One of the most treasured Hollywood classics, and one of the most influential and iconic Westerns ever made, High Noon remains a powerful study of heroism, and the tension between the individual and the society around him. One of the best films by director Fred Zinnemann (From Here to Eternity) -- and produced by Stanley Kramer -- High Noon is riveting entertainment and an acknowledged American masterpiece, yet one with surprisingly tumultuous roots. In his Oscar-winning performance, Gary Cooper stars as small town Marshal Will Kane, preparing to retire and leave town with his young bride Amy (Grace Kelly). However, plans are derailed with the impending arrival of outlaw Frank and his brutal gang. Unfolding in real time, High Noon follows Will as he futilely tries to assemble a posse with the reluctant townspeople, who want Will to forget about a conflict -- as does Amy, a Quaker pacifist who just wants to avoid violence. But as high noon approaches, Will realises he must do the moral thing...with or without help. While the film has become a favourite of U.S. presidents from Eisenhower and Reagan to Clinton, its release was controversial: John Wayne (who had turned down the role) and Howard Hawks hated it, precisely because it was viewed as a thinly veiled allegory for the House Un-American Activities Committee hearings investigating communism at the time. Its politics make it even more intriguing now, but regardless, High Noon is one of the most important -- and gripping films -- of the 1950s Review: even more special features - had the Olive release but this one had even more and different special features so had to doble dip, was weeks early which is always nice Review: I think this is the best western ever made - I like spaghetti westerns more than most American cowboy movies. But I think High Noon is the best of all. I watch it often.

Disk is formatted for UK, not USA
High Noon is a classic and powerful film with great actors and I wanted a good copy of it. Bought this one, sounded good, Blu-Ray, queued it up and could not get past the notice that it was set for UK, not US or other formats. Dead in the water. Film gets 5-stars, this product might also in the right country but here in the USA, zero. Hopefully, I can return this after opening the sealed package.

One of the absolute best
To start this particular Blu ray is region B, so if you donโt have a region B or region free Blu ray player do not get it. I have one particularly for situations like this. It was cheaper than the US release, so I decided to save a few dollars. I can say the video and audio quality in this Blu ray is extremely good. As for the movie this is one of my favorite and one of the best. The tension builds throughout the entire movie and comes to a climatic shootout that doesnโt disappoint. Gary Cooper is very good as are the other actors. And let me just say Lee Van Cleef just looks the part, if Iโm not mistaken he doesnโt say a word in the entire movie but he enhances the movie just by his perfect presentation of an outlaw. The story is good and is pretty believable especially as people back out due to the โfutilityโ of the situation. The scenery is beautiful as always and this one as many old westerns knocked the atmosphere outta the park. Yet another that just seems natural and like watching the real thing without feeling like anyone is โactingโ they all seem to just be โbeing themselvesโ which is something modern actors just canโt do in my opinion, at least from a western movie perspective. Overall this is definitely one of the best westerns there is up there with the 1957 original 3:10 to Yuma, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Searchers, Stagecoach, and Red River.

A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do
'High Noon' is, in my humble opinion, one of the all-time classic westerns. The film had its critics, including Howard Hawks and John Wayne, who did not like the defeatist attitude of the townfolk at all. Apparently, they regarded it as 'very un-American.' Teaming up, they made their cinematic rebuttal in 'Rio Bravo', another excellent film, in 1959. Several other actors were offered the leading role in 'High Noon' before Gary Cooper was finally chosen. Now it's well-nigh impossible to imagine any other actor as Marshal Will Kane. The Masters of Cinema edition boasts excellent picture and sound quality. All in all, this is an excellent addition to my western collection.

Region B Europe!!! Unplayable on North America without region free player!
The movie is great and I was looking forward to seeing it again but it's region B Europe! No indication on the Amazon entry. I searched multiple releases of this movie to find one thar wasn't Region B and this one didn't specify. Can't play it without a region free player which I don't own. The product is excellent, shipping was great, just be aware of the region lock!
