My daughter & I have always enjoyed a close & harmonious relationship. People would always tell me, "Just wait until the teen years" & I'd say in mind, "That will never happen to us" & I'd resist those words, because I'm a big believer in positive thoughts & the power of your words. But, the teen years have arrived & with it the things I've been told & heard & read about over the years. It's been one of the most difficult & emotional periods in my life. I felt lost & hurt, drowning in despair & confusion, with what happened to my little girl & our relationship. I didn't know how to handle it, how to restore the sweetness of our relationship, how to reach her. I came to Amazon to look for a book to help. After reading many descriptions & reviews, I felt drawn to this one & bought it.I feel like this book was written specifically for me. It's been a Godsend! Practically most of it is highlighted, that's how deeply & directly it speaks to my heart & our situation! It's been so comforting & a load off of my shoulders to realize we are far from the only ones walking through this because, to be honest, I felt like I was an island with nowhere to turn for advice, council, & encouragement. I feel like this book has brought me new hope & determination in our journey in raising a teen daughter & it's given me clarity, wisdom, insight, & taught me practical steps to living in a peaceful & harmonious relationship with my daughter.Thank you to the author for taking the time & effort to share her wisdom, experience, & research with us!

This book was written for my life with my teenage daughter. It is my saving grace for my sanity right now. I think I'll be rereading it continually until life gets better, or she moves out, whichever comes first.

Excellent book. We have a 16 year old daughter. She's a great kid, excellent student, an athlete, doesn't do drugs, etc. But she's now moody and questioning us and sassy, and it makes me feel I just don't know how to be a good mom anymore. this book has been wonderfully reassuring that she's just a very normal teenager and has given me helpful things to think about. And I love the emphasis on getting my own life in order so that I am happy and fulfilled. Highly recommended.

I have a thirteen year old and with her it's been drama 24/7. I guess some girls mature faster than others. Been thinking I was a bad mom, etc etc. The way the author explains that in addition to the raging hormones, the changes going on in the brain of a teenage girl makes her physiologically wired for drama. I was at my wits end with my girl before this book. 10 stars if possible!

When girls are young, moms share everything about their little one's accomplishments, developmental milestones, temper tantrums and more. When those same babies become teenagers, moms stop talking!! Why don't we share as much? Maybe it's because some of our girls' milestones feel embarrassing, rude or even scary to us. That leaves many mothers feeling like we are on an island - all alone.Colleen O'Grady let's us know that we are NOT alone. We are not bad mothers and we're not raising bad kids. We're just have teens whose brains are not completely developed. She teaches mothers to navigate teen tantrums and questionable decisions to create peaceful, loving mother-daughter relationships. The book is tremendously insightful and can be downright life-changing.

Best book I’ve read to help me with my teenage daughter. I grew up with 4 sisters so I thought I knew it all when it came to raising girls. Until I had one.haha. Easy to read and gets to the point and gave me a good perspective on why my daughter does what she does. I like that she gives lots of scenarios and examples. She also spends a good portion on mothers and how important it is to take care of ourselves. I’ve recommended this book to all my friends and I even had my husband read it since he grew up with all brothers. Boy did it open his eyes. I highly recommend this book, completing the worksheets that she gives the links to and listening to her podcasts.

I purchased this book and took notes like crazy! I wish I could purchase this in an audio version, I would listen to it nonstop! This book is the first book that broke everything down and helped me understand what is going on in my daughter's brain and how to parent accordingly. I have read lots of other parenting books and tried many different techniques, but it's like learning a new language. If I were to only communicate via texting, I would be fine. But when I try to apply the different principles, my words get jumbled up and we end up fighting again. Thanks to Dial Down the Drama, I am learning to being my daughter's dream maker, and seeing the importance of the long term perspective

Thank you Colleen , I love the book! It was an opening to a new way to see myself and the issues I was dealing with. I have a 16 year old adoptive daugther and is breen very difficult to find the way to help our very difficult relationship. I find out that I need to find myself and learn to parenting from a cup of blessings not from the overwhelme cup . I will recommended to everyone who needs help with our teenager daugther . It's a challenge; but this book help me find hopes and ways to enjoy her and make our relationship better. It takes work to keep our intentions clear but it's possible.Gloria

This book has changed my life!!! Sounds over the top but believe me everyone who has a teenage daughter should have this book on their shelf. It’s my go to before during and after “Dramas” it’s like someone has sat in my house and taken notes!!!

A brilliant guide for any mother of a teenage daughter. Down- to-earth approach and written by an expert in the field.

This book has some excellent recommendations to dealing with the girl teenage drama. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have some sort of positive experience while your daughter is struggling with everything. Very helpful to make the Moms not feel alone.
