This is a great book for those who are interested in the subject matter - the best clam shacks, fish shanties, seafood restaurants, etc. on the New England coast. I've personally eaten at three included eateries, one of them ever since I was a lad in 1966. These are the best.

I've been to many of the "clam shacks" described in this softcover book and it does a commendable job of identifying and describing the ones I return to again and again. They are some of the best of New England.

What a fun book! We decided to check out a couple of places in Rhode Island--Blount's and Evelyn's. The book was spot on--we had some of the most amazing chowders ever, and the whole belly clams at Evelyn's were a flat out mouthful of treasures. But besides just (!) being a great food guide, the back stories about the places and people who run them make them feel like visiting friends you never met. Read it and eat!

An amusing read, but hardly a complete compendium. Not that I was looking for that, but a little more of what was promised. The title DOES say ultimate guide and trip planner. I was expecting a larger number of shacks ...since there are so many of them in the NE. A rating of the items on the menu by customers would have been good too. Suggestions of scenic routes on the way up the coast, or nearby sights close to your shack of choice would be good. After all, it Did say trip planner. If you're expecting a specific guide, move on. If you want pictures and info like who owns it, who he bought it from, which one invented the fried clam, and the story of cousin Elmer, who got hit by a train cause he was too preoccupied with eating his clam roll too watch where he was going....well, you read the history, I'll eat the clams. Great clam shacks through out New England. If you are traveling in the New England areas, and love seafood ,you need this book!!

This book is colorful, very informative, and easy to use. I definitely recommend it for anyone looking to explore clam shacks and learn more about clam shack culture.
