In the early 1970s, a kung-fu dynamo named Bruce Lee side-kicked his way onto the screen and straight into pop-culture immortality. With his magnetic screen presence, tightly coiled intensity, and superhuman martial-arts prowess, Lee was an icon who conquered both Hong Kong and Hollywood cinema and transformed the art of the action film in the process. This collection brings together the five films that define the Lee legend: furiously exciting fist-fliers propelled by his innovative choreography, unique martial-arts philosophy, and whirlwind fighting style. Though he completed only a handful of films while at the peak of his stardom before his untimely death at age thirty-two, Lee left behind a monumental legacy as both a consummate entertainer and a supremely disciplined artist who made Hong Kong action cinema a sensation the world over. Benn, Riki Hashimoto, Nora Miao, Robert Wall, Yuen Wah, and Simon Yam and directors Clarence Fok, Sammo Hung, and Wong Jing Promotional materials New English subtitle translations and subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by critic Jeff Chang THE BIG BOSS Enter a legend. Bruce Lee’s return to the Hong Kong film industry after a decade in America proved to be his big breakthrough, launching him to superstardom and setting a new standard for kung-fu heroics. In The Big Boss, he commands the screen with his gravitas and explosive physicality in the role of a Chinese immigrant working at a Thai ice factory and sworn to an oath of nonviolence. When he discovers that the factory’s ruthless higher-ups are running a secret heroin ring and offing their own workers, his commitment to pacifism is put to the test. With his undeniable charisma and fluid, lightning-fast martial-arts style, Lee is a revelation, streaking across the screen with a speed and power the likes of which had never been seen before. FIST OF FURY Bruce Lee is at his most awe-inspiringly ferocious in this blistering follow-up to his star-making performance in The Big Boss, which turned out to be an even greater success than its predecessor. Set in 1910s Shanghai, Fist of Fury casts Lee as a martial-arts student who, after his revered master is murdered by a rival dojo of Japanese imperialists, sets out to defend the honor of both his school and the Chinese people, with his fatal fists as his weapon of choice. Elevating Lee to a hero of near folkloric proportions, this historical revenge fantasy blends its stunning action set pieces with a strong anticolonialist statement and a potent dose of the fierce cultural pride that the actor embodied. THE WAY OF THE DRAGON After the back-to-back triumphs of The Big Boss and Fist of Fury, Bruce Lee was given the chance to write, produce, and direct his third outing as a martial-arts superstar. He used the opportunity to add a touch of goofily entertaining comedy to the typically action-driven proceedings in The Way of the Dragon, which finds him playing a rigorously trained martial artist who travels from Hong Kong to Rome to help his cousin, whose restaurant is being threatened by a gang of thugs. Reaching new heights of physical virtuosity, Lee unleashes an astonishing display of nunchaku-swinging, fly-kicking mayhem, all culminating in one of his most breathtaking fights: an epic gladiatorial death match with Chuck Norris in the Colosseum. ENTER THE DRAGON At the height of his stardom in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee was called to Hollywood to make the film that, perhaps more than any other, defines his legacy. His electrifying fighting style and the deeply personal philosophy that guided it received their fullest expression yet in this thrilling tale of a Shaolin fighter who goes undercover to infiltrate an island presided over by a renegade monk turned diabolical criminal mastermind. Released just days after Lee’s tragic death, Enter the Dragon went on to become his greatest international success and one of the most influential action movies ever made, with its famed hall-of-mirrors finale bringing together the physical and intellectual dimensions of his artistry in one dazzling set piece. GAME OF DEATH Released five years after Bruce Lee’s death, this eccentrically entertaining kung-fu curio combines footage from an unfinished project directed by and starring Lee with original material shot by Enter the Dragon director Robert Clouse to create an entirely new work that testifies to the actor’s enduring place in the pop-culture imagination. Using stand-ins, doubles, and archival footage to compensate for Lee’s absence, Game of Death follows a martial-arts movie star who, when he is threatened by a cutthroat crime syndicate intent on controlling his career, must take his skills from the soundstage to the streets. It all builds to an exhilarating climax that is pure Lee: a tour de force of martial-arts mastery in which the legend himself, clad in an iconic yellow jumpsuit, fights his way up a multilevel pagoda, with the towering Kareem Abdul-Jabbar among his formidable opponents.

