Krylon K01376000 Gallery Series UV Archival Varnish Aerosol Spray, Semi-Gloss, 11 Ounce

This clear, glossy, archival paint sealer works very well with all my paintings. It adds that special finished gloss that every painting needs for that professional look.

It gives the painted object a soft sheen with a layer or two. The shine is build-able with more applications. It protects my painted skulls from yellowing from exposure to UV light and age. I protects my art work from damage and gives it the right finished touch. Just make sure to wear a mask when spraying!

Does not leave paintings sticky and goes on exactly as described. Completely sheer and semi-glossy. The nozzle is a little tricky and broke on the first one I ordered but they immediately replaced it. Would definitely recommend.

I have had good success with the Kamar Varnish, but a client wanted a glossier finish; so, I ordered a can of this product. I applied it on a smaller canvas and the stream, after the appropriate shaking of the can (I have had success with a similar product), the stream sputtered and sent globs of material on the print. I thought it might be due to the temperature of the room--it is inside, but a bit chilly, but certainly above the 55 degrees recommended by the product label. I tried it on another canvas, a larger one, and after spraying for a short while, it sputtered again. The canvas, an inkjet photo, is ruined; you can see the glob markings on the canvas. I like the effect, semi-gloss, but I am reticent to order this product again.

I learned that you need to spray it long enough until it JUST gets a nice wet look, then stop. It works great.

So far, this seems to work OK. If you're careful, it coats OK and dries to a decent finish. Time will tell if it prevents fading. What I really want is a product that I can use in a spray gun. An air-brush or small sprayer would give a much more even coat. I have searched, but haven't found the product of my dreams. Also, why don't the makers of these products provide clear specifications with data about different types of UV absorption?

Like the varnish but these cans tend to clog easily. Make sure you've got Acetone or lacquer thinner on hand and soak the spray tip in a glass jar for about an hour should this happen.
