ESV Gospel of John (Paperback, Cross Design) Review: Five Stars - A nice portable word of god. I want more of this like Gosopel of Mark, Romans, Hebrew ... Review: Great but salvation message is not clear - I didn't like the salvation message in the front as we are very picky about how we present the Gospel. I rather of just had this be the Gospel of John and then we can add a tract inside it. Examples: It talks about salvation not being about our good works (correct) but in the sinners prayer they provide it says "Help me live in a way that pleases and honors you". This is mingling works and faith together. Remember, this is an unsaved person. We don't want to confuse them with how they should be living after saved. Next: It talks about salvation being by believing (correct) but then says "If you have just committed your life to Christ...". This again is works based. We do not commit our life to Christ to get saved. We are dead in our sins. Christ committed His life for us. And why go from all the you have to believe verses then switch to using the word commit which is not even in any of those verses? Believe and commit do not have the same meaning. Next: It talks about, what happens if we sin after being saved. It says "All Christians sin from time to time"...then goes on to say but he will forgive them. The latter part is correct but, again, this is leaning towards a works based salvation. Christians do not sin "occasionally". We sin daily. Our very flesh is sinful and under the curse of sin. I will not use this in ministry but gave it 3 stars are the size of the text and quality is great. If you see no problem with the above, then maybe you will like this booklet.
