This is an excellent combo. I would highly recommend it.Fan Hood: Very sturdy with quality materials. Changing the bulbs is easy, just unscrew two wing nuts and remove the bracket. Slide out the glass roughly 8 inches and it's plenty of space to work while the glass is still secure in the hood. Couldn't be easier. Alternatively you could remove the ducting from one end and reach end. The cord is extra long which is niceBallast: Nice design, doesn't get hot. Has several mounting holes on both ends. The cord is nice and long making it easy to mount or position. The knob to switch from 50-75-100% seems like good quality. My only complaint is is doesn't have an on/off switch. Not a big deal, just make sure you turn on/off your surge protector vs. unplugging the cord.Ratchet Rope: Just your everyday ratchet rope. Works great, does what it's supposed to do. The clips aren't quite big enough to clip onto tent frames again this is a minor complaint.Timer: It's a light timer. It works. Only has one outlet, my other timer has 2 outlets, but...this one was free.Bulbs: Nice and bright, packaged well. The MH bulb blew out after about a month. It was on one day and off the next. I contacted the seller and they sent me a tracking number for a new bulb within an hour that arrived in 2 days. Excellent customer service.Overall I'm very pleased with the whole kit. Great quality, great performance and great customer service. I would buy this again.

Something we usually forget is that it's often more important from whom one buys than what is bought. This purchased certainly brought that caveat to the fore. I received my "order" in two days--this was an Amazon Prime purchase. This item was fulfilled by Amazon from product supplied by WholesaleDirect, who keeps an inventory with Amazon. Whatever is in the box identified as a particular product is shipped when that product is ordered. Apparently, one can buy just the fixture, which comes with four hangers, and that is what I received around 1800 one Thursday evening. I immediately contacted Amazon via online chat. They were more than willing to send me a return ticket, but I just wanted the missing parts--the ballast, two lamps, timer, and two yoyo hoists (these are nice). Amazon could only provide who sold the item (see above) and a gmail contact. Great, a gmail address! I immediately sent an email to the address and within five minutes I received a reply. I received the missing parts within 24 hours (I'm starting the clock at the next business day opening time). Remember, this was Thursday evening, meaning WholesaleDirect shipped the missing parts Next Day, Saturday delivery, at a cost to them of $144 for a $205 product--they lost money on this deal.I've been in business for myself for 26 years, and I know a lot about how businesses, large and small, operate--really their "character"--both from owning my own businesses and consulting with a great many mid-sized and small businesses. Precious few, virtually none, realize that, while you want to avoid mistakes--because they cost money--, when they happen, it's an opportunity to show what they "are made of". People going into business these days look at how much money they can make in the short term, by and large, although they won't admit it, mainly because they are unaware of their perspective. The ones that are successful in the long term know this. It takes patience, but it pays big. "Jeff" (anglicized Chinese name), who I assume owns WholesaleDirect, did the right thing where virtually none would have. To be sure, if I ever have need for another of these grow lights, which I probably will, it's WholesaleDirect that I'll buy it from.Oh, the light? I have it setup and it's working fine, and it is well made. So really this deserves ten stars--five for the product and five for the character of the company selling it, WholesaleDirect.

Really pleased with the package as a whole and the function. I decided on the hooded version for a few reasons (heat venting, ease of use, the light gets directed down...) but it should be said that these are not air tight and probably not suitable for a c02 setup (wasn't a concern of mine). Shipping was fast and the package was complete. I would recommend buying a different brand of replacement bulbs but I surely used the ones that came with this set first and upgraded when they began to dim which was a significant amount of time (4-6 months depending on how long you run them daily). All HID lights get hot I think the 600 watt light is cooler than the 1000 watt but I'm commenting on overall room temperature, heating and venting necessity. I'd like to be clear that you can burn yourself on this thing but you might need a heater to maintain 65 degrees especially during off time depending on your setup. To tell you the truth the only complaint I have is the ipower emblem on the ballast is upside down. I mounted my ballast on the wall and it bugs me enough to consider taking the emblem thingy off then I forget until I notice it again. Definitely a repeat customer after this purchase great deal compared to retail store prices, great value because it's a sturdy unit with everything you need to get started in one box. I definitely got my money's worth!

Light works great. Everything delivered with no damage. The only con is that the timer does not work reliably. It sometimes shuts off when it shouldn't. No biggie as I was planning on upgrading to a digital timer any way. This is a good starter set for my indoor garden. So far my plants are really loving this "indoor sun", very bright with HPS lamp installed. MH lamp works also, but not using it as I am using T5 HO setup for veg mode. Very pleased with the price point on this kit.
