There are several things that are great about this filter. You never have to open it. With a simple dial, hook up a hose with an 1 1/4" F to hose adapter, run a hose somewhere, and let your pond pump do the flushing of the pump and drain mucky water from your pond. The other easy thing about this is how easy it is to change the UV bulb. Again, there's nothing to open. Turn off the power to the bulb, twist off the section holding the bulb and it's out. No tools required. I think it would have been better deigned if the outputs were both on the same side. Having three points makes it difficult to sent up without large bends in hoses because of that. The bio balls that come with the filter do a good job at keeping the water clear, so long as the water is not too mucky. I use a skimmer just before this to catch debris such as leaves, grass and clumping algae. The bio balls can only do so much, but the upside of that is that you don't have to open the filter constantly to clean mechanical filters. The UV bulbs from non OEM manufacturers are reasonably priced. I found that they are good for around 3-4 months, depending on your on/off setting. You can choose between 6 hr, 12 hr and 24 hr UV cycle times. It's a good filter. Worth the purchase.

Plain and simple...these biological filters with bio balls just do not work. I've tried two different ones over the years, and neither worked as advertised, failing to do the job within a few short weeks. I've gone back to pressure filters from The Pond Guy, as they work as advertised; they require a bit more on-going maintenance and yearly filter and lamp replacement, not terribly costly, but do the job. Lesson learned, money wasted on anything else.

Open it up and it’s like use bigger/wider hoses use a special pump they sell use this and the other why not put that on the front page of it so I can decide to spend three hundred dollars on top of the 400 I just did.

Love it! Handles to secure were a bit difficult. However, it makes for a nice seal. Great product. Will buy for my other pond.

Cleared the pond algae in just a week

I had several different filters for my pond through the years. I thought I'll give this a try because cleaning the filters and media is starting to get a hassle for me. I'm 77 years old and cleaning the filter every week was getting too much for me. This was very easy to hook up, I have not buried it yet, but will in the spring and put a fake boulder over it. After hooking it up I watched the progress, not impressed, after 3 days there was not much change in the clearness of the water, it had been quite green and cloudy. But then one morning it was crystal clear I can see every people on the bottom of the pond. I turned the UV light into the 6 hours a day position fully expecting the water to get cloudy again. No, the water stayed crystal clear, I have not yet had to clean the filter, but backwashing it like a swimming pool should cut the job of cleaning the filter down quite a bit. No more slimy sponges that take forever to rinse out, no taking the filter apart. I'm very pleased with this purchase, definitely would purchase again. I will update this review if it becomes necessary.

After almost 8 months of use, I can honestly say, nothing cleans better than a sponge filter. This thing traps nothing. I can literally watch debris get sucked up and come right back out. Im in the process of removing all the balls so I can stick a sponge in there. My water is dark and murky. I really had hoped this would do the trick. The sad part is, my $80 Vivosun filter does better. When I want to clean my pond, I drag it out and hook it up. I thought being an Aquascape product would be better. Sponges are the way to go. For me at least.

Installed about 4 weeks ago. Performance so far has exceeded my expectations. I was skeptical the uv bulb wattage would be effective. It is, no algae anywhere. Filtration is good, water is crystal clean. Biomedia with venturi action does a good job at trapping debris. Backwash works well and is a great feature. Definitely reccomend

Después de 5 días de haberlo instalado vi los resultados que esperaba. Antes tenía agua verde y era difícil dar mantenimientos a mi antiguo filtro de agua. Con este sistema el agua es cristalina, elimina las algas del agua, sin embargo se siguen generando algas en paredes, piso y piedras. Para ello existe el IonGen de Aquascape. Yo lo ocupo 24/7 con la bomba de la misma marca. Hasta ahora vale mucho la pena la inversión. Mis Kois y tortugas están sanas y los veo perfectamente nadar ya que el agua está limpia todo el tiempo. El mantenimiento es de lo más fácil ya que no tienes que estar abriendo ni lavando esponjas o arenas. Únicamente das vuelta a una perilla y el agua sale a presión en forma de retrolavado.

This year chemicals and changing the water met with only short term success to keep the 800 gallon pond clear. After 10 days this filter has my water crystal clear. My only issue is that the back flush does not completely clean out the filter as well as i would expect.. i have a 1250 GPH pump pushing through the filter. maybe after more use i will find out that this a non issue. The unit was bigger than expected but i am very happy with its operation.

Fonctionne très bien mais il faut faire preuve d’un peu de patience. J’ai vu une amélioration dès les premiers jours mais insuffisante à mon goût. Il faut dire que l’eau était verte et contenait beaucoup d’algue. Le degré d’opacité était élevé. J’ai combiné le filtre à une pompe Aquaforce 1000 et après une semaine, la visibilité est à 1 mètre de profondeur.

Comes with cheap and useless hose connections that DO NOT FIT any standard hose or pipe from Canadian plumbing/irrigation supply stores for contractors. Will cost you an extra hundred to refit/upgrade unit prior to installation!! Overpriced for sub-par unit!
