Ugly Stik Elite Salmon/Steelhead Casting Fishing Rod

Fantastic baitcasting fishing rod ideal Length, weight and comfort for salmon and striped bass Plus, it has the backbone for big Fish. price is reasonable. If you know ugly stick do you know the durability behind its name?.

My husband loves these rods for fishing in the PNW for salmon and steelhead. We have bought them several times, and they work well. My husband is a longtime fisherman and knows his stuff and we replace old rods with these now. We have even bought these as a gift.

Been using Ugly Sticks for ever, good pole for large and smaller fish. They have good sensitivity, strong and gets the job done and can't beat the price very happy.

I purchased this just to try it out in our hawaiian waters. I've been a fan of the gx2 series and I have several uglystiks and custom rods to compare it to. First off it's an uglystik, the rod is 10'-6"MH and is on the soft side as most uglysitks are in my opinion. Being a salmon steelhead rod I thought it would be much stiffer, compared to my gx2 elite 9' it's much softer. Compared to a similar spec'd talon blank or even against an off the shelf rod like the Tica salmon steelhead it's really noodle like . But it casts well and with 3/4-1 oz lead I can really get some distance on it. It has a slow action and I swear it starts to bend from the reel seat up! So far I've pulled up several toau(black tail snapper) in the 3lb range with ease. I've also landed a few trevally in the 4-6lb range. I'm targeting mostly dinner fare in the 1-5lb range and in our hawaiian terms this is my whipping rod for most small game. Not too heavy, fit and finish was ok, on my rod there was flex coat dripped down the sides of the rod near the guides in a couple of places. Cork handle was nice, reel seat was ok and tight. I like the lenght(10'-6") for casting off of our cliffy areas and the rod brought most fish up 10-15' foot shoreline pretty well. I wish they made this in a spinning version and I believe I may rewrap this into a spinning rod to better suit my style. Again I like how the GX2 looks and feels, a little more backbone and a faster taper would make this my favorite cheap rod. I'm not afraid to lay this down on the rocks or loan it a friend. I still prefer the GX2 elite 9' XH over this but the added length is nice. It's currently paired with a shimano spheros 5000 and 15lb stren catfish mono. I like it, the rod does what I need it to do and for $69 you can't really complain too much about it, it's worth the money.

Toughness of an ugly stick - i use it for catfish at the dam, and saltwater surf and pier fishing. Feels good and works well.

Always been a fan of Ugly Stik. I used to get their Ugly Stik Lite series because I really prefer cork handles. Their Elite series is very similar, but the action seems to be a little better. The build and material quality on this rod make it feel like you are using one that costs $200-300. I bought the 9ft version, and it is perfect for trolling in a boat with multiple people. It allows you to get your line out further than others so as not to get tangled. The only downside to a rod this long is that it is more difficult to cast and harder to handle a fish when you get it to the boat. Not detractors for this specific rod, just general comments on longer rods.

The bottom cork broke first time out. I’ve emailed customer support three times and no answer!

Put my new rod to the test and landed a beast. My now favourite rod pairs well with a Calcutta 400b reel and 20lb braided line.

I payed for express shipping And received ONLY the Bottom half of the fishing rod. Furthermore it was not wrapped at all with anything so I’m very surprised the bottom half arrived in tact. I’m EXTREMELY dissatisfied, the fishing season is winding down and I’m afraid by the time I send it back and they ship me out another there may be very little time left for me to even use it this year. It’s be great if they could ship me out the TOP half of the rod (xheavy 9 foot 2 piece) as soon as humanly possible Edit: I found another rod that looked like it would be stronger and have ordered it instead. Although amazon was in the process of sending me another one I decided to just ask for a refund instead because based on the appearance of the butt end of the rod in comparing it with some of my other rods I have serious doubts it will cast the 3 oz lures it advertises.
