Q: Are these boots weather or water-proof?

Great shoes but not waterproof.

Q: Does the smell fade on it's own? If not, is there anything that works to make it go away?

I thought it got much better after a day of wearing. Mine are only about a week old. I now have 2 pair, one on my feet (2nd wearing) and one four feet away in a box--I got the wrong size. For me, it was a half size, not a full size difference--however, I also have 3/4 length planar fasciitis inserts which take up heel and arch space. I didn't notice the smell until I saw your email. I would put them outside or in a garage for a day.