A CELEBRATION OF BRUCE LEE
There was a time when martial arts films were non-existent to American audiences. The closest any film here came to martial arts was the use of ninjas in the James Bond movie YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. All others were nothing more than fodder for grindhouses across the country, poorly shot and poorly dubbed movies that ran in with scratched copies pieced together from one location to the next. At the same time Asian Americans were not getting their due in films or TV either. To this day people talk about the terrible stereotyped images, especially that of Mickey Rooney in BREAKFAST AT TIFFANYS. Then along came Bruce Lee.Even as his career began Asian Americans were still being depicted poorly. After appearing in films in China and a troubled youth, Lee was sent to America with the hopes of turning his life around. He began learning martial arts and eventually created his own style called Jeet Kune Do. Lured to the possibility of a role in TV he auditioned for and got the part of Kato in THE GREEN HORNET, a spin-off of the popular BATMAN series. Playing the part of the Hornet’s sidekick he took center stage with his charisma and skills. After creating a series for TV called KUNG FU, the part he had written for himself was given to David Carradine, another slap in the face of this young man. He moved back to Hong Kong to try making a name for himself in film there. His fortunes turned around and a legend was born with his first film, THE BIG BOSS. When released the film became the top grossing film in Asia. He was a star. Dead at age 32 in 1973 his legend still lives on. Few have met let alone surpassed the skills he displayed. Now Criterion is releasing the ultimate collection of memorable films starring the late Bruce Lee. They’ve not only collected the last five major releases they’ve remastered them in 2 and 4k versions for this collection. The films include THE BIG BOSS, FISTS OF FURY, THE WAY OF THE DRAGON, ENTER THE DRAGON and GAME OF DEATH. Also featured is the American theatrical edition of ENTER THE DRAGON not seen since it was released here in 1973.Each film is a stepping stone in the career of Lee showing his rise from a lead role in his first film with a lower budget to work with to his final release produced in association with Warner Brothers and a decent budget. THE WAY OF THE DRAGON features a new face to movies who went on to fame as well, another actual martial arts champion by the name of Chuck Norris. The film features the pair facing off in an ancient gladiator arena in Rome. But the best film of them all is ENTER THE DRAGON. They lee died just as the film was released makes it all the more sad when you watch the film and know that had he lived his star would have risen even further.I’ve seen ENTER THE DRAGON at least 20 times. Every viewing for me is another trip into the world of one of the best action films ever made. Lee is a Chinese monk brought in by a top secret intelligence group to help take down an evil drug lord and human trafficker named Han. The fact that his right hand man Oharra was responsible for the death of Lee’s sister is just an added incentive. Han plans a battle of champions on his remote island, the survivors of which he offers to join his army. With newfound friends Roper (John Saxon) and Williams (Jim Kelly) as well as previous losers the film ends with a battle of martial arts armies and Lee facing off one on one with Han.No martial arts movie before or since captures the fight sequences that were staged for this film better. Choreographed by Lee they are amazing to watch. The combination of speed and with a physique honed by years of body building make Lee the most formidable hand to hand combatant ever seen. His swagger, his natural knack for capturing the lens are on display in every scene he is in.The Criterion collection doesn’t just offer these movie it has tons of extras on hand as well. Introductions to each film, featurettes on the making of, interviews past and present with those who knew Lee and worked with him, documentaries about Lee, audio commentary tracks, a documentary on “Bruceploitation” films that came out following his death, a booklet about Lee and more make the extras almost as long if not longer than the actual films themselves. Some will find the price tag on this collection a little steep but for fans of martial arts films, action films and of Bruce Lee it is little to pay when you think about everything that is included here as well as the fact that these films have never looked this clean and sharp before. I was stunned at how improved THE BIG BOSS looked here. If you are a fan this is an absolute must have collection. If you’ve never been exposed to Lee this will win you over. For my money there is no better collection than this one and it should be on the shelf of every movie fan.

Unleashing the Dragon
As a martial arts enthusiast and a fan of Bruce Lee, I was thrilled to get my hands on the Criterion Collection's Blu-ray set of Bruce Lee's greatest hits. And let me tell you, it's a must-have for any fan of the martial arts genre. The set includes five of Lee's most iconic films: The Big Boss, Fist of Fury, The Way of the Dragon, Enter the Dragon, and Game of Death. Each film is presented in stunning high-definition, with crisp and clear visuals that really show off the martial arts choreography and cinematography. But what really sets this set apart is the special features. Criterion has gone all out with this release, including commentaries, interviews, and documentaries that provide an in-depth look at Lee's life and career. There's even a feature-length documentary, Bruce Lee: The Man and the Legend, that delves into Lee's philosophy and impact on martial arts and popular culture. The films themselves are classics of the martial arts genre, and each one showcases Lee's unique talent and charisma. The Big Boss and Fist of Fury are gritty and intense, with Lee playing a man fighting against corruption and oppression. The Way of the Dragon is a fun and lighthearted romp, with Lee taking on Chuck Norris in an epic showdown. Enter the Dragon is a masterpiece of the genre, with Lee playing a martial arts expert recruited to infiltrate a criminal organization's island fortress. And Game of Death, while incomplete due to Lee's untimely death, still features some of his most iconic fight scenes.Overall, Bruce Lee's Greatest Hits Criterion Collection on Blu-ray is a fantastic set for any fan of martial arts or Bruce Lee. The films are timeless classics, and the special features provide a wealth of information and context for Lee's life and legacy. If you're a fan of the genre, this is definitely a set worth adding to your collection.

