Easy and Functional
This item functioned perfectly and had good instructions. The key is that my drive's spindle was broken but not the logic board attached to it - which is usually the case with the PS3 and other gaming systems. Thus, it was easy to remove the broken drive, swap the boards and install. The drive I purchased here did come with a board attached but that has to be flashed with the systems security key to function and apparently that is a difficult operation (at least compared to swapping them). So I ended up with a spare board I will keep in case of that kind of failure.I just searched on YouTube for a video about how to open the PS3 and install the drive. I've done this a few times on other systems and its really cool because there are a lot of videos out about how to repair game consoles.I would recommend this product to other people for these reasons:Good PackagingFast ShippingClear InstructionsNew, Clean part - not refurbished as far as I can tell

Excellent Purchase, Are these New because it seemed like it was?
I don't know if these drive are new, used, or refurbished but it looked as close to new as I would imagine a new drive looking. It comes with a new logic board if you have the ability to pair your drive to your ps3. I swapped my current logic board over after my ps3 stopped reading discs. I was up and running in a matter of 20 minutes. Drive works excellent and saved me from having to buy anouther new ps3.

It was packaged nicely, not that that has anything to do with ...
So my ps3 pooed the bed and i researched replacing the whole thing. Too pricy i went to a couple places to look for a replacement and went with this. It was packaged nicely, not that that has anything to do with product quality. It took me about an hour and a half of tinkering (i have no idea what im doing) to get my ps3 frankensteined back together. SAVE THE OLD DRIVE!!!! It has a piece you need to connect to the new one that even the youtube video didnt show. Its based on the gen of ps3. Anywhoosers i was playing skyrim again in no time

Not as advertised!
The unit was not new! It had new components inside, but the plastic frame was dented where someone pried the top cover off. Working ok after a firmware flash.

Totally Awesome
So awesome, My blue-ray player in my ps3 went out on Cech-2001b and it was making a clicking noise and it would play DVDs just fine.I did research and found out the blue ray did went bad. I bought this replacement ( I paid the extra $10 for the new one), I ordered it on a Friday and it came in the mail Monday. I swapped out the board, and the put in the PS3 and it worked great.

Not a simple drive swap.
So you know, because I didn't realize until I put it in and it didn't work. This is not a simple drive swap. You have to take both drives apart and swap the boards. Luckily I used to build my pcs back in the day so it wasn't so bad. Also, two of the screws were sealed with some crazy hard, alien technology substance, lol. I had to burn/melt it to soften it. Then the screws fell back out when I was putting it back together because they were too small. Also, the screw mount on the back was broken and I had to glue it back on. BUT if you have some skill it's a pretty good deal. However, they could stand to be a bit clearer on the details... That being said, my PS3 works like a charm now.

I bought it new, got it used...
Our PS3 was having issues reading discs of any kind; we narrowed it down to the disc drive and when we received it, it already had a few scratches on it. Once we installed it, it had this loud scary grinding sound and it still didn't read the discs. So we called it quits, good shot though and installed our original disc drive and it worked ._. but soon after we realized it read discs when it wanted which was very frustrating and it would freeze! We did a bit more research and concluded it was a software issue; I formatted the PS3 last night and this morning tested 5 different disc games and worked every time! If you do go this route, manually back up your data...if you use the PS3 backup system and restore it back the bug that may be messing with the discs drive not reading, may still be in your restore (Thats what happened to us, so we are re-formatting). Good luck everyone!***Product***I believe now it is labeled as used, just be aware of what you are purchasing and how to install it because it came with nothing else (Which I expected, it wasn't an issue but for someone that expected an installation how to.. the internet just became your best friend) I'm also not sure if you install a new disc drive if you need to flash the system some how to sync the new hardware, which may be why ours didn't work, it's alright lol turns out we didn't need it!
