Honeywell TL8230A1003 Electric Heat Digital 7 Day Programmable Thermostat

I bought three of these to update the classic turn dial ones for my condo's baseboard heaters. They were extremely easy to install and were working away in no time. They maintain the temperature extremely well and I love the fact that they adjust the output of the heaters in order to save money on the electric bill. The 7 day programmable with multiple phases for the day is great. For people ordering from Canada like myself, yes it does show Celsius by way of a switch on the back side of the faceplate. These are designed in Canada and are actually just the Aube brand after Honeywell bought out Aube. Just a quick wiring instruction for those replacing the old turn dials (since the manual is a little bare on it). When you remove the old turn dial it will most likely just be the black wires connected to it (1 goes to the electrical panel and 1 to the heater) and the white wires are sometimes just attached to each other. Remove the black wires from the old thermostat and untwist the white wires. Move the live wires to one side and the heaters pair to the other. Attach the hot white and black to the L1 red and black and attach the heater's white and black to the Load red and black. (Black wires to Black and Reds to Whites)

Got this to replace an old thermostat for some baseboard electric heating. Hooked up easily with the included instructions. The entire faceplate comes off for installation then snaps back in place when done. The LCD screen is legible in a lit room although some of the characters are a little small. Two doors, one on each side of the display, provide controls for setting up various program modes, time, temperature, etc. You can set individual days, 5- and 7-day programs, or several other pre-programmed modes. Temperature and time setup is easy. Also, when summer comes around, the left door controls includes an OFF button to kill any chance of the heater coming on during a chilly spring or summer night. I did think it was a little expensive, but there are not really a lot of programmable options out there for electric baseboard heaters and this one does do the job. Honeywell has the instructions for this device on their site so you can see if it'll do the job for you, too.

I recently purchased 2 of these to replace a couple of older thermostats that were probably the original ones from when my house was built in the 80s.They still worked but were off white/tan and I wanted plain white . They are exactly like the old ones look and functionality wise. I recently had a home energy audit done and wanted the piece of mind that the thermostats were up to par as well. I’m no electrician but these were very easy to install and program. Probably me 20 mins to both from start to finish.

I have a handful of these thermostats as I have the famed ceiling cable heat. These thermostats work great and are the relays are nearly silent. The display you will love as Honeywell did a very good job showing all pertinent information. You can quickly see the time, the actual temperature, the temperature mode the thermostat is operating in (Day or Night), and the time period at the bottom (Wake, Depart, Arrive,Sleep), along with a handy bar graph to show how much power is being applied to the heater. If you press the large button at the bottom it will turn on the backlight for low light or night viewing (and the green background makes the numbers easy to see). I only wish Honeywell would make each of the four program modes settable for temperature. Unfortunately, there are only two temperature settings corresponding to the Day or Night temperature modes. OK, three if you count vacation mode, but this mode is not programmable. Normally the Wake and Arrive modes are set to your higher Day temperature, then the Depart and Sleep modes to your lower Night temp. Honeywell calls the Day mode "Comfort" mode and the Night mode "Economy" mode. Anyhow, it comes down to four time periods but only two temperatures. This thermostat would be ideal if you could program each time period to a separate temperature. Maybe in the next future model... Side remark: If you are asking how to hook this up or what the red wire is for, you really should not be trying to do the installation yourself. Please save your house or possibly your life and hire a professional electrician.

I have had several Honeywell digital thermostats but this was my first digital line voltage thermostat (240v). Install was fairly easy though I am not an electrician. This thermostat replaced an old dial type used on baseboard heaters. I could not get control of the heater using the old dial type since it had no display and even the slightly turn of that dial yeilded a huge change in output to the heater. This new line voltage/digital and programmable thermostat did exactly what I needed it to do and more. Very pleased with it. The display is large and backlit when the button is pushed showing nice backlighted display. Programming is a little quirkie but once you spend some time with it you can figure it out but instructions are a little lacking. Stay, Away and Vacation mode. Comes with programmed settings that can be easily change. I purchased 2 of these now on separate purchases I like them so much. The relay click is hardly noticeable which is nice. No real take aways really. It is nice looking. Very accurate to 1 degree of temp which you can see easily now. These will save me lots of money and I know will make my house much more comfortable. I would highly recommend if you need a programmable digital line voltage thermostat.