Must Have For Bruce Lee Fans...
I have so many Bruce Lee collections it isn't funny.I have the Master Collection, which are the US releases most of us grew up on. So The Big Boss is Fists of Fury, Fist of Fury is Chinese Connection and Way of the Dragon is Return of the Dragon. It's a nice set but we all know the Hong Kong versions have some additional scenes.I have the Ultimate Collection which are the original Hong Kong films, unfortunately Fortune Star felt the need to update some of the sound effects and they sound really ridiculous. Almost as bad as when George Lucas decided to fix one of his films with additional effects.Thankfully the Criterion Collection has come to our rescue, all of the Hong Kong films (as released) with both Chinese and English audio in glorious original widescreen presentation. If you grew up watching pan and scan versions on cable tv, it can feel like a completely new movie because suddenly there are extra people in every scene. Also includes the Hong Kong release of Enter the Dragon and the US theatrical version which I personally think was a better edit. This film is usually not found in Bruce Lee collections as it was a Warner Bros film. There are also extras galore from documentary stuff to expert commentary on the films.Don't expect miracles, the films can be a touch grainy and I think they restored them as much as they were able. But with modern TV resolutions poor stock and out of focus stuff really stands out. But when it's clean, it's really clean. This is also the best these films have ever looked. This is the most enjoyable Bruce Lee collection I've ever had.

A collection for Bruce Lee fans
If you're a fan of Bruce Lee, the Criterion Collection box set is the most convenient way to acquire all his films along with special features exclusive to this set. I bought this for my dad who is unable to watch his Special Edition DVD copy of Enter the Dragon because he no longer has a Region 3 DVD player. With this boxset, he now has the entire library of Bruce Lee's films along with both the theatrical cut and the special edition cut of Enter the Dragon. Granted, these are standard Blu-rays and not 4K UHD discs. However, the source material was still from 4K restorations, so the picture quality is still really good, unless you have OCD and love to pixel count. For most viewers, the video quality of this boxset will suffice. The other drawback is that two famous documentaries like Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey and "Bruce Lee: The Curse of the Dragon" are Warner Brothers exclusives, so they are missing in this set. But the Criterion Collection has "The Game of Death Redux" as well as exclusive interviews that make up for missing material in past special edition releases. Overall, it's great value for money, especially at the $60 - $70 price point.

The bonus feature programs make this collection worth the purchase!
This Review Is Not… This is not a review of the artistic merits of the four Bruce Lee films and the two “Brucesploitation” films from Golden Harvest (Game of Death I and II). The Criterion Collection has collected all six films credited as official Bruce Lee productions into this single package. The collection also contains a sizable library of legacy bonus materials on the films, and on Bruce Lee as an actor and fighter. The Criterion Collection has added their own production bonus features to the library as well. There is also a multi-page color pamphlet on the films and Bruce Lee’s career included. The Films: The films are presented in 1080p high definition and look quite good on a big screen television. One note though is that some amount of imperfections and “video noise” is evident from the scan of the source material. I would be critical of the fact that no effort seemingly was taken to clean up the video imperfections. I assume however the production team for Criterion likely did not have control over the restoration process. It is such a shame though that the video clean up and color correction was not accomplished during the restoration effort. A further disappointment with the restoration effort was that no remastered 5.1 audio tracks were included with the films. They took the original uncompressed monaural audio tracks and encoded them into DTS-HD format. The single exception is a 5.1 soundtrack is included with the extended version of Enter the Dragon. The Bonus Features: The lack of video cleanup and color correction of the films with remastered 5.1 soundtracks is disappointing. But the inclusion of the large bonus features library goes a long way to justify the retail cost of this seven disc set. My personal favorite of all the bonus materials is inclusion of the original and complete fight sequences that Bruce Lee produced for Game of Death I. When Golden Harvest made the decision to produce their first Brucesploitation feature (about 6 years after Bruce’s death), the original fight sequences were edited down to the point the original story they told was lost. There is more to this part of the story that I don’t want to give away, but these historical tidbits about the films help justify the cost of this wonderful film collection. The history behind the films and Bruce’s part in bringing them to the screen is fascinating. Overall I recommend this film collection the hardcore Bruce Lee fan!

The best there is.
Finally got one when the price dropped to an affordable one. After owning these films on vhs when I was younger and only seeing the cut versions, I got the Medium Rare blu rays and was disappointed with the audio. Within weeks this Criterion set was announced and i knew I had to get a multi region player and go for this set. Finally these films have been given proper service at last. The best audio available and great picture quality. All his films plus Game Of Death 2 which I prefer to the first one. This one has better use of footage of Bruce than the awful first film which is only saved by the 11 mins of footage. The set also contains Game Of Death Redux which compiles 45 mins of footage with new sound effects and score and serves as a better option than struggling through the Game Of Death original ! This is now my go to version when I next do a Bruce marathon. A lovely set as you can expect from Criterion. Great extras and the added bonus of a 2K print of Enter The Dragon theatrical version. Can't recommend it enough.

Language Incorrectly Listed in Description
Unless you speak and understand Mandorin. I would not buy this box set. It does not come in the English Language as much as it states that in the description.
