Who knew a book about cod could be so interesting? My 6-year-old history-loving homeschooled daughter checked out a suitcase kit from the library, stuffed with books about the American Revolution. This one was in there, and it turned out to be our favorite, though we'd never have chosen it on our own. I ended up buying us a copy--and "The Story of Salt" by the same author. We both loved how much we learned about history--and how it was all tied to cod. Fascinating.

and adding great non-fiction reads like this one
I wish schools would consider dropping textbooks, and adding great non-fiction reads like this one. The information is so meaningful. Also, it got me to the store trying salted cod. Nice dish served in a cream sauce over potatoes. I wil be using this book a lot in my fifth grade social studies class.

I was hoping for a book for an 11 year old, (I read the full version and loved it), Luckily I have an 8 year old who might like it (though I wish I bought it last year)

Excellent!
This is the children's version (intermediate grades -- 3rd through 6th) of Mark Kurlansky's adult non-fiction book. A very informative and interesting book that gives tremendous insight into how the cod fish shaped modern history. (His children's book, Salt, is another great read!) I would definitely recommend this book.

Ordered wrong book
I mistakenly ordered this child's version of COD by the same author. Description was not detailed enough for me to know the difference, so I was disappointed.