This is a full feature thermostat made for line voltage applications. We have 240 volt baseboard heaters that operate off of thermostats in the 240 volt line between the main power panel and the heaters. Most thermostats operate off of low voltage but baseboard heaters usually have thermostats in the power line. This type of thermostat was not available in local hardware stores of electrical supply stores. I ws glad to find it on Amazon. The installation was easy—four wires from the thermostat attach to the four power wires in the junction box. I used a volt meter to make sure I was making the right connections, but it was not really needed because I wired it up exactly like the old thermostat. Programming is well explained in the instructions and wasn’t difficult. This thermostat is much better than my old one. It works silently and maintains very steady accurate temperature. It isn’t always turning on and off like my old thermostat.

My entire home is 240 volt baseboard heat. I have a thermostat in every room and one in the upstairs hallway (10 zones total) When I purchased the house The original thermostats from the 70's were still there! They were awful no longer accurate and eating electricity since the elements came on full blast whenever the heat kicked on. So far I have bought 5 of these Honeywell thermostats over the past 2 months and installed them in my kitchen, living room and all the upstairs bedrooms. It's nice to be able to program them and forget them. No running around the house trying to remember to turn thermostats on or off. And When they do come on, since the thermostat regulates the amount of power to the elements they don't always come on full blast especially if its just kicking on to maintain temperature. I cant see how this won't save me money in the long run! Eventually I plan on replacing the remaining 5 all with this model. I tossed the idea around of getting the non programmable models for the bathrooms and hallway but for a couple of bucks more you get more features. With the price of gas and oil going up I'm actually doing pretty well with electric heat especially now that I have these new thermostats. As for the unit itself It easy to install and program and looks very nice on the wall. If your skittish about replacing your old thermostat wire for wire then have an electrician do it. My wiring was very easy to figure out, but I can't guarantee yours will be.

I received my order of 5 Honeywell TL8230A1003 Electric Heat Thermostat Line Voltage Digital 7 day programmable thermostats one week after I placed the order. The units arrived well packaged, are solidly built and are much nicer and smaller than they appear onscreen. I had a licensed electrician install all 5 a week ago, replacing my 25-year-old units. The electrician had never seen this particular thermostat before, but because of the straightforward installation guide coupled with his experience, it only took about 20 minutes to install the first unit, and about 15 for each of the remaining 4. Within minutes I had them all programmed! The Honeywell TL8230A1003 Electric Heat Thermostat Line Voltage Digital 7 day programmable thermostats are incredibly easy to program, and have icons that correspond to different functions (i.e., comfort mode, night mode, away/vacation, manual, etc.). I consider myself to be very "tech-savvy" and don't like to read manuals if I don't have to. With this product, I was able to figure out how to use every function, with minimal time, and without having to study the instructions (which, by the way, is just a front-to-back insert). Further, because they are connected to the heating unit power supply, there are no batteries to change. The only down side to this is that in the event of a power outage, I believe all the programming will need to re-done. Still, it's a minor inconvenience. The most wonderful thing about these thermostats is the ability to program 4 different times for each day of the week. Though they come pre-programmed, re-programming is completely customizable. For example, for Monday and Tuesday, I can set the three downstairs units to come on at 5AM, go off just before I leave home, come on again an hour before I return and go off again an hour after I go to bed. I set the living room and dining room units to only come on in the evening. For Saturday, I program a totally different set of times, and on Sunday, yet another set of times. The thermostat also has an "On/Off" switch that allows me to turn them off if I don't want the timed setting(s) to come on, as well as a "manual" function that allows me to completely override the programmed setting and increase or decrease the desired temperature. The thermostat is also EXTREMELY QUIET when switching on and off in timed modes, and has a backlighting feature accessible by a long bar-type button on the face of the unit - perfect for checking temps in the dark. Each of the setting buttons is made of non-slip rubber so fingers won't accidentally slide off during programming. The buttons are small, though, and there is no backlighting for the buttons. The only caveat is to be careful not to press the "clear" button unless you actually WANT to clear a setting. This button is not in a separate area of the unit, and I inadvertently cleared one of the programmed times. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product. What a great feeling to wake up in the morning or come home in the evening to a warm home! And the cost savings as a result of being able to use heat only when and where I need it are sure to be another benefit. I'm so pleased with these new thermostats that I've recommended them to two of my neighbors/friends, and I expect that they will purchase new sets within the next couple of weeks!
