were supposed to. The backlit keyboard flickered on and off while I pressed a few keys to see if I could get a response, and the accessibility voice came on, so I know that not everything was broken. I am returning it to Amazon via USPS, and notified them that I need a replacement. ASUS representatives suggested I just that, though the representative himself seemed more than annoyed when I called him and asked about this. Wish I could have remembered his name, as I would have surely asked to have spoken to a manager. Let's hope that this gets fixed and I can continue to love using their brand again. Besides my extreme disappointment, the laptop itself has a nice and sleek design. I just wished this arrived on time in working order.

Rock Solid Laptop
Pros: 1) Fast boot 2) Powerful graphics 3) Whisper quiet 4) Stays cool 5) Rock solid and dependable performance. 6) Upgrade accessibility is very good (easily and quickly converted 1 gig to 1 gig SSD) how to videos easily found on YouTube. Cons: 1) The pre-installed Game First III software was causing me major connectivity issues playing GTA V Online, which plays beautifully on this laptop since uninstalling it. (very high and ultra graphics easily achieved BTW) 2) My only beefs are the extra buttons, they are located right above the ESC key, just a personal peave, i like my ESC key to be the corner. Now i risk launching the video streaming just due to habit, would have been better off centered. 3) Can't say I've used the steam button at all since I usually have it running on my taskbar and the full screen default is just way to big, i feel like I have to stand back to view it. 4) The ROG key is barely used as well, the application isn't all that expansive to warrant a dedicated button. 5) The red backlit panel is ok, but having a brighter color option or even color coding would have been a nice perk. Overall i think the pros outweigh the cons, the pros are the important factors. The only major issue was the game first III software, it really had me checking everything possible for my connectivity issues. Been working flawlessly after removing it though. Overall highly recommended.

Good Laptop... terrible support... questionable build quality.
Product as it is is really good. Support is terrible and build quality is questionable. The RH shift key has never felt right, it's always been kind of mushy. This weekend everything started to type in all caps, I pulled the RH shift key cap off and noticed the little U shaped metal spring which is supposed to return the key when you let go had become disconnected from the key cap and was now being held up solely by the (surprisingly sensitive) key button which was now activated all the time. With the cap removed everything returned to normal. I went to ASUS Support website, filled out the form and hit submit and the page threw and error. I did this 4 times on 2 different browsers with the same result. Finally I went through their Facebook page, and after several messages they said I had to send the unit in for repairs; based on info on the ASUS forums this is likely to result in getting a refurb unit that is likely worse off than what I sent in, and will take several weeks. I asked them if they could just send me the cap and was told no I had to send it in. This is only slightly more difficult to replace than a broken charger, and well within most anyones abilities to do but they refuse to work with you. I'm now purchasing the cap from a third party vendor to replace it myself but the bottom line is ASUS obviously puts little effort into supporting their products (the still broken website) and then exercises zero flexibility when it comes to repairing stuff. I won't buy one again. I rely on my laptop to communicate when on business travel; I can't, and shouldn't have to, justify the risk and effort on my part to send the whole laptop in (which involves about 5 hours of work between wiping, reinstalling windows, and then all my software, and 2 or more weeks downtime waiting for the laptop to be returned), to fix a minor but extremely annoying issue.

Overall great computer, but one major flaw
Hey everyone, if you're looking for a great gaming laptop this is it. I love almost everything about this laptop, and because it is my first time in the pc gaming arena, moving from console, I was more than pleasantly surprised. The frame rates are great, the laptop starts in less than 5 seconds, and everything looks beautiful. Alas, I will have to contact support or return it to the proper source due to sound quality issues. I'm not saying this is a problem for all of their laptops at Asus, because due to the other reviews I seem to be an outlier. My sound is muffled and seems to be coming from the back left of the computer. It sounds distorted and farther away than it should be. I do not know much about pc's yet, but I do believe this is a problem with the drivers and not the speakers themselves, because when I test them I can hear both speakers clearly. But they don't do much outside of the test. It would be hard to play a game without headphones, or watch a movie without headphones. I even downloaded the drivers from Asus support, but no changes. This really is a great machine, the Witcher 3 looks beautiful, Counter Strike Global Offensive plays super smoothly, and you most likely won't regret getting it. However, if you have similar sound problems like I mentioned earlier, I haven't seen anything to help yet so you may have to return the laptop. I would love to give five stars, but this issue needs to be addressed.

It’s a great purchase!
I love how sleek the laptop looks. Also it runs like a dream, the only problem is windows 10. It has a hard time connecting to my router so it takes a very long time to load. It says the problem is it can’t communicate with the router’s DNS. Otherwise one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Let it be noted it shipped in record time! I am a teenager and made the order using my moms account.

Best gaming rig.
Best gaming laptop . I love my previous Sager, but this is at a different level. Amazingly quiet even during heavy graphics load. 980m shreads through highest demands games.
