I have to change out my filters as just washing them does not keep the fruit flies out.

I bought them because of the size. After a while, of course you need to replace it. Haven't tried another brand yet, so I am unable to compare. Overall I am satisfied.

No noticeable smell
Since purchasing these new filters, I don't notice a smell from my counter composter. I do keep the old filters in the lid which makes the filter thicker and blocks any spaces, so that also helps with smell and I don't get fruit flies.
